Yep, it's kind of the medical version of SETI. I'd join ECF's team, but I'm already on team BGG (Boardgamegeek) and we get virtual currency for folding there, which is the only way I currently have to fund my Eurogaming habit. (Over there, you can pay "geekgold" for used boardgames.)
I was on folding@home well before I found BGG of course... this kind of stuff is right in my wheelhouse.
Also out of Berkeley, there's
FoldIt but that's not automatic... in that one, they've figured out how to represent the proteins visually, and *you* fold them. The computer keeps track of what's physically possible and what's not, so it won't let you do anything that defies the laws of physics (or covalent bonds)... it's kind of like playing Tetris. I don't get on that one nearly as often as I'd like - just don't have the time these days - but they too have had some amazing breakthroughs.
