i was bullied by mean girls constantly from 4th grade to 9th grade. the lesser of two evils....home or school. what a choice.

:(

Point em out Kelli. I'll take care of them for you. :) Unless they can walk really fast, then I'm screwed.

Edit: Sure you can 'key' their cars & scream at them to get off your lawn, but who's gonna shake a cane at them to REALLY get the point across, hmm??

There was one mean one in jr. high that picked on me. Imagine my joy as an
adult finding out she lived in a trailer park and had 6 kids.......
Don't mean that as bad or as stereotypical as it is......

But then that child is 'just violent'. We can't have that now, can we? It's not appropriate for someone to defend themselves.

That's why the principles are important. Done correctly, a practitioner will learn that having the power to kick some .... doesn't always mean you use it. But knowing that you can makes a difference. It also builds emotional fortitude and character which changes the way a person carries his/her self which changes the way the world reacts to them. And, if worse comes to worst, the kid at the very least has the ability to evade physical confrontation. But really the magic is in how the practitioner presents themselves to the world. It's breaks the cycle from an angle that gives a bullied person the power and frees them from having to rely solely on an authority figure punishing the bully or protecting the kid from the bully.

EDIT: That said, I do believe that a kid should have the right to physically defend his/herself without being stigmatized by the school system. I just believe more strongly in the ability to change the way the world reacts you by strengthening yourself internally. Not to say that being bullied is ever the fault of the child, but it's going to feel that way for him or her.

(I was being sarcastic)

Even so, I wasn't commenting on the child - I was commenting on the soccer moms who have nothing better to complain about since they switched nail salons & the teachers & the system & ...

Martial arts are great for the kids. They're not great for today's school systems & their twisted views.

U know I will close with this; encourage kids to defend themselves. Even if once he closes his eyes and knocks the poop out of a bully and gets his .... kicked. He in the long run will have more confidence and will feel better about himself. It will make the bully think twice. Also think about when we were allowed to fight. Did we have these mass school shootings like we do.
Ya'll know the answer

I've certainly been picked on before. Faced rumors, etc. But I don't really consider it being bullied because it didn't make me feel weak as often as it did make me search for my voice. And unfortunately, girls that age are just plain mean. Boys have physical prowess and can usually just fight it out but females, lacking the physical prowess, honed the art of psychological warfare. It's almost Darwin-esque in nature. One of my best friends was one of those. Insecure and, to disguise that, a master of the backhanded compliment. It took me a long time so see that truth and even longer to forgive it. But we girls, seriously, we're nasty mean.

No I gotcha. And I didn't mean to sound critical or challenging. I actually agree with you. Kids who defend themselves often get dubbed violent because the dubbers don't see all the nasty that lead up to that moment.

FYI as soon as someone posts that they have a shop (which for the life of me can't figure out why that tidbit wasn't just kept under wraps) they shoot themselves in the foot, no way at that point to avoid falling under the unregistered supplier rule...

I'm not goin' to post a long explanation, that was just a part of my headache last night and I am just hopin' to avoid one tonight. I would have liked to share my vapeversary with my friends, but I'm leanin' towards loggin' off for the evenin' now....
