Hey guys, not really sure what section to put this up in so I'll stick it here for now :D I'm looking for some advice on a holiday present vape setup for a very special person.

So, my little brother Daniel is 24 and has Spinal Muscular Atrophy - a severe form of Muscular Dystrophy. Daniel is a huge success story for medicine, most kids with his disease don't live past their teens and he's doing absolutely fantastic still! My wife and I live in Texas and he's up in New Hampshire so we miss him (and my other brothers of course) like crazy.

The dumb kid is a smoker still though, buuuuuuut he's very interested in getting vaping and I want to try and get him set up for success off the bat and avoid some of the mistakes I made when I started vaping (buying poorly made, overly expensive EGO crap and cigalikes for instance) since I know he's got a very limited budget. Now he's got some issues with hand and arm strength, he can't continually hold anything right in front of himself (he can't even fully smoke a cigarette on his own) so I want to try and find him something fairly light and with a light action on the button if possible. I don't have a ton of experience with vape gear (I've only been doing it for about 6 months now on my own limited budget lol) so I'm hoping for a little input from the vets and people who have used more equipment than I have!

I'd like to keep the entire setup under $100 if possible.... I'm planning to get him some primo vapetree juice to go with his present so any extra money in the budget will go to that! I may be able to squeeze some more from our parents but they'll need to be edumacated on the benefits of vaping first I think. They think he should just not smoke, period end of sentence, which I agree with but it's his choice and he really would like to vape as an alternative.

He's tried vaping a couple of times and tells me that his favorite vape so far has been his friends RDA and I know he's not going to want/be able to sit there all day and drip so I'm really thinking an Aspire Atlantis, any thoughts? Any ideas on a decent mod for it? I've been trying to track down the Aspire subohm battery kit, just for ease of use (easy to charge, no settings to mess with) and because they're made to fit the Atlantis. However I haven't really heard anything yet about the reliability on those, I've never used one so I don't know how hard the button throw is, and I can't seem to find them in stock anywhere at the moment!

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated! Sorry about the small novel. If this is a question that has already been answered let me know! I tried some ECF searches but wasn't really sure what to search for :p

I think you are on the right path, either the Aspire or Kanger sub-ohm atty would be a good choice. The mod is where you're problem will lie, most have stiff firing buttons and or are heavy. Also, you might be better off getting a mod with a built in battery opposed to the swappable types so that difficulty accessing the battery isn't a problem. None of the gear I use would be a good choice, hopefully others will chime in with better guidance. I wish you the best of luck.

That's what I'm thinking. I know he doesn't have the dexterity to build his own coils and unfortunately I'm a bit far away to be building em for him. So, replaceable coil is definitely gonna be the way to go.

Edit: replaceable batteries are definitely nice I'm only wary about them because they usually wind up weighing more than the built in battery mods at least from my experience.
What was it about the RDA that your brother liked? Was it the clouds, the warm vape, etc?

He liked the intensity of the flavor and that he was able to get a really nice hit without having to draw too hard (again, Atlantis fully open seems perfect from what I've tried)
Haven't used this place but they have a good price right now. Aspire Atlantis Tank - V Smokers Found it through this site. NEW ASPIRE Atlantis Tank & CF Sub-ohm Battery & CF Mod Battery | ASPIRE USA so you'd think they'd stand behind vendors they recommend.
Yeah I checked there they've got the full kit listed, which is what I'd like to get him personally, but when you click on it its showing out of stock.

I have never used an Atlantic but I have used a Nautilus with the new BVC's. I use mine on an iStick which is very small and does not require any strength to push the button. The iStick will not fire anything below 1 ohm.

I too have issues with strength, flexability and fine-tune dexterity in my fingers/hands/arms.

That's what I figured, I only use RBA's these days but rebuilding isn't for everyone. The Newer low ohm coil heads provide a great vape and convenience albeit they are quite expensive. If using/swapping/charging 18650 batteries wouldn't be a problem for him that's certainly the way I would go. If you're searching for a regulated mod perhaps a box style with magnetic battery cover would be a good choice, tool free and easy opening.

I went by my favorite b&m earlier and checked out the aspire subohm battery. I think that's the way I'm going to go for his starter setup. The button on it is really easy and I don't think he'll have any issues with it. I'm sure he'll be wanting an upgrade from that at some point but for getting started I think he'll be in good shape with the aspire batt for a little while

Thanks susan! My brother and I are far to similar in most things, I can just about guarantee a nautilus, while its a nice tank, just wouldn't scratch the itch for him haha.

Something you may not have considered (for the future). My local B&M makes coils for their customers for free (installs them, wicks them, and fills the tank too).

I can usually manage to do my own single coils one handed but dual coils are much more difficult for me. About once a month I take in all my dual coil rebuildables (10+) and they work their magic to whatever spec I want. I usually go during the day, when they are not as busy and I try all the new juice they have recently started carrying.

End up picking up juice, some spare stock coils and I'm good for another month (or two).:)

I have spinal cord damage that causes some of the same issues, and I love the combination of the Innokin VV v3 and Anyvape Davide. It isn't in the sub ohm category, but the Davide has an easy draw. The VV v3 is light, the square shape makes it easy to hold onto, and the fire button is easy. You can use any topper on it, but it won't sub ohm. It also has a short life between charges, but can be used as a pass through, and is cheap enough to get more than one.

Okay, I take that last bit a little too far.

Sorry, been working all weekend and have not been around a computer! I think he may eventually get into rebuildables but I'll let him make that decision for himself once he's had a chance to really try things out. Big thing I love about the atlantis is the simplicity. Though I am going to be keeping my eyes on reviews of the Kanger Subohm, I think that's going to be a pretty cool tank setup.

Bear in mind that the Aspire SubΩ battery is recharged the same way as a regular ego battery. i.e you screw the charger (which isn't supplied) onto the 510/ego connection. So he wouldn't be able to use it during this time.

Oh yeah, in a way that's a plus. He's pretty reliant on a personal care attendant to help him out with things so the simpler the setup is to charge (i.e. nothing needs to be taken apart or replaced to charge it) the better. Trying to get him set up with a backup battery too so he can always have one going.

So I went by the local B&M the other day and held the sub-ohm battery - I've gotta say, with the carbon fiber build it is extremely light compared to other batteries/mods in the same range and it has a comfortable size to it. I know Daniel has issues with gripping smaller objects but the subohm battery should be a perfect diameter for him to kind of palm it and be able to reach the button.

How is the performance on the Davide? I may suggest that type of setup to him as a backup, I still love my kanger pt3 as an all day workhorse when I can't sit and drip.

A lanyard to hold the Aspire Atlantis/subohm mod combo should reduce the effort needed to use a large enough mod that will produce the type of vape your brother seems to want.

I'm sure there are others but I turned up these with a quick Google.

Good call! I didn't even think about that. The whole family is pitching in to get his kit so I think Daniel is going to be very happy :D We're gonna get him a bunch of vapetree juice too! Everyone in the family (including him) wants him to quit smoking :D
