Hard rock guitarist here. Although I started on piano as a child, and also play bass n drums I consider myself mostly a guitarist. Have a home studio where I can record and play every instrument. Usually start off with a drum groove and put down some bass and jam over it.

Used to gig in my late teens early 20's as lead guitar around LA but that was a long time ago. Played a lot at Jezebels in Anaheim and the troubadour in hollywood plus all kinds of misc venues like high schools during the lunch hour.

Nowadays concentrate mostly on singing songwriting and playing acoustic but every once in a while like to crank up the amp and jam some judas priest, iron maiden, or some carlos santana. Never crystalized as a career choice but lately has fallen off as more of a hobby.

Keep playing the music. We should put up some recorded music links.

These are cuts from a studio demo my group recorded in the 80s.

hanging around
I have been playing for 35 years give or take. Mostly I like to play 70's rock but I learn new stuff every once in awhile just to try and keep up. Well a lot of what I call knew isn't even new anymore. Stone Temple Pilots are fun to play on guitar lot's of interesting stuff going on there. System of a Down is fun on guitar too. I know darn near everything Black Sabbath ever put out. Cream and Hendrix will always be two of my favorites. Deep Purple and Uriah Heep are fun. I like playing Floyd on the Acoustic and well just about anything by John Prine. I could go on and on and on.

Strictly as a hobby, in my life I haven't played more than a dozen paying gigs. Tons of parties and stuff like that though. I'm in three garage bands. Just with my buddies who I get out and jam with once a week or so. Acoustic around the campfire and that kind of thing. I have a decent voice and a good memory so that helps a lot.

None of my equipment is anything special but it works and I have my knobs all set. I run a metal zone and a dunlop cry baby that I have had around for a very long time. I play a peavey strat that cost me something like $100 used 25 years ago I had it re-fretted once already and it will need it again before long.

Lot's of fun that's for sure.

hola amigos... I have been so busy music wise been crazy. I did some gigs with other bands and I was working with a shania twain look alike (my old lady was getting super jealous lol)... I was getting frustrated with all the musicians I was working with... I went and did a bunch of solo open mic things and got invited to a pub jam at Harrison hot springs... now I play with that band every weekend (they introduced me as their newest member last song of the night)

amazing musicians. I have jammed with some fairly big name artists and didn't even know it. We are the opening act for a festival sept 1 weekend. The drummer from Paul Rogers has his band going on 3rd. Pretty cool. I play a lot of instruments but everyone wants to hear mandolin... already getting tired of copperhead road LOL

we finished last sunday with a song I wrote. I just called out the chords and started the song on mando, then pulled out my harmonica... they didn't know I play harmonica...

I will have some brand new songs to put up here in a week or so.... really excited with how they are sounding so far....really hard rocking stuff.
Ive also just joined a TV show here in Australia called "The Hard Rock Show" as an album reviewer! So i'll be getting my ugly mug on TV. All the episodes will be up on YouTube as well, starting 2nd week in September I think. I'll put the links up as they go to air if any Hard Rock / Metal heads in here are interested :toast:

Pipeous, your links are showing up as "content unavailable". FWIW

Nice collection of guitars and mandolins, though.

BTW, this is a cut from my cousin's CD that he recorded after winning the Guitar Player magazine slide competition back in 1995. His brother (on the left) is singing and playing keyboards. Tim (on the right) is playing straight guitar.

Awesome!!! How are you making out on it? Looks fun to make noise on.

I looked at the pictures Pipeous posted and it looks to me that you pluck one side and press on the other to get bends and vibrato. I keep thinking Sitar sounds without all the sustain ...

Pretty cool. I went wireless about 7 years ago because I wanted to be able to move around a stage without worrying about cables. It would be hard to play something that I had to stand in one place and play. Heck, if people can wear keyboards, I guess that could be converted. :)

Here's a cool way of playing and something we recognize
Voodoo Chile-Jimi Hendrix / Gayageum ver. by Luna - YouTube

I played a whole night solo last night. 3 sets acoustic. paying gig. I am hurting bad today

here's one
copperhead road - YouTube

Good video, Pipeous. The rhythm guitar player from my old band is still gigging and doing a single with recorded backup tracks. He posts where he's going to be on Facebook and he has a following crowd. If you have the energy to to do it it's enjoyable. For me, after gigging and holding down a full time job for so long, it's nice to have a walk-in gig once a week where everything stays set up all the time.

I am doing more but no more whole night acoustic. I am joining 2 others for a gig, am opening for a trio and running an open acoustic night (where I carry the night and have different players step in and play 3 or 4 songs). that is this month, plus sundays I do the bar jam.

today I am playing bass with an old guitar bud and we are doing rock n roll hoochie coo, go for a soda, swingtown and simple man. just found out the house band bass player might not make it, so I might have to step in. so much for mandolin

after this week I go to 3 days on 4 off for work. primo schedule (sun to tues). I have places I can play wed to saturday locally so maybe my fingers can take more. no more fender acoustic though. my right forearm was worn raw lol... sweat and I am so use to clamping my right arm down on mandolin it is a habit even with guitar... the new godin gets some work next outing. I will save the fender for practice and taking in the car to work... I have more videos uploading. I honestly thought it was ok but I made my share of mistakes. the owners loved it so maybe I am my own worst critic. the person booking contacted me today for 2 more gigs there so...

I suppose that a good single performer can make much more money than splitting the take with a band. Bar owners are paying for entertainment that boosts sales. If you entertain them sufficiently, you get good bucks whether you are a single or a group. MP3 backup tracks and a good small PA can create a full service sound. There are several single acts around my town that sound like good tight groups when you close your eyes.

Turned out I was the main singer yesterday and did a ton. hell sang 3 zep tunes (haven't tried that since the 80"s lol). 3 young guys played and asked if I would sing for them. my face was purple doing rock n roll haha. I tried to take a break after that and got dragged up to sing and play bass... still was a lot of fun

I made as much in my early days playing weekends in a 5 piece band as I did on my 40 hour a week day job (and it was a high wage job). Music financed lots of toys during those days and always provided an above average income when combined with a day job.

It's great having a part time job that you love that pays great money.
