It's amazing what can be accomplished with digital editing these days. Entire compositions arise from loops, effects, and modifications of natural sounds to produce ethereal and unrecognizable results. Stretch, compress, EQ, and modify sounds and they change into entirely different clips.
When I was an undergrad, I did some writing for a percussion ensemble. They'd scour junkyards for things with unique timbres, like brake drums and stuff. They were a fun and open-minded group.

I remember the lengths we'd go to in the analog days to get unique sounds and timbres. With the modern software, there's really no limit to what can be done. This is something of a golden age.

...which makes it all the more embarrassing that the majority of it is dubstep WUBWUBWMMRNNthumpthumpthump.

Still, there are some electronic artists (Autechre spring to mind) who are pushing boundaries in neat ways.

This guy has it going on.

A couple Uke vids from this last saturdays gig. I started the night on the Uke to play some quiet music for dinner guests and graduated to other instruments and such later as the night went on... I played for 4 hrs so yes I had some music cheat sheets. My brain just can't retain that many words anymore haha

I actually started a half hour early and played a half hour late... I had to dig into stuff I hadn't played much and I wanted to play different instruments than I normally play to change things up... and yes I was using a vocal harmonizer... a comment from someone during the song early nearly made me burst into laughter LOL. funny the camera didn't pick up his comment..

Well the solo stuff is just different. can't do much for lead solos as they just sound thin by themselves to me... so I have to sing way more songs... it is certainly a mental workout as my brain really has trouble retaining all the song lyrics. I can't do the band songs I did as they are kind of heavy for this kinda deal... if I was smart I would just play more mandolin sings but hey, smart is the key word LOL

I love refinishing. it took a long time to scrape away that finish. it was about 1/8" thick and hard as a rock. the more I play it the more the sound will open up but it already sounds much better. it had a great chop chord and was bright before but the lower tones did definately improve... for loss of a better word, it sounds more woody now... and it looks very nice beside that archtop. stain just hides imperfections... I didn't even know the binding had a second thin black line until I removed the finish

I will get more videos up eventually. my camera is hd and it takes about 4 hrs per vid to get on youtube. if not longer... so for now I am rehearsing the uke stuff and trying things to memorize the lyrics... eventually I will get there... I have another gig next month at the place I joined with other artists but am doing all solo now for the most part. I got a bit frustrated when people don't want to learn the songs and start asking me to sing stuff they know instead... at the gig not beforehand...

I did an acoustic version of I'm a creep on octave mandolin that really went over well...

I had a local guitarist come over for a practice yesterday. wanted to join me on a gig. I asked him to pick 10 songs he can sing (I have to do the instrument solos, so I figure we might as well split up lead vocals since that is his main area).... he couldn't list 10 songs he knew the words to LOL. I did 53 songs that night so yes I had cheap sheets for some haha

I just booked another solo show for July 26th, and figuring a date in August. I also have been talking to a couple bands about doing some work with them. I sure get busy this time of year for music... well for me anyway. a couple full gigs a month and some supporting stuff.

Some Gillian Welch anyone?

I wasn't a musician, but I used to play drums before my back gave out on me. I had a set of black Tama's with a 18x18 floor tom that I special ordered. I miss playing. My favorite bands to play were: Pantera, Megadeth, & Mudvayne. I don't like some of the lyrics to Metal songs, but I love the music and it is really fun to play!

I have another solo gig this weekend, though I just invited a bass player to join me.... with a bass player I get to do lead solos and have to play less songs.....

I joined a new band recently. I am playing guitar (lead and rhythm), midi guitar for keyboard stuff, mandolin, harmonica... seems I am taking over most of the lead vocals though 3 out of 4 of us sing lead... I jammed with them one night and been in the band since. I still use my vocal harmonizer a lot in this group... I must be from a different era because I always have to work so hard with most musicians I play with to teach them harmony parts...

I dont play in a band but I like to play in my leisure time. Mostly just play old classic rock stuff in my room right after work for an hour or two. Recently got my "dream" guitar, a Martin D28. Might also pick up an old strat sometime next year.

I was going to learn to play the guitar one time and bought a $1000 Jackson with a rosewood fret board and shark tooth inlays. As I was learning, I would look at my drums through the corner of my eye... I went back to Guitar Center and traded it in for a bunch of gear to improve my drum set. lol Playing drums was just in my blood and was what I loved to do!:)
