the concept is the same as a mandolin. I used painter's tape and taped sandpaper to the surface where the bridge sits then sanded the bridge bottom on that. it keeps the shape of the instrument so it mates well

Nice collection. You need to add one of them Gilchrist mandolins to the stable. Nice and cheap.

I have a nice Epi F with a Fishman bridge and it's all I need. Of course, I can't play a single full song on mandolin and haven't touched it in over a year, but it is pretty to look at!

My Godin mandolin is hanging on the triple stand on the floor... I have a guitar body octave mandolin being custom built and he is going to make me an electric om after. I will likely get him to build me a mandolin next year as well... 7 of those instruments are Canadian or USA made. I like to support local as much as I can

tough part for me is lack of room now. I think I have to clean the shop once a week. my gigging stuff is behind the drums, pa's, amps, speaker stands, mic stands, amps. at least I got all the cases back up on the shelves after this pic hehe.

I've been working on the Epi 339. I got the action and intonation pretty good. The G string I can't adjust anymore. I added the GK1 midi pickup and had to adjust it. My Strat has a built in midi pickup but it has issues... It doesn't track as good as the GK1 (it has the GK3) and the guitar out signal I have to plug a cable into the guitar or level is way too low... the GK1 setup has a very balanced output. I want to eventually get rid of the strat and get a Godin
the xtsa has some really cool features and it tracks midi amazingly fast

I get the mechanics of the bridge work... and the shaping to match the body has already been done. What I need to do is take a few mm off between the top piece legs and the thumb screws so it has more adjustment room. My issue is removing the bridge will allow the sound post to fall away. I guess I should just buy a setting tool ($35 from Gollihur) and get over myself... but everyone you ask about big bass stuff will knee jerk a 'take it to a Luthier' at you.

Godin makes some nice stuff, I really want to get myself a mid 90s Seagull S6 I fell in love with one back in the 90s and never got around to buying one. My 70s Yamaha acoustic plays nice, but sounds horrible.

you could cheat and deepen the string slots and remove a bit from the top (those slots look a bit too deep anyway). I made my own slotting tool with feeler guages. Just took a triangle file and cut teeth in all of them to make a saw of sorts... then just combine the gauges to the desired thickness of the slot.

I bought a one piece bridge from Gold Tone for my octave mandolin (the original had a slot cut out for the under saddle piezo I removed. I have since filled the hole/slot but I do notice it isn't as solid as it should be). it didn't mate the top at all and by the time I got it sanded down to match it was too low. so I had to cut an old broken bridge up and glue pieces to the bottom. I still have to finish sanding that one... my mandola has a one piece bridge...I think the one piece transfers the sound better but you have zero adjustment. trade offs I guess. I had never worked on these instruments but I grabbed an ebook from a guy on mandolincafe'... I did my first setup on an epiphone mandolin. it turned out good so now I do all my own work aside from fret stuff. That goes to my luthier... fret files and such cost so much money

good eye, I recently switched from a thicker set of mediums to a thinner set of light gauge strings. They sit fine and aren't bound up in any way... so it should work out. I've often thought that the adjusters must take away from the tone. Maybe I'll pick up a non-adjusting bridge.

I definitely need to check out Bandhub. Just in from a great gig, but we add maybe a new song every few weeks. Seems like a good way to keep pulling out the bass to learn new stuff!

ya man, I am having a blast on bandhub... I did 2 drum tracks today, some rhythm and lead guitar (played both guitars), some bass, some backing vocals....

this was the first one I joined in. I recorded my acoustic guitar with just a webcam... then I figured how to plug my guitar pedal in with the usb (though I couldn't hear it so had to also go into an amp)... then I went and bought cables so now I can plug anything in

I was looking at the pro version of bandhub. $80 a year and you can mix, pan, add fx and such. tempted to do it. sure would be cool to have people from anywhere record on my cd... can download the audio once it's finished publishing too... really digging this site. Dave we talked about recording together before. This would be a great way to start... all ecf musician recording. come on guys let's do this.

my biggest issue is my webcam is old crap. I have to remember to unplug it when I reboot or I get the blue screen

I think a good soundcard is vital, or a usb connection... tonight I was working on a song and the playing and sound I heard was off. I have a zoom gr1 pedal that is usb and I can edit the amps and such on screen. with that it is bang on. rather frustrating at times...

I still have to try the zoom r24 direct in via usb... if that works then I will run everything through the board instead. it just seems some nights there is lag some nights not. still fun.. I am getting lots of playtime with thew new Epiphone... I found 3 high frets up around 15-17 and tapped them down (experimenting with a lead... I am not a lead guitarist, that's for sure)

I'd like to try, but need some clear instruction on what's needed and how to set it up and get into the jam.

The desktop computer I built a couple of years ago is still considered relatively fast by today's standards. AMD 8320 CPU, Radeon 7870 GPU, 16GB ram.

Do I need MIDI to connect to the site?

I started up with Band Hub after reading this. I am running my bass into my iPad with an small Apogee interface. I have a Zoom B3 bass effect pedal and I have been thinking about trying to use it to get a better bass sound. I have only played one song so far. Thanks for posting this as I have been looking for an outlet for playing my basses. Gets kind of boring playing along with youtube.....

you do need a webcam of some sort. I am using an old logitech about 15 yrs old lol. you need a way to go into the line in of the soundcard, or a usb connection. I picked up some 1/8" stereo and some 1/4 to 1/8" stereo leads to connect stuff to the soundcard..

sometimes you get lag. I just reboot the computer and try again and it seems to solve the issue. a multi fx pedal in seems fine. then just set you recording device in soundcard options. took me a while of experimenting to find ways that worked but now it's easy... if you use a mic you need headphones. pedal in you don't

I really need to get back into it. I played in several bands between my sophomore years of high school and college. Never really had a chance to go anywhere with them but we had fun. I played anything from lead guitar to bass to keyboards.

Took recording engineering classes in college. Couldn't afford to keep going but I had retained enough information to do some fairly decent home recordings in my free time. I just used a MacBook Pro and Logic. Tracked bass, drums and keys digitally, tracked guitars by running my Line 6 amp into my laptops input and tracked vocals with a Rock Band usb mic. Definitely not studio quality but I had so much fun. I've got a few songs posted here. Like I said, they're not great but I had fun with them.

But, I let a girl throw it all away. I'll never let that happen again. My wife now would actually support me if I started playing and recording again. But I'm no longer a 19 year old kid living at home working at McDonald's. But if I ever find the time and money to get some good equipment back, I'll definitely start recording again.

Just got a set of Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 Pro Slash signature pickups to put in my $350 Gibson SG. The Stock Gibson neck pickup and Seymour Duncan JB bridge pickup are going in to a cheap Silvertone that I picked up cheap for a bar beater. That will give me three stage guitars.

I did a rough recording of a new song yesterday. I got some video editing software and a new mastering program. I spent yesterday reading. Found out neither my camera nor phone supplied a useable format. Long story short, 3 different programs to convert, chop and build the video. I wanted to experiment with some fx... I will properly record this one this week (I had never even tried to sing a harmony with it yet.. so yes it's off a bit) but I think the video turned out pretty good. At least now I know how to build one once I get good videos to work with

Just come across this an thought i Would write a bit about my musical background. I am twenty five years old and i discovered guitar at the age of a really young age of just eight years old. I got more serious when i started writing my own songs at just eleven years old, some of my music could probably be classed as a little odd. I am hugely inspired by grunge music and i do gigs at least twice a week. I do my own songs as well as covering songs that friends ask me to do. Recently i have started teaching people guitar, i do not charge money for this, i really enjoy it.
I also dont mind in the slightest weather i get paid for gigs or do not. It is more of a hobby an also huge coping mechanism. I used to be really heavy on heroïne and speed an music was a huge part of keeping me clean. Of anyone Would like to hear my music of will soon be on soundcloud an i am more than happy to hear anyone elses.
