I've had my run-in with counterfeit Aw's (read Volcano and the Lavatube), but the tip of the nipple is what gave those particular ones away, and the ones in the pic seem to be consistent with Aw's. I'm sure the OP used a reputable vendor to purchase the batteries from, especially after enduring the venting battery issue in the past.
I would like to know if the black charring was just from the foam in the Lavatube case melting to the battery when it vented, did any surrounding objects in the purse melt/burn/etc as well? I'd like to know the status of surrounding objects in the purse.
This is why I bought 5 plastic battery cases when I bought my ProVari's so I could safely transport spare batteries to work with me. I also throw out all batteries after 6 months of use, I cycle three in rotations that each get 1 charge a week, and use the same XTar WP2 as the OP and charge on the low setting to ensure a proper charge. They always meter at 4.19 coming off, and I check them religiously. Fortunately, nothing has happened to myself or friends as of yet, and I push the same precautionary measures on them that I use myself for this reason specifically.
Glad you're ok!
