Littelollady you have inspired me to deliver my own rant! Albeit yours was so well written and entertaining that I would hardly categorize it as a rant. Mine, I am certain, will not be nearly as good as yours was, yet I persist.
Non-Smokers, Anti-Smokers and Vapers
Incidentally, please consider all that follows to be IMBO (In My Baseless Opinion)
There are people that have never smoked or used to smoke and quit that fall into the category of what I would call a Non-Smoker. The Non-Smoker meet the following criteria for me:
1. They don’t smoke
2. They don’t really care if you do.
a. They won’t recommend it but they don’t act like you just urinated on their leg if you light one up in the room they are in.
b. Sometimes smoke bothers these folks, sometimes it doesn’t.
c. If they are allergic to smoke it because they always have been and they never smoked
i. Some people really do develop an allergy to smoke after they quit. Seriously I have seen it. Might be psychosomatic..
3. They don’t get self-righteous about it
4. They don’t throw all sense of social grace out the window when they encounter smoker
5. They don’t hate smokers
6. Will generally support vaping
7. Don’t throw around the word disgusting
a. Most don’t think that smoking is disgusting (it really isn’t its just a burning stick)
i. They just know it is bad for you.
1. It is
8. To me these people are the ones that don’t or quit sans the social conditioning.
9. I think VERY highly of these fine folks, and hope to somewhat join their ranks soon.
The anti-smoker is a different animal
1. They don’t smoke
2. They don’t want you to smoke
a. Or more they want to subgroup you to their will
i. And the current PC world has given them a excuse
1. If racism was PC they would be the most racist people on earth
3. They don’t want to see smoke or anything that reminds them of smoke
a. They will claim the “smoke” is killing them when you tape around them
i. Which is funny when you tell them there is not any.
b. They are conditioned like pavlos dogs, they see smoke they start a faux cough.
i. See point 3a.
1. They will cough from across the street.
4. They think that the fact that you smoke gives them the right to
a. Sneer
b. Make comments “disgusting”
i. Or worse.
1. I almost got in a fight with one of these fellows one time..save that story for another day..
c. Forget the basic respect that one human should have for another
5. They think that not smoking is a statement of intellect
a. They believe they are smarter than you because they don’t smoke
i. They revel in their sense of self-superiority
6. Will not generally support vaping
a. Still disgusting
i. Don’t even want to hold an e-cig..disgust
7. Use the word disgusting a lot
a. I wish someone would really crap in their shoe so they could figure what disgusting really is.
8. I despise these self-righteous, overly conditioned, PC lapdogs.
Vapesters
1. Most used to smoke
2. Some combine smoking and vaping
3. Generally fall into the non-smoking group when they totally quit smoking
a. At risk of becoming anti-smokers
i. That is a great sadness to me , how can people be so pathetic.
ii. I want to tell them that anti-smokers hate them as well
1. Because anti-smokers are looking for an excuse to feel superior to anyone
2. Because it looks like smoke.
iii. I want to tell them to very quickly get over themselves.
b. Have not seen that here, but did see someone that appeared to be flirting with the notion, did not call em out..it’s a waste of time.

Well that my rant! Hope you liked it.

The 3 classifications you have are really boiled down to 1 classification I like to think of as "ill adjusted". I think people that are ill adjusted are the ones that want to control other peoples lives because they haven't got control of their own.

I hate to boil it down to something so simple but that is just my opinion.

I have been surprised at the most resistance I have seen around e-cig use, is not from Non-Smokers, is not even from rabid Anti-smokers, but from current smokers.

I have seen a touch of this as well. Pretty much what I got out of it was 2 things.
A lot of smokers are deeply ashamed of their habit and want to share that shame, I don't say that to be mean.
They want to mitigate their habit by being uber courteous of non-smokers and anti-smokers they feel that you should show the same courtesy cause it looks like your smoking (not an entirely invalid point, it is easier than trying to educate the world and the anti-smokers don't care that its not smoke anyway..really they don't) I still smoke a bit so I can understand this.. I am an extremely courteous smoker.. I don't try to sneak one, I try to stand downwind, all that stuff.

I agree, I would say over conditioned. Keep in mind that for the most part people are sheep. I have been accused of being cynical before (grin).

Totally agree with your rant! I just wish antismokers had an inkling of an idea how hard it is to get off of stink sticks after you're hooked. Yea, I know it was my own dumb fault for starting, but when I started I was addicted to other...not-so-legal things. Those things were much easier to give up than cigs. So, basically when the naysayers would bug me about smoking, it made me want to smoke more. People that cough from across the street make me want to slap them with bacon...just for good measure!

What I really like to say is this, if applicable, yeah I smoke..yep disgusting..some people think obesity is disgusting as well..how is that weight loss going for ya?

Don't get to say that often however. Its just plain ol mean.

What I have gotten to say more frequently (when vaping) is ..
me "What are your coughing for?"
them "The smoke..idiot"
me "No smoke in this Spock!" I prodeed to take my ego aapart "no tobacco"
me "do you still feel smart?"
them "ugh well it looks like smoke"
me "So when you see smoke or what you think is smoke you cough..hmm..reminds me of an experiment with a red light and dogs"
... and so on (grin).

James sir you forgot the one other sub group of anti-smokers, the self rigtheous ex-smokers who never took up vaping and are against it just as much as they are cigarettes....

True that.. and many of them will even tell you that the most robust anti-smoker is one that quit..probally cause they want a smoke (grin).

I have heard, although I can not say from personal experience, that quitting smoking is harder than stopping hard drugs ........ I believe it.

I agree, I would say over conditioned. Keep in mind that for the most part people are sheep. I have been accused of being cynical before (grin).

What really gripes me about this whole thing, is that there is NO SCIENTIFIC PROOF, that Cigarettes cause any of that stuff that the current TYRANNICAL GOVERNMENT shoves in our face.

I repeat, there is no SCIENTIFIC PROOF....Period. And don't start linking me to stupid epidemiological studies either. These studies are not scientific proof.

Think about it. Some of the oldest people in the world smoke, started when they where 10 or 12. A couple of years ago a 100 hundred year old guy ran the London Marathon. He smoked all his life (since probably 14). After he was done running the marathon he celebrated by smoking and drinking beer.

The average longevity of Italians is around 85, the majority smoke. The same with Iceland, Japan, and some other countries that collect statistics.

If it where scientific fact, that smoking kills and reaks havoc on the human body, then why are all these other countries and over 100 year olds doing so well? You can't say aaawww, it's genetics. Because there is no SCIENTIFIC FACT backing that up!! Genetics is just a "jeeez I can't really come up with an answer so I will make something up" to support my theory.

So start investigating, and you will find that there is NO SCIENTIFIC PROOF that cigarettes cause any of those blasted diseases and illness that the GOVERNMENT says it does. SHEEESSHHH!!!

If every human on earth were exactly the same, looked the same, ate and drank the same crap, spoke the same language AND worshiped the same deity, someone will fervently hate someone else because they don't breathe the same way. Why? There are good people...and there are dumb people. You can't fix stupid.

People are herd animals and it's a social thing. More people drink alcohol than smoke/vape now, so we're outcasts - excommunicated? I wonder if it was the other way around during Prohibition?
