My Boba's clone

I read this thread through a couple of months ago, can't get Boba's over here but I got some ideas and threw this lot together:

TFA Black Honey tobacco - 2%
Inawera Virginia Absolute - 10 drops/10ml
Loranne Butterscotch - 5%
Inawera Milk Chocolate - 10 drops/10ml
Inawera Chocolate - 2 drops/10ml
Inawera Ethyl Maltol - 2 drops/10ml

Drops are from the standard Inawera shop bottles.

It tasted weird for at least 3 weeks when i stopped trying it and forgot about it. Yesterday I found the bottle fallen down behind my monitor, it has steeped for 7 weeks so had a vape and OMG it is gorgeous! Gonna make 50 ml when i got some mix time

I have never had genuine Boba's but take my experience for whatever it's worth. I cannot ignore all the talk about this flavor so I made up a batch of the clone #7 mentioned here, with some substitutions.

I used TFA Black Mile, TFA Cinnamon Danish, TFA Coconut Candy, TFA Graham Cracker Clear, FA Almond and ACV in the correct percentages. I was not blown away by the taste, by any means. Even after steeping. It just was not sweet enough and the cigar taste seemed to overpower it even though I could taste the coconut, cinnamon, almond and graham cracker. Hmmmmm.

So I added 1% EM and it improved it but still not sweet and just not tasting all that great. So, time to customize the flavor!

I added another 1% of EM, 3% of my tobacco absolute mix and one drop of Vape Wizard to my 7ml bottle.

Now, it tastes great! not so much cigar taste, and the TA really improved the tobacco taste. I can still taste the other flavors and it is finally sweeter. Quite tasty, and I would make this recipe again. I am enticed to try the real Boba's now to know where it really stands.

Imo, all of the Boba's clones so far have been missing something. There is something 'tangy/alcoholic/fruity' in boba's that I can't quite nail. What I do know is that it's not cherry and it's not coconut like people believe. It's very rich and very strong, but either I've never tasted it in real life (like Almond Amaretto, which I've now tried and isn't the culprit), or the flavor concentrate doesn't taste like the real thing and my taste buds are confused.

I thought the fellow (ccwaters) may have figured out the flavor a few pages back, but as always... anyone who thinks they get close to Boba's just teases the crowd and leaves the thread. Back to the lab again.

@JohnnyDill - Try VZ's "Black Cigar" instead of TFA's Black Mile. I've found that at 1.5-2%, it's a nice mellow background cigar instead of an in-your-face cigar.

Ha, so this is my closest yet. Always hesitant to share but, I'm making progress behind the scenes.

Nature's flavor almond amaretto hazelnut

Vaping zone black cigar

Signature black honey

Either signature or TFA graham cracker(very similar)

And still waiting on more of a steep to decide between Hangsen highway or red usa

Then a good amount of Rustica tobacco absolute diluted using scubabatdans recipe which is 2 drops in 10ml PG Ethyl Maltol

I left out percentages purposely. 5% each is a decent starting point. Maybe a little heavier on the graham cracker. TA solution I'd do 2 drops per 10ml to start. I'm still messing with this obviously.

Yeah taste is close. I may go higher on the TA. The ones I did are higher in the graham cracker and black cigar. Color is just about spot on. Little bubbles. Need more steep though.

Real Bobas on the right. I expect each to get slightly more reddish like Bobas with a steep.

Tfa is funny like that. Places like wizard,mfs, and the signature line apparently have tfa flavors not on tfa's own website. I think anyway. Feel like I've noticed a few flavors like that.

Thanks. Trying...There's definitely a good amount of TA in Bobas. Gives it that throat hit it has and with that much flavoring can be "hidden"underneath it all. Which type of TA? I'm not sure yet. Leaning towards the rustica.

Also thinking that the tobaccos are lower percentages than the other two.

Just mixed up some TA at .5%. Scubas method calls for .25% TA dilution used at 10% correct? If that's the case, mine should be used at 5% for same results.

I use 2 drops pure TA diluted in 10ml pg Ethyl Maltol. Thats scubabatdans recipe. He uses Ethyl maltol crystals and plain pg though. Just adding to the premixed EM is easier and the same.
Then in my tobacco recipes I usually use a drop per 10ml. It's strong and kicks in with the steep. Some use 2 drops per 10ml. Bobas I think has more than the standard.

Switched from tfa/sig black honey to vz honey flue cured. Much more honey taste.

Wonder if he pre-mixes/steeps the VG and TA as a base.

I agree the best DIY juices I make come from trying to "clone" juices I've tried. I actually gave up cloning and just see what people come up with that might intrest me. i find it far better than actually nailing any receipe.

Me too. Three weeks ago I received my first order of Boba's Bounty and Gorilla Juice, just 30 ml of each. I did not like the BB but the GJ was fine and I figured it would make a nice change from my daily vape every once in a while. Because of the ridiculously high landed cost for these small quantities of juice I figured I'd have to DIY the GJ, which brought me to this thread. As a result I can now produce something which I like just as much as GJ - many thanks to everybody who has contributed recipes and suggestions. But the main reason for making this post is that I revisited my neglected bottle of BB yesterday and found that it is now surprisingly good, so I decided to try "cloning" that too. I started with the popular clone #7, but I don't have any almond oil and no coconut (hate coconut!) so started trying other alternatives. The reason I put "cloning" in quotation marks earlier is that I don't consider that one juice is the clone of another juice just because it tastes similar - but that's just me. I'd be more inclined to accept the term if the juices tasted alike and had similar physical properties such as viscosity and color. So, back to BB. Although I didn't like the taste of the stuff first up I did like the color and was also relieved to find that it wicked OK - not at all like any 100% VG which I have ever encountered personally. I mention this because my own efforts center around producing a "taste-copy" which is no more than 50% VG and which has a reddish (or burnt orange) color. In addition to the four ingredients from #7 which I have I am trying hazelnut. Also, for vinegar, I am using a Balsamic vinegar largely because of the color factor. Also considering a dash of Goodejuice Cherry - that stuff tastes like heated nichrome wire to me and is very disappointing, but if a small quantity enhances the color without destroying the taste then it won't be a total waste of money. Once again, thanks to all contributors, keep up the good work.

It has to be just 2-4 different flavors. I find it highly doubtful that the man sat there mixing 8-12 different flavorings to come up with that e juice. He probably had some random flavors lying around and was like "ooh I wonder how these 3 flavors would taste together?".
I love bobas and its all my all day vape but people are over thinking it. I've tried Boba's #7 and it did not taste anything like bobas to me. The color was pretty spot on as well as the smell of the juice but taste wise it was off. I know taste is subjective but if taste was so subjective, bobas wouldn't be this popular and everyone wouldn't be trying to clone it.
I feel like its just one pastry flavor, one fruit flavor, and one sweetening flavor like honey or brown sugar.

I agree that Ben didn't think too deep into Boba's. Most people who adore Boba's call him a genius, which I think is a huge stretch. The guy's vapes taste great and he was one of the first all-VG mixers out there, so respect is due. But the whole Boba's thing was likely just as you said. "I wonder how these would taste together". I think its 3 tobaccos and 2 non-tobaccos, but after that it's unclear so far.

I'm Curious, what are you doing with all these mixes you are making? You had to have gone through a crap load of ml's of e juice in your attempts to clone this e juice. Good work by the way. You got some serious patience man!
