I know the BB recipe is suppose to be simple but why does Ben have a hard time stocking the flavors especially the main flavor in BB and GJ. This makes me believe that the closest we'll get is the pre-mix Black & Mild/Black Jack from DIYFS and the trick is to get the correct % of the other flavors.

Here is a comment Ben made about the cost to make his ejuices especially the Premium line:

"I've always set the bar low for profit to price ratio. That being said, yes the flavorings for these juices are expensive to the point that they cost more to make than they are to sell. I create my loss-leaders during sales and I'm very up front about it."

This is another hint to what flavors are not being used:

"I've heard a LOT of feedback about this flavor and what I can tell you is that it is different to different people. I know the 5 basic ingredients to this liquid and I can assure you nobody has come close to guessing them but.. I have heard:

Chocolate
Apple Spice
Hickory
Sugar/Marshmallow
Menthol (?WTH?)
Wintergreen (see menthol)
Ginseng - ewww

... and a few others, none of which are actually in the juice. It has a smooth tobacco base flavoring with a bite that accentuates the throat hit as well as supplementing the tobacco finish for a sweet medley on the tongue."

Hey man, I was amending one of my posts on the previous page at the same time you were posting this. Check it out if you are interested. I would have finished first if the damned system didn't keep telling me I needed to logon again. Somebody once told me how to get around that problem but - well, I'm getting old and forgetful. Thanks anyway.

What's so special about this Black Jack? I've never tried it, and how does it compare to the black cigar,t-smog,black mile plus?
There's wine flavoring in it is all I know, and It also comes in 0 nic. I just ordered about every Hangsen wine, liquor, tobacco, cigar and some additional flavors I think may be in it to play with.

There's no point buying Black Jack since it's about the same price as boba's which defeats the purpose of DIY'ing the Boba's. :(

I fail to see how $20 for 4oz of flavoring compares to Bobas retail price? Granted it is not a concentrate, however it is also not a weak flavor, and even mixed @ 10% I find it a decent stand-alone. Even mixed at a much higher percentage it is still subastancially less than $52 per 100ml. Perhaps you missed the part where I already stated the flavoring IS NOT listed on the site, only the pre-made juice is. Even though it is not listed it is easily available, at least for now.

I dunno, whats so special about Bobas?

PS: I've made a couple of "not boba's but not bads" myself using TFA concentrates and, more recently, some weaker concentrates from China. Earlier this evening I dug out another of those called Cherry Pipe. So, tomorrow, I'll try the Cherry Pipe as a stand alone juice and, if OK, make another experiment with that plus some combinations of RY4, Camel, Mild Black Pipe (TFA), Perique, vanilla, cola, rum, Boston Cream and, maybe, a drop or two of Royal Peking Jelly to tweak the exhale if necessary. Limiting each batch, of course, to three tobaccos and two non-tobaccos. Well, it keeps me off the streets and costs me nothing but time because I've accumulated all these ingredients, and many more, over the last year. Time to get some value out of them! Many thanks for the encouragement and the pointer to an old running mate N here in Land of Oz.
I wonder if a Jamaican Rum flavor offers the sweet honey/molasses notes...Also I remember someone commenting that combining Cherry and Almond creates the flavor illusion of a raisin note when BB is freashly made. Since I really don't get the slightest coconut note to BB but others do, I wonder if Vanilla Tahiti could give it the coconut-like flavor.Btw, I know Ben says he doesn't use a Tobacco net but it doesn't mean his supplier doesn't. After reading his comments about the cost to get his flavors and can't make it in zero nic, it's has to be a custom extract..Ben is very crafty in how he words his answers. He already said he will never disclose his recipes and if you get anywhere close, he'll David Cooperfield around it. :)

I know the flavoring isn't listed, so can you please tell us where to get it?

I emailed and asked them if it was available for purchase, I was told yest it is, just order any of there flavorings in the size you want add into notes during checkout that you want this to be Black Jack Flavoring, and they'll do it. I've ordered it 3 times so far, doing exactly that and had no issues, first one was a 1oz. plastic bottle, the other two were 4oz. bottles.

Here is what was written in the email:

If you would like some just order any diy and put in the notes that you would like black jack flavoring...

It is where Ben supposedly started out DIY.

I got my Black Jack in the mail today and it is possible that it's one of the ingredients, but it leaves much to be desired. It smells and tastes like a combination between sweaty person and cigar if that makes any sense at all. Still lacking the smooth/turkish-like tobacco base, tangy/alcoholic note (might be the wine version), and cocoa notes. There's also a touch of nuttiness in boba's I'm starting to realize. Some people say hazelnut but I don't think so. It's there though. Take a big whiff of your Boba's and you'll smell it too.

I also have picked up on that nuttiness, and it reminded me of the hazelnut creamer I use at times.

Oops, sorry about that. i used to be considered a computer geek. Now my kitten can do far more with a keyboard than I ever could. Just produced a page full of gobbledegook. Hopefully, the original post has gone forever. All I was going to say is that I have compiled a huge list of comments about what people can taste - there's very little in taste world that has not been mentioned on at least one of the pages in this forum. I think it's time to get back to recipes which have an overall quality of boba's for you, if not anybody else. It's a waste of time to worry about who tastes what - because as many have commented before - we're all different. All we have in common is a liking for boba's - and even that's not true, many are happy to tell us they don't like it. But recipes are good - if you don't like what you have tried so far maybe a new recipe might just work for you. That's been my approach anyway.

But don't mind me, I'm undergoing major boba's withdrawal symptoms as my package of goodies seems to be lost and gone forever.

Back in 12/2009, Dawn was making a B&M flavor for her customer (Joe) and when Joe posted a review about how awesome it was, Ben praised Dawn for nailing it and that he was also trying to make one for his customer. Dawn pretty much helped him refine his DIY skills.....I read this on another forum.

It seems they have one flavoring but 3 different versions of this black and mild on dawns site? Or are there 3 different flavorings? Im thinking the black and mile plus with the wine notes isnt the one. Not having tried it, but based on the reviews above it seems off.

Is the actual flavoring 100% VG? My thought is that its substancially different tasting from ECX or VZ b&m. At least I hope so. Cause those two arent right at all.

Anyone with the actual black and mile flavoring from diyfs might want to try combining that, Bulgarian TA, and a light touch of cinnamon danish or cinnamon red hots and see what you think. Ive long said I know TA is part of bobas. I tasted it right away. Anyone who vapes a lot of TA tobaccos like I have for a long time knows its unmistakeable in a juice. The raisin note in bobas, which I do agree is there, is from the TA.

I believe ben meant 5 ingredients total. 3 of which are tobacco. The other two could be anything including just plain old distilled water. The third tobacco... are there any with a buttery note? I was thinking TPA Dk/555 but that in my mind would be nutty as well and I didnt really taste nutty in bobas.

Im just thinking out loud mostly here, with questions.

Buffalo, the three black jack variations all come as concentrates. The only one that she offers in VG is plain Black Jack, though. You should grab a small sample, they're pretty cheap. Just be sure to tell her in the notes you want to substitute whatever you put in your cart for VG Black Jack concentrate.

Thanks for clarifying that for me. So I just order the premade and say I want the flavoring instead? Or order a different diy flavoring from them and make a note? Sorry, Im just trying to get it right... lol.

Ya know, just for giggles, I realized I have some TA with DK 555 already mixed. Im gonna siphon off 7ml into a vial and add a drop of cinn danish and two drops of VZ b&m just to see what I end up with.

No worries, it can be a confusing shopping experience over there. I usually just put a different DIY concentrate of the same size I want in the shopping cart so the prices are all the same at the end of the day. So if you wanted their smallest size (3.7mL for 2.45$), put like Apple flavoring concentrate 3.7mL into your shopping cart and put in the notes that you want Black Jack VG flavor concentrate 3.7mL instead of Apple. They'll charge you the same amount this way, but ship you Black Jack instead.

I bought my BB on 6/19, it was shipped to me shortly thereafter. I got it, loaded it, vaped it and thought "BLEEEECH, what is this stuff???"

It was so strong and piney overpowering. I totally did not "get it." I tried it one more tiime and had a similar experience but I think it mellowed and morphed into the flavors discussed here; nutty, maple, raisin, hint of chocolate, etc.

Tonight I loaded it up into my Fogger 4.0. I love the tip it comes with as it inserted well in my Fogger fill hole:) So I have been chewing down this tank and my whole house smells like.....DATES:p This stuff is insanely good. I can't wait to tinker with the flavors mentioned here.
