My DIY is missing that smoothness, creamy, buttery not really a flavor thing.

So I've been trucking along with this DIY for a bit and buying mixed juices along the way, I'm mixing 50:50 PG/VG using TFA flavors, and have had zero success getting that smoothness, creamy, buttery not really a flavor thing I'm finding in the better premixed juices I really like.

I presume custard, butter, dulce de leche, bavarian cream, or something along those lines would do the trick but I don't know and don't have any of them on hand.

I'm aware of the acetoin, acetyl propionate, etc. and have read the thread http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...zine-diacetyl-acetoine-help.html#post12637951 so I assume any risk with a good understanding of what is known at this time about flavors.

It's a slow march toward finding the perfect mix but I feel I'm making a lot of progress with the flavors I have, I'm seeing very little return on the very minute changes I'm currently making.

Toss me some cues and ideas for my very sad description of what I think I'm looking for.

I'd suggest adding a touch of Vanilla Swirl, Bavarian Cream, Sweet Cream, and or Marshmallow for a smoother/creamier mix if you want TFA flavors.

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks Steve, I'm not stuck on a particular brand of flavors, just interested in the effect itself.

I find for a smooth, thicker, more bodied texture adding .5% (thats point 5 and not 5%) of EM and marshmallow do the trick quite nicely. You don't want to use these ingredients to sweeten or add a marshmallow taste just to enhance the texture. EM will have the added effect of bringing out a slightly sweeter flavor to a flavor thats already sweet but is not the main source of adding sweetness. You should not try to enhance the sweetness until you get the texture right. Likely ounce you get the texture right you will find there is no need to enhance the sweetness.

A word of caution. Adding anymore then what I recommend will completely change the formulation to something other then what I describe and not in a good way.

A good read is this.

If you're wanting a flavoring without the diacetyl, etc... you could try Flavour Art. I've used their Fresh Cream to add smoothness, body and mouth feel, without changing the flavor, really. Vienna cream is great for that, too, but will give a richer, vanilla touch to it. I'm new to this, but got that suggestion from HeadInClouds.

I noticed the MTS vape Wizard in that thread and kind of thought it seemed right but my first impressions don't seem to be doing me very well in the DIY arena.

I have EM and its not doing what I'm looking for anywhere from 0.25-0.75%.

I'm getting something in the pre mixed flavors i like similar to what you feel in your mouth after drinking milk, kind of like that but not that taste (at least not like the milk I drink).

I've never vaped a custard flavor (at least not one that is advertised as such) mostly minty chocolate, cinthol, chocolate orange, my favorites are the chocolates with this texture that lingers a bit.

I'll certainly try out the whole range of suggestions that you guys send my way.

Try and make sure whatever you are using doesnt have diacetyl in it. Most cremes do have this and it isnt good.. Some dont, but most do..
Vanilla Custards, Bavarian creme, nutty type flavors and others, etc. most likely contain this chemical. Stay away from it...

I'm aware of the diacetyl warnings, to what extent I will avoid it is a decision I will make knowing full well the potential.

I tend to look at it this way, my days were numbered with smoking, I could tell I wasn't long for this world had I continued on that track. It felt somewhat like mixing clorox and ammonia in a closed bathroom, (yes I've done that) every morning I felt this way.

I'll take some risks others won't simply because I feel every day since I stopped smoking is a gift, if vaping kills me, you know what, at least I enjoy it, I hated smoking.

Im not trying to be a ...., but it is possible to enjoy vaping without the custard notes. I have been able to create some wonderful vapes using FA flavoring which is free of those chemicals and help with forum members. Do I miss TFA bavarian cream and wish I could use it? Yes...but the potential risks are not worth it to me. To each thier own I guess.

Your not being a .... at all, I understand your concerns, and will consider them when deciding on what I will vape.

The arguments against the molecules listed has been made as have any that are for them, I am not qualified to know if their replacements are safe safer or unsafe, so I'm simply going to have to make a decision. Take a known risk or take an unknown risk. We are all test subjects in a way, aren't we?

If you have a suggestion that provides the texture I'm looking for that seems safer and it works for me, I don't have an issue using it. However I am looking for something in particular, not something else that may also be nice and enjoyable in its own right.

Of The many flavors I have tried, there are few I enjoy, fruits are of nearly no interest to me, bakery I have zero tolerance for, some tobaccos I really enjoy, savory food is all together just gross, so I've landed squarely in the candy flavor section of vaping. Oddly enough I don't actually eat much candy, ever.

The e-liquid world is flush with flavors and companies that have nothing I like let alone have the slightest interest in.

If some fantastic perfectly safe juice pops up on my radar, I'll gladly jump on it, until then don't take my happy place away.

So I'm about to pull the trigger on an order of flavors from Wizard Labs;

TFA flavors
Whipped Cream
Orange Cream
Butter (movie theater)
Vanilla Swirl
Bavarian Cream
Sweet Cream
Marshmallow

LorAnn flavors
Cream Cheese Icing
Marshmallow
Orange Cream
Bavarian Cream

Wizard Labs flavor
Menthol Liquid

All are said to be diacetyl free by the way.

One research paper I read on analysing Acetoin and Diacetyl in bacterial cultures mentioned that the researchers converted Acetoin into Diacetyl by a simple oxidation process involving ferric (iron) chloride.

I'm going to go ahead and just assume my DIY flavors and ingredients are ferric chloride free for the moment.

With these flavors I'm hoping I can get the texture I'm after. I did double up on flavors from TFA and LA that are named the same, if they are the exact same thing I suppose I'll figure that out soon enough.

I think TFA vanilla swirl is the best vanilla made and has the bonus of being custard note free! :) Add it to any flavor, say TFA strawberry, and you have a Strawberry Swirl sucker type of vape. Kind of candyish. I also loved TFA bavarian cream.
