My doctor told me he had no problems with the e-cigs. He said everyone has to find their own way, the main thing is to not smoke. It's nice to be able to vape in the house, no more freezing my azz off to grab a quick ..... :)

I think letting people find their own way is a terrific philosophy. I lurked around this board for several weeks before taking the plunge, and there are people from all walks of life and from all over the world who have switched to vaping to reduce or eliminate smoking. It's good to see the medical community either validate it or at least not be too bothered by it.

I've fired doctors over much less than that (Yes FIRE... If I am paying them, then I consider them as being in my employ). I would say to ask your doctor nicely to do some research before condemning, and if they are still talking down about vaping... Time to kick em to the curb. Just because they are a doctor doesn't mean you should hold them in high regards.

I'm thinking of looking for a new doc. My usual doctor wasn't in the office, and I don't want someone who thinks I'm still a smoker AND that ADD can just "calm down in a few months" as a fill-in. When I see my regular doc again, I'll mention it to him and see his reaction.

Probably not a bad idea.

At the end of the day, you know yourself better than any doctor ever could. A doctor's advice is great, but when it comes to what's happening in your head, you're really the best judge.

I have mild ADD, and am pleased that I'm just as "steady" with vaping as I was when I was smoking. Takes alot of vaping, though, especially when I'm working.

Glad to know I'm not the only one :) My ADD is also pretty mild, but if I don't have the nicotine, I'm a bit of a spaz. The vaping helps for sure. I searched for ADD and nicotine on Google and found some promising results from a clinical trial. Seems like it helps. :)

Nicotine was a godsend for me, even if smoking wasn't; without nicotine, I'd have a really hard time staying on task, and after decades of smoking, it also became an emotional crutch.

Humans need a certain amount of nicotine for brain function, but I shudder to think about how much cabbage I'd have to eat to make up for my PAD habit!

My doc not only was happy when I went to e-cigs, but did some research and now recommends vaping to all her smoking patients.

It's very heartening to hear that. Maybe they'll go to bat for us if there's any threat of a ban. Has anyone heard if the AMA has an official stance on vaping?

The following were all encouraging the FDA in their ban attempts a few years back...
--American Lung Association (ALA)
--American Heart Association (AHA)
--American Cancer Society (ACS)
--American Medical Association (AMA)

I have read where one of them is starting to have a change of heart.
But I can't remember which one right now, and I can't find any current literature.

I think it is the AHA that is having that change of heart.
But again, I'm not sure right now.

Excellent topic! I was just in to see my doc last week, and told him I had finally quit smoking. He asked how and as I told him about the great success I had with e-cigs I wondered if he would drop the hammer on me... He was VERY supportive and said he now recommends them to his patients that want to quit.

I was very happy to have found something that FINALLY worked. After smoking for 25 years and stopping like flicking a switch I felt great about it anyway, but it was very nice to have that kind of validation from a physician.

It's so great to see more and more new people hoping on board here every day with their stories, the success rate is just amazing to me. Everyday I am so thankful I decided to give e-gis a shot.

It would be great if any one of those organizations would reverse their stance on e-cigs, but it would blow my mind if the AMA continued to support a ban when so many doctors encourage their patients who vape. I'm looking at the positive responses here, and these are just the ones who have responded on this thread, on this forum. The replies have been mostly that their doctors support it, if it gets them away from smoking.

I'm not looking for anything radical, like insurance picking up the tab for my vaping supplies - I just want to be free to pursue it without governmental interference. No one's going to listen to a random citizen like me, but if the medical community spoke out in favor of vaping, I believe the government (and the public in general) would listen.

I was at my doctor a few months ago and for sure got that disappointed doctor look when asked the smoking question. It'll be interesting to see what she has to say the next time I see her. I hope she's supportive because I've been seeing the same doctor since I was a kid. She's made many comments about me needing to quit over the years. She is pretty cool though so I'd like to think that she'll be supportive and interested in it. I think I might be a little heart broken if she wasn't. I'd still vape anyways but it'd be nice to have her support. I almost want to make the appointment now because I'm pretty curious what she'll have to say.

Over the yrs I've been quite active with a number of non profit orgs. There was a report out last year that many graduating from College were applying for work in the "non profit" sector. Reasons given were the opportunity for advancement and the higher than average pay scale. Many of these non profits" pay out huge salaries to the executive and before I decide to volunteer with an org I NEED to know the money is truly going to those in need. A couple of yrs ago the Sally Ann found they were loosing "market share" because they weren't "marketing" their product properly and collections were suffering. Notice the adverts now promoting the Sally Ann...SA is one of my fave non profits.
I guess what I'm trying to say is many of these non profits have lost sight of their original intentions.
