Hello folks, just letting my story be told to those who may be interested. Well, my mother died of cancer from smoking, father had two heart attacks apparently linked to smoking, and quit. And I still continued to smoke knowing that. So, when I saw the e-cigs advertisements, figured I had to try it in order to continue smoking without the death or dying part.

The Order : Picked up a standard Joye 510 starting kit, ordered last Wednesday night (yes right before New Years eve, New Years, and the weekend), as well as high strength Marlboro flavoring, and tobacco. It also so happens I ran out of smokes on that night, and vowed to not buy any more until I tried the 510 (yay for withdrawal). Tuesday night comes, my order is here, fully charged up and loaded(and primer fluid blown completely out of new atomizers). First up : Marlboro. I was a Marlboro/Camels primarily smoker, and believe me when it tasted nothing like the brand, or even tobacco at all. It was sweet enough to be sickening, and I threw it out on the basis that it was expired or something, tasted like crap. That is, until I used my other battery and atomizer to smoke some of the tobacco flavor. Long story short, after a few attempts to try and correct it, I could not get it to stop tasting like the outside layer of Advil to keep you from gagging on the taste while you swallow it. Unfortunately, an Advil is just what I needed after several attempts to try this, headaches being severely dehydrated from each puff (had my water glass, felt like half a cup was necessary per puff). And as for the throat hit and smoke, it was not satisfying, I didn't feel like I was actually smoking anything (although I could certainly taste it, and felt the heart race from niccotine). Overall, I can't really understand the hype from the community (although I can respect it), and I never see myself vaping again. Which is too bad, I really wanted to like this.

It's not as easy as just buying a kit and it giving you what you want, you have to experiment with different flavors and nicotine strengths to find your sweet spot. When i bought my first kit i got Camel flavor and it was nothing like Camel cigs and was too strong, my first kit was a 2-piece KR808D-1 so all i had to do was order some more cartomizers in lower strengths and that was it i was sorted.

Don't give up on it yet :)

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your first e-cig experience. I think you might be expecting too much. No, it's not the same as having a real cigarette. It doesn't taste same. But before you toss the whole idea though, you might consider substituting a few cigs a day with the e-cig. And try a whole different flavor, perhaps something like cherry or coffee. A flavor that you don't expect to taste like a regular cig. Also, if the pg was too drying for you, try some vg juice.

I was thinking jsut today - and Ive not got my 510 yet btw or done vaping - that I didn't like actual ciggies the first time I tried them either. They made me cough and feel sick. The 2nd time they did too and my chest hurt a lot.
And the 3rd..and 4th...it took a while before I was thinking 'mmm' - and i think that's something we all tend to forget, as for most of us it was so long ago that we started. Why don't you get some juices from the places the other posters mentioned (also TW or Tastyvapor) and try again when you have a bit more free time to devote the whole messing about with it part?
Oh and stay safe on deployment :)

It took me 3 months to quit smoking. I too got the basic 510 starter kit with the yucky pre-filled carts ... but I soon found this forum and decided to try different juices. I kept thinking that if I can find something that tastes good to me, I can give up smoking. Well, I finally found that something, in fact a few juices that I absolutely cannot put down! I finally quit smoking on 12/24/09. I don't miss cigarettes at all! In fact, my boyfriend had a cig a couple of days ago, and the stench almost made me gag ... I couldn't believe that I never noticed that smell before!

3 packs of Kools per day, 30 year habit.

I had much the same reaction with my first kit, the only difference is that I could see the potential. As bad as my first overpriced, underpowered kit was, and as bad as the juice tasted that was included with the kit, I could see the potential. Up until that moment, I couldn't imagine that I could ever quit. My whole world-view included the assumption that I would die at some point from emphysema or something equally horrific. I had been feeling my mortality for some years, but still couldn't make myself quit.

A few hits from an awful-tasting, crappy little truckstop PV changed all of that.

That's why I kept at it until I figured out what worked for me. It took me 3 months to completely quit smoking. I still needed/wanted a cigarette or 3 or 20 every day. I spent what I thought was a ridiculous amount of money in search of "my sweet spot". I only thought it was a ridiculous amount of money. I figured it up today, and I've made money off the deal. I've spent about the same amount for vape-related stuff as I would have on cigarettes in the last 3 months, trying everything. Unlike the cigarettes, however, my stuff isn't gone. I have months worth of supplies on hand.

Sure, I've spent over a grand on this stuff, but check it out:

3 packs per day @ $5 per pack X 90 days = $1,390.00

Did I mention I have a few months worth of supplies on hand? Let's just say it's only 3 months worth. I have replaced $2,780.00 worth of cigarettes for about $1,500.00, and I've made every mistake in the book.

You know what? It wouldn't really matter if it had cost me $10K. These things have saved my life, or at least a big chunk of it, and that's no joke. It's been worth all of the aggravation and frustration.

Unfortunately, they aren't for everyone. Good luck to you.

The first time I tried an ecig it was an nipro. You are right it didn't really do it for me. I did see potential. I vaped and kept smoking occasionally. Then I found the 510 and things started to change. It was definitely a learning curve. I had to figure out how to inhale, how much eliquild to add and the overall process it takes to vape. Then eventually it got better and I completely quit cigarettes. I never expected it to happen but it did. I am so glad I stuck with it. My health has improved 100%.

I didn't like the tobacco's when I first started vaping and felt a little discouraged as I ordered as you did marlboro flavor as well as some other tobacco's. I stuck with it though and became excited when I tasted apple and from there went to a bunch of different flavors. I go back to the tobacco's ( doctored up tobacco from T.V. which I thought were pretty close to actual tobacco in analogs). There is definitely some experimenting required from what I've experienced and read, but the options vaping are endless if you truly want to quit analogs. Hope you can give it another try, I feel vaping with a little adjustment to flavors saved my life from 30+ years of 2+packs a day. Good luck.

Not sure who you got your kit from but I can tell you, the prefilled carts are not the same. I received some prefills from a vendor, they tasted awful. Kinda like you described, sickeningly sweet but with a slight undertone of perfume. I was lucky that I still had a few prefilled carts from another vendor and these hit the spot until my order came in of juices.

I would say that vaping isn't for everyone but IMHO, smoking is for no one. Even tho vaping doesn't taste like analogs, I do know that carts and juices from different merchants can be worlds apart in terms of flavor and throat hit.

First post here. Hi peoples

I'm trying to use vaping strictly as a means to eventually stop smoking altogether...and not to replace the nasty analog habit (learned a new forum term already :p) with vaping as a long term substitute. It would be a means to get me to a long overdue end.
My son gave me an "electronic cigarette" (yes, that's all the packaging says) for a Xmas gift. He picked it up at a local package store. No instructions included and the first night I tried using it I kept it in my shirt pocket at a club and while enjoying my friend's live blues band playing I discovered the burning smell and uncomfortably hot sensation I was having around my heart was due to the e-cig being on continuously. It burned my hand just trying to take it out of my pocket.
Maybe the loud music was keeping it on...I don't know, but I haven't tried it since.
Not wanting to give up on my goal though I looked online for some help and was led to this place.
After around an hour of searching and reading I can see there's a wealth of information to be absorbed here. The bad thing about this place though is that I can see there's a wealth of information to be absorbed here. ;)
My head is now swimming with more questions than when I came here.
I was all set to order the Njoy pen style, but now I'm frozen with doubts about what action to take and afraid once I order I'll find some thread here informing me what I ordered was the worse possible choice...and could lead to impotency and a craving for sniffing glue.
Life is so much simpler when you don't have choices.

If any of you have any guidance to offer a confused noob like me that isn't trying to make a hobby out of this, or a fashion statement, and only wants a reliable, easy to use, easy to refill system then I would greatly appreciate your input. In the meantime I'll keep reading.

Thanks much
Addi

Just some input. SOme "automatic" style PV's (ones that automatically turn on when you take a "drag") use a sensor that is sensitive to sound. Those have been known to ""turn on" in the types of environments that you describe.

Other automatics will use a vacuum switch... which does not respond to sound. But many of us just prefer the "manual", where you have to bush a button to make it work. The manual will also give you better control over the vapor production.

Thank you Scottbee and Red Zone. That explains it.

Been doing some more reading since my first post and am now leaning towards the joye 510 manual. Now I just need to sort out who to buy from, and what flavor of juice to use...and what strength...and if I buy the PS (?) based or vegetable based liquid...or mix it myself...
;)

I'm about 2/3rds done with "The Wonderful World of Vaping"
