Well folks, the day has finally come 2 months and 5 days after I started vaping... my first atomizer is dying. This will be the first atomizer that has ever died on me. I started using it at 5v a week or so ago and now it is finally calling it quits. Can we take a moment of silence? Also, how long did your first atomizer last before dying? I'd love to know.

Dying or dead?
I was under the impression that they either worked or didn't - as long as all of the components are still present and it's fairly clean.
I haven't killed even one in over almost 3 mos, except back when I first started I pulled the wick out of one because I didn't think it belonged there....
Dying. Not dead yet. It's producing very little vapor and this thing used to perform like a champ. I have tried reviving it but it's on its last leg.

They do that. One thing that kills them quicker than anything is washing or steeping in liquids. I'm sure that you already give it a regular blow through, but if not give that a go - it's the most helpful thing really.

Nooo I'm a naturalist when it comes to atomizer health. I blow out my atomizers every night before bed, and do a small dry burn when changing liquids to ensure no build up. (Wait for the atomizer to juuust start glowing a very dull orange and cut it off, repeat 5 times and refill) and I don't use carts. CARTS ARE EVILLL AHHH! I am totally against washing/boiling/other cleaning methods not suggested. So yeah, it truly is on its last leg. Atomizers come and go, and I am aware that they should be treated as disposable but you know it's just so hard not to get attached to my first one ever, that got me off of analogs for good. Le sigh.

Yes blowing the atty out is one of the best things you can do to keep it healthy, I will totally agree with that.

I still have my first one and I use it constantly. although it hasn't worked at 3.7v in along time. As it got weaker, I uped the voltage to where it runs strong now at 7+.:D:D

If you do the Highping dry burn method, step by step including the rinsing with very hot tap water, and it doesn't fix your atomizer and make it work as good as new again, I'll eat my hat.

An atomizer either dies, because the coil snaps, or it fades away due to built up crud, or gets clogged up with dried up juice. If it is not dead, it just needs to be cleaned correctly, and correctly is by doing the Highping method using a series of hot water rinses and dry burns.

I am on a mission to stamp out atomizer myths.

:)

I know you've been doing dry burns, but clearly they were not long enough to burn off all the crud.
Either that, or you now have dried up juice clogging the mesh, because you don't wash the atomizer.

I still have my first atomizer... bought it in may of 2009...still works (if an RN4081 ever really worked) Sorry for your loss...

Honestly...I consider an atomizer in need of renewal when every hit I take tastes burnt and kinda nasty. I've realized that after a while the wick material becomes burnt and nasty. My renewal method is pulling off the bridge with pliars and then cleaning with water and blowing/burning dry. It makes em drip only, but all of my kit is styled for drip anyhow. ^_^

2x edit, though the "facts" thread says the wicking material does not burn, I've got the proof that it can be burned sitting on my desk right now... little blackened fibers of nastyness, dry now, but no amount of washing has yet been able to restore em.
