Okay, I got this idea from Jay and finally went ahead and tried it out tonight - it works!
Materials:
1 6ml empty juice bottle (all those Honeyville bottles will come in handy, hehehe)
1 new dc cartomizer, steel (had to peel off the black label and then used a cloth soaked in vinegar to wipe off any glue residue)
1 driptip
Tools:
exacto knife (box cutter)
hammer
dremel tool to cut slits in the carto OR punch holes using a drywall tool and your hammer <-- that's what I did
Method:
Using the exacto knife, cut the tip off the bottle neck just above the first thread. Next, take your steel cartomizer, remove and discard the rubber plug from the tip and push it through the hole in the neck of the bottle and centre the (mouth piece) end inside the bottom of the bottle; using your hammer, gently hammer it so that it cuts through the bottom of the bottle (you may want to put a small flat board over the thread end of the carto so as not to damage the threads as your hammering it through the bottle). Once it cuts through the end of the bottle, you can fish the punched piece of plastic out of the carto tip using a paper clip; discard.
Carefully remove the carto and punch/dremel two openings on the sides of the carto near the bottom (about 13-15mm up from the bottom end of the carto) - ideally, you want the slits/holes to be sitting at the bottom end of the 'tank' when the carto is inserted. Once you get the holes punched through, reinsert the carto into the bottle (I inserted so that the threaded end of the carto protruded from the threaded end of the bottle) and make sure that you can clearly see the holes through the bottom of the tank. To fill, back the carto out slightly and push to one side of the tank giving you enough room to insert your juice bottle tip down the side and fill. Once filled, gently push the carto back up through the hole making sure that the threaded end has clearance at the bottom. Insert drip tip, screw onto your battery and vape! Voila!!
Here are some pics of the finished product - it certainly doesn't look fancy but it works!
ETA: Day 2 - I'm finding the tank a little 'gurgly' today as though it's getting too much juice. I think that on the next attempt, I will modify the design by only putting one hole in the carto rather than two.
