I picked up 4 of the smoktech V2 3.5ml slim DCT tanks (don't like the looks of fat tanks) and 75 regular size boge LR SS cartos at Health Cabin during their Anniversary Sale. The tank bodies are polypropylene rather than polycarbonate (no cracking). I have 3 long barrel drip tips from Siam Mods to extend the length of the cartos to fit the tanks. the joint between carto and drip tip is actually just below the end cap inside the tank. You can pull the drip tip off and fill the tank up without having to move the carto. The tanks were less than $5 each, have chrome caps, don't leak, don't crack, and are easy to refill. Winner all around.

Well, there's an interesting concept. Thanks for sharing. For myself I like fat tanks, and the fat bellied drip tips like the Ming. I did however end up with 16 tanks and 100 XL cartos in HC's sale. ;)

LOL! Dude... I like your style.... "If you are going to go... go hard and all the way!"

I've gone back to my tanks with the new Boge XXLs because I was tired of the sketchy quality of the dual coils. On my second slotted carto change in the tank I ripped the o-ring on the bottom cap and went back to punching with the saddle valve.

That was the 3rd ripped o-ring in my 2 tanks. Didn't rip any while punching.

I'm not sure how you slot, but what I do when slotting is I start the cut in the center, then slowly move the wheel slightly side-to-side across the incision as I apply light downward pressure so as to make the slot flat (as opposed to concave by just letting the wheel cut in one spot) and remove any burrs that form as it cuts. I've never sliced an O-ring this way or had the carto catch as it slides in.

I get into the "gotta top up" zone when my juice stock goes below 300ml and my carto stock goes below 50. ;)

I am so doing it wrong then.... for carto's its when I am down to 1 for me 1 for the better half, at which point I boil some old ones just incase they die before the new ones arrive. Which happened once so I am rethinking my whole plan :)

Juice is similar, once I start getting low on the stuff I really like I will get an order in so worse case I have stuff that I dont mind and if it all goes to heck, stuff I dislike but haven't been able to give away :p

It takes a lot and is a huge commitment for me to buy 30mls of a juice :p

My comments about the possible residual from slicing wasn't meant to dissuade you from your happy place of tank lov'in, it was something that popped into my head as a possibility and incase you hadn't considered it, I would have not felt right not mentioning it.

It's not that I care about people, it is just that you are currently in possession of my vmod, so I want to make sure it's best interest are looked after ;)

Funny enough, somebody hit me up for my Silver Bullet yesterday. :)

LOL neah dude I just happen to have something to poke you with, which in my head means to do it as much as possible. I figure either by the time you are ready to get rid of it I will have released my grip enough on my wallet to buy it, or you will be ready to get rid of it and I won't want it because I won't have my poking thingy with you :D

I was bummed out with my tank attempt with a few different things but once I got the large boge and Cobber let me use his saddle valve to punch it, I too now understand why people like tanks as they do.

Did you find your juice consumption almost triple with the tank? I am not sure if mine did or I was just able to see just how much I use in a day compared to constantly topping up. Heck I even asked Cobber if the amount I went through was normal, apparently it might just be me :p

Hmmmm. I've always found that slotting them makes it a little more difficult to slide them in and out when using a filler tool. The slit seems to catch in the o-ring when I go to push down and fill from the top. When I was slotting I would always push from the threaded end so the slot wouldn't tear up the inside o-ring. I'd love to know if you have a secret to get around this. I currently use a saddle valve I got from Mcmaster-Carr and a tankfiller from BDV. The valve I have is punching a great hole with little distortion and I haven't noticed the same catch I did before. What size dremel disc are you using?

Juice consumption up?! Check!! I think I'm just vaping even more insanely than I do so that I can watch the level in the tank drop. LOL

What size dremel disc are you using?

It's the about one inch slightly rough cutoff disc. It's less than a mm thick. The slits they cut are about the thickness of a driptips o-ring.

They have sizes on them?!

I use the slap yo mama adapter from Big Daddy. No o-ring cuts; pop it on, slide the carto down about 1/2 inch, fill the tank and slide the carto back up.

I use a saddle valve punch, I tried using a dremel, but the filler got scorched. The next time, no scorching, but the carto tasted like metal. Making a small extra hole on the other side of the pre-punched smoktech 1.7s has worked great for me.

Well, I for one have had it with *$(#@& tanks. I've used a saddle valve to punch a larger hole in the existing one on the carto, or punched an extra one. I'm sick of the recurring problems with gurgling and leaking. It seems like you can't take it outside with you, else the jostling around will make it worse. Even keeping it still on a mod...just last night I noticed the tank was causing leaking down to the bottom of my little wood mod. Thank goodness it didn't get inside. Frankly, I prefer the Stardusts. I've had fewer problems with them....and I don't think they don't go through juice any faster than tank systems. I remember Toronto Mike mentioned in another thread that it would be great if they modified the SD's so you can put a 510 drip tip on it. I fully agree with that.

You know i got 5 here (two of which are in tanks) that i got from Dark Side who in turn said he got them directly from Smoktech, and i have noticed that there is three holes in each cart which i took out of the factory sealed individual sealed packages, i am not sure if this is something they do for their 3ohm single and 1.05 single coils or if it was a fluke that happened five times, but i can tell you vaping 100% vg at 4.8V is pure heaven :D the RY4 (100%vg) i got from honey ville vapors makes it like a London (England) fog, and the 7up from jug heads really snaps with throat hit and vapor (and yes i coughed the first two times on the tank)

So maybe instead of slotting you can see if on the single coils you get this three hole punch? I would try to take a picture but you would need a series of three pictures (front, left and right) to show i am not pulling tails here...it is indeed a very pleasant surprise and joy to use now :D

The reason it is working so well is because of the 3 holes. The single hole ones do not provide enough juice to the wicking material to keep it constantly wet, and hence results in burnt carto unless you are using water thin 100% PG. It is also one of the reason that I prefer slotting because it provides the wicking material with enough juice to keep it saturated.

Moral of the story: Find what works for you and stick with it. Hopefully the manufacturers come up with something that will do away completely with slotting, poking, prodding.. fiddling in general. I wouldn't get my hopes up though. ;)

Sorry i meant they came with the three holes already punched in them :?: if i could still use Flavor Crafters (allergic) then i would see what they were like in there .....as it is right now i am waiting to drain one of them to see what the joke smoke is like :D

Smoktech does make a carto with three holes in it, so it's not a fluke.

Do you know what they are called on the site? Or do you need to special request the three holes?

I almost gave up on cartos in tanks also. Been up and down the common issues apparent many times and have researched these mysteries to death. I'm now of the view that slots, slits, holes, these are all secondary concerns to the real culprit that causes the most problems. Filler material. Specifically its quality and consistency in how it's manufactured/compacted. I've torn apart my problem cartos and the way the filler material is compacted ranges widely not only within the same brand or batch, but also as between individual cartos in the same package. This is not so apparent with the Kangers but mostly the Smok DC's and their comparatively peculiar filling.

Only 1 of my 7 ST DC's is what I would consider perfect. But let me state this perfection has given me the absolute best vape I've yet encountered. No flooding, no burnt taste, TONS of vapour and taste and no hint of carto filler taste overtones. So WHEN they work they can truly be worth it. Too bad about the inconsistencies. This is why I've ordered the FUSION 801 single coils. Several people have pointed me in this direction and I'm still impatiently awaiting delivery. Apparently the material they use in these particular ones is excellent and they are manufactured far more uniformly. So what I'm saying is don't give up. While elusive, that perfect vape from a carto/tank setup does indeed exist. I understand that for some this is too much hassle but I'm determined.
