Tank Carto Punching Tool-Even I can do it with this!!

I was having trouble getting the technique down for punching tank cartos and came across this great little tool on another thread(thanks to ED-209).At Home Depot it's $10-- "Poly Tube To Pipe Saddle Valve With Insert" http://www.homedepot.ca/product/poly-tube-to-pipe-saddle-valve-with-insert/924648.
I picked one up a couple of hours ago and have punched 3 Boge cartos so far and they are all working very well . Below is a link to a youtube video--I'ts really easy to use--after you hear the "pop" when the carto is pierced I've been going another rotation or two and it's been working for me--knock on wood!

Thanks for the tip I have a couple of questions for you
Does it seem to bend the carto very much
Would it be possible to drill a hole in the bottom of the punch so you could see the dot. Easier to line up different holes for different tanks.

It does bend the carto a bit but doesn't seem to affect it--not much more than using a nail or screw.I'm not too handy so I'm not sure if you could drill a hole or not--it is pretty solid metal.I've done 5 cartos now and after the first two I've been able to eyeball it pretty good and get pretty close to my dot.I'm attaching the link to the Big Daddy Vapor tank thread that has some pics of the holes this tool makes(post 205). Also--on the same thread someone posted another version of the tool which looks even better--not as easy to get as going to Home Depot though .I've got a Big Daddy tank on the way to me--hearing good things--we'll see how it is--seems like a good vendor--ordered on Friday night--shipped on Saturday.

Nice looking tanks and at least he has all the parts for them. I have a few different tanks and think they are great. Now that I've seen those I guess I can add to my collection shortly.

I have been using the same thing for a while now. Purchased from hd. Most important part is to make sure it is centred before tightening the two bolt holding it in place or it can slide sideways on the carto when you turn the tap screw.

Since you've been doing this for awhile I was wondering how much more you turn the screw after you hear the "pop". Also--what carto are you using?

I am using XL dual coils. Pretty much back off after I hear the pop. I prefer punching only one hole as I find ones that I punched two holes can flood.

I just watched the video and that was me who showed this to Oliver44 at the last gta get together Don't try this is a loud bar you cannot hear the pop. Works great with the k tank/ G tank that Oliver showed me how to make. Just squeeze the k tank to prime it.

I like that "pop"--with a screw/nail I never knew when to stop--lol---that sound tells ya to stop now or proceed with caution.How did you discover this little tool?Great work!

Installing a humidifier on my furnace they come with the kit. First time I saw the carto tanks I thought that these would be perfect for punching the holes.
