hubby claims he is not addicted to nicotene. we vape @ 24mg. he asked me to make him some no nic juice to prove it to me. i just got my wizard labs supplies in, so i did it. i made him a 50/50 ratio with .25 strawberry, and .25 peach for 10ml. it turned out quite tasty. he says it tastes fine, but he said there is no throat hit at all, so i will not be making it 50/50 in the future. what ratio would you recommend? he doesnt like a lot of throat hit, just more than nothing would be good. suggestions?

That throat feeling is strongly due to the nicotine. Just today I whipped up 10mL of 12mg/mL and 45mg/mL (I was going for the strong NJOY feel) of the exact same juice, in the same proportions of everything else. The taste difference is dramatic.

Nicotine just has a taste. Same with caffeine: no one notices how much that chalky taste contributes to coffee until they taste decaf.

If you find something that gives enough throat hit to fool your hubby, let us know! I'd like the 12mg/mL a lot more if it had that kick.

thanks...great suggestion

Also, have you tried "nasal" hits? Not really a TH feeling, but it is still a feeling. Vaping at higher watts and exhaling through the nose gives me a "feeling" in the nostrils. I'd say it is the equivalence of a TH, but you feel it in the nasal region. Also, you might experience a difference in the taste of the juice :toast

All of the best points have been covered in a very short number of posts, so all I can do is recap.

"Throat hit" is just a fancy vaping term for irritation.
Nicotine is the primary irritant in eliquids, affecting the lining of the mouth, throat, gums, and lips, causing what some describe as a "peppery" feeling or taste... especially when your equipment spits, pops, or leaks while vaping.
In order to mimic the throat hit of nicotine you'd have to use another irritant in it's place.

As mentioned above, some of the known irritants used in eliquid recipes include pepper extract (capsaicin), ethyl alcohol (PGA or pure grain alcohol), and some strong essential oil flavorings such as menthol, mints, and cinnamon.
Some flavoring mfgs have "heat"-type offerings like LorAnn's Chilli oil that might be worth a look.

Thank you (very much!) for that explanation! I think far too many people think "PG" is magically synonymous with "TH" (and don't understand that we're talking a simple irritant).

We've been experimenting with FW's Capsicum HEAT (from ECX), and we've 'dialed in' a fairly good replacement for the nicotine TH by mixing 5 drops of HEAT in 10ml of VG. We then use that solution at 2% of the recipe.

However, our base blend is different than most: 80% VG; 9% distilled water; 9% Saline Solution (.9% NaCl); 2% Pure Grain Alcohol.

We're herbalist and we make our own tinctures (pretty much as you describe above), but we chose the HEAT additive because it's totally void of any "pepper taste"...it's allegedly pure capsaicin extract at 1,500,000 Scoville Heat Units (HU). From what our mixing indicates to us, it's likely they've overrated the HU...but it IS volatile and not something with which I'd joke around. (inhaling that level of capsaicin at 10% strength would be exponentially hotter than the fumes from habanero peppers...and the fumes from a fresh habanero/vodka blend will scorch your nose/mouth/lungs and cause extreme coughing).

Handled with respect, it's the best subsitute for a nicotine TH we've found so far.
