Well, I did it.

My face didn't implode. I did get a nice throat feel. The tobacco juice isn't bad. It's definitely not like the real thing.

Is it normal to hear gurgling noises?

I can't tell exactly what type of clearomizer that is, but a bit of gurgling noise isn't out of the realm of normal. So long as you don't have any liquids "spitting" up the mouth piece it's working right.

The amount and intensity of flavors that you're going to have at your disposal is going to blow you away . I've been smoking for 40 years a pack and a half to 2 packs a day of american spirit black and I don't regret the switch . Nobody says you have to give up cigarettes instantly , go at your own pace whatever is comfortable for you. And if anybody says differently then to hell with them. I think you'll find vaping pretty damned enjoyable like I said it ain't medicine there ain't no limit on doing both until you're comfortable with it .

First....thanks for the words of encouragement. I feel like I'm an AA meeting and wanting to be enabled!

    Second...how many draws/tokes equal a normal cigarette.

Can I overdose on the vapor? Will I hallucinate and start seeing little blue men chasing me with phallic devices?

I can't tell you how many puffs equal a cigarette. Depends on the device, the nicotine level of the juice, and how you are vaping it. It is highly unlikely you will make yourself sick vaping, although my advice is to take it slow and vape until the urge is gone. Then to just take a puff or three every once in a while. Listen to your body, it will tell you when you need a puff.

Vaping is different than smoking in that when you lit up a stinky, you were committed to a whole cigarette. Vaping is different that way. You will learn to only take as many puffs as you need. Note this will vary. There I times I hit my PV like a steam engine, others when I take a puff or two and that is all I need.

Wanna know what's weird? Sitting here at the computer having a "smoke" and not having to go outside.

I feel like I should be outside.

Some people still do that and go outside to vape anyway. I'm pretty sure they use it as an excuse though...

This is just the beginning of a lot of things that change. Like, what was the last thing you burned with a lit cigarette? So many things you get to kiss goodbye.

If you are one of the lucky many when you start vaping, smoking cigarettes turns disgusting real fast. Didn't see that coming after 30 years of smoking and all those numerous failed attempts to quit. Here's hoping you both get that experience too.

I totally hear ya, KnurledNut. I started off by trying vaping, just as happy as can be. I soon realized I didn't really need cigarettes anymore, and was delighted. But then after about 4 or 5 days, I had a bit of panic/anxiety when I realized it looked like I was actually going to quit smoking. Some of it was the sadness of being out of the "smokers' club", some of it was fear that I would go back to cigs in a moment of weakness and get hooked all over again, and some of it was just getting used to the weird feeling of vaping, especially in public where people might judge me for it. I also had let some people know early on that I hadn't had a cigarette in days, and they were all so sure that I was "over the worst of it" and had quit for good, but I was not yet convinced myself and did not want to let them down.

So for me, the physical cravings were really (amazingly) a non-issue with the e-cigs, and I was a 1.5-2 PAD smoker for 17 years. There was a bit of a mental struggle to overcome though, which I don't hear people talking about too much on the forum. Maybe I have a tendency to self-sabotage since change and success tend to make me nervous in general.

I just kept reminding myself to take it one day at a time and to try and keep in mind all the ways that vaping is better than smoking, and I still have not caved for a cig, nor do I have any particular desire to. I am still pretty green with this whole vaping thing, but it is already starting to feel more normal.

I'm not sure if this is anything like what you are feeling, but you are definitely not alone in feeling apprehensive. This forum does help me a lot, if only to remind me that there are many others who understand what it's like to make the switch to e-cigs and who vape proudly despite any strange looks they might receive from smokers and/or non-smokers. We really don't fit into either club, but we have our own club, and it's pretty cool! I hope you learn to love vaping. Now that I am mostly over the whole mental block thing, I am really digging it so far. Best of luck to you!

The habit part of cigarette smoking is going to be hard to break. Being a two pack a day smoker I developed habits like everyone else. Going outside. 3 smokes upon waking. Smoking like a fiend while drinking...you know, those sort of things. It's sort of like your mind has you conditioned to perform certain actions at certain times.

as for how many draws, it depends on the strength you got, if it's 18MG juice 5-10 puffs roughly,

As for overdosing, some people have reported they did too much and got a headache or felt shaky. I've never had an issue, but some people have.

Because we're considered heavy smokers, we went with the 24mg juice and hope to taper down from there.

I did get some advice from a friend at work. He started with 24 mg and after a year or so I thinks he's down to 1-2mg or something like that.

I keep different levels around me for different occasions, some days I am really stressed out and want 24MG and a lot of it, other days when I'm calm I like a nice 12mg. That's me though, everyone is different. I think most people ween themselves down to low levels. A lot of the time lower nic levels offer better flavors.

Actually one of the harder things some newbies need to figure out is you have to learn to vape enough. This isn't the auto pilot you were used to with smoking. An e-cig doesn't do a thing for you unless you pick it up and push a button every time. That, and the nicotine delivery isn't the same as with cigarettes. (More like the gum and Nicotrol inhaler.) You don't get those instant nicotine buzz moments from vaping. (That's actually a good thing.) You will sort it out. But no, there is no real way to compare "2 PAD of this equals how much vaping of that."

Blue men and phalluses? I have to go look that one up but I'm pretty sure that isn't a symptom of nicotine OD. lol

Keep in mind that you will have two things going on here at the same time: Introducing vaping and quit smoking withdrawal. This isn't just about the nicotine. While there is a possibility of introducing too much nicotine, most users have a bigger problem not getting enough to keep smoking cravings at bay.

There is a big FAQ about this stuff here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/health-safety-e-smoking/3305-list-symptoms-when-quitting-tobacco-changing-ecigarette.html

    Don't scare yourself reading it.

I had it pretty rough transitioning. A lot of the typical quit smoking withdrawal issues that I had with any other quit smoking attempts. In hindsight, I attribute the issues I experienced to quit smoking withdrawal versus ever getting too much nicotine.

And as you have already figured out this is all flexible and customizable. If it turns out 24 mg is too much for you there is always 18 mg waiting. Or 12 mg or 6 mg...

congrats KnurledNut, boy it was nice of you to share your apprehension with us as you took your first puff, i felt like i was right there with you! =) yeah they do take a little getting used to, but the new experiences can be fun, and really the whole thing is about your health and happiness, so i welcome it.

about the gurgling, occasionally the coil can get flooded, and i do one of two things: i hold the unit upside down, vertically, and tap it against my knee, trying to use gravity to get the flood out of the coil. sometimes takes a little while, and if you see some juice coming out, youre successful. keep tapping til it stops. or two, if youre outside, hold the thing in your hand like its a knife and youre headed for a knife fight... raise your hand above your head, hang on tight to your PV, and swing your arm down fast, trying to use centrifugal force to pull the flood out. best to be outside for this, juice will fling out of it. =)

    anyway i hate gurgling =P

good luck on your adventure =)

A word of advise, be careful vaping in your car. Throwing it out the window out of habit is more than possible
    :?:

Funny, after more than a year, I still have to drive with the window cracked...just can't get used to the quiet driving...unless it's pouring or snowing, of course.

You'll get used to it. Its a matter of replacing your normal smoking habit with vaping. Smoke after a meal? Vape instead. Smoke while driving? Vape instead. Basically, instead of thinking, "I need a cigarette" think "I need a vape".
Do that for several weeks and you should be golden.
If worse comes to worse have the occasional cigarette, just try and smoke less and less and the days go by.
Good luck and congrats on wanting to make the switch! :D

With the iSmoka Bccs I find that when it is gurgling it is either the coil is not down enough or juice got into the center post, Try pushing the coil down a bit and if that does not work take the tank off the kit and blow into it. It is not hurting anything if it just gurgles though. Great choice on the kit though. I have handed those out to almost all of my friends. I think I must have bought 20 of those things so far.
    Good Luck and Vape on

Oh and by the way there is no shame in keeping with your cig rituals. You will find that as you vape longer you will taper off until you forget to do them all together. My biggest one was smoking after meals, I vape like a mad man now!
