My Fellow Belleau Woodsman! About two weeks in and vaping is friggin gosh durn outstanding! (Sorry for the little bout of motivation)

After three days I had one drag off a cig I bummed and it tasted terrible. Things can change that fast. When not at work I vape 18mg near constantly, and when at work I vape 24 on smoke breaks. That's worked for me from being a 1.5 pad smoker. No looking back!

Good luck! Stick around these forums for great advice and info, but be warned it may make you want to spend lots and lots of money (but probably still less than you would've on cigs)

I'm a Plankowner of the USS Bellau Wood (LHA-3). Too bad she is no longer with us as they decommissioned her and sank it off the coast of Hawaii a few years ago.

Anyway, keep it up and you'll eventually get to where you don't want to be arou d other who smoke. I've been vaping now for over 18 months and haven't missed smoking at all.

Funny, after more than a year, I still have to drive with the window cracked...just can't get used to the quiet driving...unless it's pouring or snowing, of course.

Yeah, I'm always a little amazed at how quiet driving is with the windows up. As I'm still smoking some, I still automatically crack the window when I get in the car. A/C works better with windows up - who knew?!

Enjoying reading other peoples stories here. After smoking for almost 25 years 1.5 - 2 packs a day.. I tried using the (other e-cigs) blu, fifty three trio , Krave. Jazz etc.... none of theme worked for me as they seemed very weak & I still craved cigarettes like crazy and so I continued to smoke. The day I got my ego kit,... which btw, was a lot cheaper then some of those other kits, I took my first puff of vape from it & was totally blown away with how amazing it was. I've not have a analog cig since. it's only been 13 days now & I can really tell the improvement in my breathing & feeling much better too. Out of habit, I still go outside to vape sometimes and 2 times now grabbed my lighter and tried to light up the end of my battery lol. Some habits do die hard

I am using tobacco flavor 24 mg nic that's working really well for me, however I got some bubble gum and watermelon flavor, both in 24 mg nic.. & well those taste soooo good I wanna vape on them like a mad man. Think I'm going to cut the nicotine level in half on flavors like that next time I order more.

Brand new here too. Enjoying the Knurlednut thread. :D

Wife and I stopped into a smoke shop last Sunday for some pipe tobacco (which they had in the back now, not in jars on the counter) and they had a whole bunch of e-cig stuff. Meh, there's no way I would have gone for a eGo at that point. Got a couple packs of Marlboros and some pipe tobacco, wifey checked out all the pipes and hookahs, and tasted some e-liquid samples. She doesn't smoke - cancer survivor of 12 yrs - smoking not allowed. But she used to and she liked menthols.

When we got home the subject came up again. I quit for 7 years after her cancer when we both quit. But I started back up about 3 years ago, still about a half PAD. She hated it, constantly complains that I stink, but would occasionally say she was gonna try one. Especially when we would have a cocktail or glass of wine. And there I was having a smoke.

So I got online and started searching for info on e-cigs. I was all about trying a analog looking e-cig. V2, Greensmoke, Halo, Volt, all the big names in the biz. Just about pulled the trigger on a kit and then thought I would go back to my local shop and see what he had since I hadn't been paying very good attention when I was there.

So he showed me the eGo and how it worked, I puffed on it, tasted good, and a couple of them with some juice wasn't any more than what I was going to spend at Halo or V2 for a couple of PA's and a carto assortment. Realizing the batt on the skinnies weren't gonna last and the eGo would go 3-4 times, it became the logical choice. I had no idea there were so many options for liquid.

I immediately went from half pack of Marlboros to 2-3 cigs a day. I can go all day, just after dinner, late in the evening, is when I want to burn one. But after just a couple of days they are already tasting kind of nasty. The vape is sweat and cool, the cigs are hot and bitter. So I just know it won't be long and the cigs will be gone for good. Plus, puff at the computer, in the car, at my desk - just wow!!

I can already tell that I'm feeling better without the smokes. Less tired, more smells, better mood.

And wifey is pretty thrilled to have a cool menthol puff.

The second day we decided we didn't like the juice so much from our smoke shop guy so we did a search in our area for e-cigs and juice. Found a really nice new juice bar close by, looks like a cocktail bar, but they have all differenct juices to vape. Of course we each found one we like better. I'm vaping a tobacco flavor with 18mg and the nic levels seem to be fine. I'm still learning to draw longer to get more vape, more taste, more nic. She has her menthol with zero nic. We're both happy.

I also found several online equipment sellers so I have at least 3 or 4 orders coming for clearomizers, extra bats, and more liquids to try. It's already turned into a hobby type of interest - a couple of hundred bucks worth. But hey, I was spending $100 a month on cigs, so this will end up being a lot less anyway.

My best suggestion is read the new member thread, especially about how vaping is done compared to cigs and why it's so different. That was an eye opener for me. My eGo is working much better now.

Second - find a local source with a large juice selection and try some different ones 'till you find something you really like. This is huge and can't be stressed enough. If I had been stuck with one flavor and that one didn't appeal that well, I'd be done-for as a new vaper.

Now subscribed. Thumbs+

I forgot to ask...

How do I clean the atomizer? I know how to break it down and remove the coil, after that is it just some dish soap and hot water?

Soap? Not a good idea.

Are those bottom coil clearos that came in your kit? (Unscrews from the bottom to fill and the base with the coil comes out in one piece. Short stubby wick at the bottom.) That type has one cleaning procedure. The top coil CE4's you ordered fro FT are a different beast and will have a different procedure.

Let us know how the kit ones come apart and we can go from there.

BTW: Clearomizers, not atomizers in this case. A good beginner jargon dictionary is here => e-Cigarette Jargon and Terms - eCig 101

I'm just feeling weird about the whole thing. Maybe it's because I'm old and have been smoking for 36 years. I have been 'practicing' with the Flings for a couple of weeks but now that I see the juice it's weirding me out.

Is it normal to wonder if this is really going to work? I know I'll be getting the nicotine that I crave but damn, it's hard to explain the apprehension.

Seriously.... you have nothing to worry about. I smoked those desert humps unfiltered for 54 years and haven't had one since the day I started vaping 3 weeks ago..no joke

I have played about with different e cigs for a couple of years, none of them seemed to do the job and after half a day they got put in a cupboard and are still there. This time I decided to give it a real go and played with sample juices for a while (Getting really annoyed with bad flavours) till I found one that works great. I am 6 weeks in now and have not looked back. I was scared at first after 18 Years of smoking roughly 30 - 40 cigs a day is was thinking I will never smoke again, but now even the smell does nothing for me. Give it a go, you have nothing to lose and you could save a small fortune or spend it all on MODs :)

It's been 1-1/2 hours now. Only had 1 real cigarette and a bunch of vaping.

It's still very weird 'smoking' in the house. But my wife is right with me doing the same thing. We are going outside out of habit.

No dizziness, no hallucinations...a few cravings. I caught myself getting up to have smoke and then realizing that I could vape at the desk.

One thing I did notice...I'm still coughing, but not quite as much. I'm sure once the tobacco tar starts clearing my sputum will look like cured asphalt.

That "sputum" thing will be different for every person. Despite a 30 year habit I had minimal things going on with hacking up goo.

About the coughing: Remember what I said about having 2 things going on here? Quitting smoking and starting vaping? If this is only one or two days in chances are this issue is: starting vaping. For some people throwing vaping on top of smoking is adding insult to injury. And PG in liquids can be a problem - some people find it more harsh than others.

It isn't necessary to lung inhale vaping as you did with cigarettes. The nic absorption happens in the mucous membranes anyway, not in the lungs. Try vaping more like you are pulling on a cigar: big, sort of open mouth pulls off the e-cig, take the vapor into your mouth and to the back of the throat and no more.

It took me weeks to un-learn my auto pilot smoking style when I started before a different vaping technique became second nature. I was a deep lung inhaler from smoking and trying to do that when I started vaping sent me into coughing fits every time.

First, let me say that I work nights, so I usually wake up in the mid-afternoon, which I just did about 20 minutes ago.

So...

I woke up and immediately went outside with a real smoke. Then I realized I was vaping. I grabbed my vaper and went back outside and had 3-4 puffs. Not enough nicotine. Because I'm still half awake I forgot that I needed more vapor. Instead I lit up a real smoke and hotboxed it. Yuck...it didn't quite taste the same. I'm still jonesing for more nicotine. I start vaping like a chimney. Man how I miss my regular smokes. But I continue to vape. My nicotine levels are almost back up to pre-sleep mode.

One thing that's very weird to me is the amount of vapor that my machine produces. I feel like I'm going to get in trouble for smoking in the house, but then I realize it's just vapor. I look around the house waiting to get yelled at, but then I see the wife vaping away while she's quietly laughing at me.

First coffee is now in my belly...nicotine levels back to normal. I feel almost human again.

Nope, didn't use soap, just warm water.

I didn't order top coil CE4's. The T4's I ordered are the same concept as the kit I have now just a different shape and color with replaceable bottom coils. I wanted to keep everything simple.

I was 1.25 pack a day smoker when I started using disposables first. That got me down to about 0.25-0.50 packs pretty quickly. I then started vaping with an e-blu and a ego-c. I'm pretty much down to zero a day but I still do cheat from time to time. I wouldn't feel too bad about cheating a couple of times when you start. Either that or throw out your cigs. The first time I cheated after not having any for several days was when I found a full pack in the back seat of my car. I still have 3/4 of that pack left and should probably take my own advice and just throw it out as it does call my name from time to time.

I felt like you and still do..apprehensive, scared and sad to give up the cigs. Weird relationship with them-love/hate thing. I smoked for about 20 yrs, Marlboro lights about 1-1 1/2 pad. I've quit cigs for 3 weeks now and started vaping about a week and a half ago. I can't say I totally feel better yet, more depressed cuz I miss those damn cancer sticks.

I'm still very apprehensive w/the whole vaping thing. Not trying to be Debbie downer, but just being truthful. I feel this should b better than cigs but still not convinced in the long run, anything you heat up and inhale is good for the lungs. Plus I'm not sure what the wicks are made of (silicone or what have you), fumes from the plastic tanks/cleros and of course the liquid chemicals themselves. So I had one night of heavy vaping w/a friend while drinking and didn't feel real good the next day. Ok, hangover slightly but my chest felt tight, throat was dry..just yucky.

And when I hear in here peeps say "your lungs need to get use to it or the vape can dry you out" that doesn't sound good. Your lungs hurt and you cough because your lungs are doing their job and reminding you that you are depositing foreign stuff in them that they don't like. So here I am wanting to vape cuz I do like it, A LOT, but my head telling me to stop all smoking of all kinds. I'm pretty torn up. I've only had around 7-8 total hits in the Triton today and my nicotine cravings r driving me crazy!:facepalm: good luck to you and keep us posted on how things are going for both you and your wife!

As for the throwing out part I guess it's kind of like a comfort blanket. Sometimes its just good to know that it's there even if you don't plan on using it...I guess worse case is that you have to get into the car and go drive to a gas station to pick up a pack which may cause you to think if you really need to go buy one. I really should take my advice and just throw it out.

The other thing I found helpful is the non-tobacco flavors. When smoking the tobacco flavors I was always thinking in the back of mind "This just doesn't taste like my real cigs do." But with the non-tobacco flavors my mind didn't focus so much on that. It was ahh this tastes like a little bit of vanilla or caramel mocha. At least that's what helped me the most. Hope it works out for your.

When I was practicing with the Flings last week I lit one by mistake. Fire and brimstone erupted all up in my face. I had molten plastic running down my left cheek. My wife laughed and asked if I was stoned.

OMG that is soooo funny!!!

For me I just decided one day not to allow myself another puff (after 38 years of smoking).. and it worked... now I LOVE vaping :)

We're using the sample kit from vape dojo. My wife likes the caramel mocha. It's okay to me, but I'm not a foo-foo coffee drinker anyways. I tried the tobacco flavor first. It was okay, but somewhat harsh. Then I filled up with the black cherry tobacco. It's mellower but I can't detect any black cherry flavor. I think my taste buds have been ruined over the years. I know they'll come back...can't wait.

I've only been vaping for a couple of months and I started with a pen style because I preferred to keep the same look as an analog cig. I'm still vaping with the pen styles as I found a very good brand with a long lasting battery that suits me fine. It's just my thing and I love to vape while I'm on the computer. The first time I tried vaping I loved it.

The sensation of vaping and the flavors I've found are why I know I would never even think of smoking again. Every time I'm next to a smoker I'm so happy I don't smell anymore. I think vaping is the greatest thing ever! I've never been a heavy smoker - oh, maybe when I would drink and then feel like I smoked a forest the night before, but I really enjoy my pen styles and the flavors. I did find a good tobacco flavor that I like. I don't feel guilty about vaping like I did when I smoked.
