In a galaxy far far away
Yesterday I stopped by a local tavern here in Tacoma WA where it's is legal to vape indoors. I asked the bartender if it was ok if I vaped in the bar and she said she had no problem with it.

I started vaping and not one exhale later a lady behind me is yelling "Hey you can't smoke in here!" I turned around and calmly replied "I'm not." and continued vaping.

Let me stop and paint the picture. Now this is a tiny 40 year old bar still dripping tar from the walls from the millions upon millions of cigarettes once smoked in it and all of the patrons there were probably at the ribbon cutting ceremony, clear, a real poophole.

I try to ignore this lady but she now has the rest of the natives up in arms. "Hey man, you can't do that in here!" From what I can only assume was the "Mayor" of the tavern. "Eh, yeah I can. I'm not breaking any laws and the bartender told me it's ok." "Well it smells like a cigar" (Beware everyone. To smokers Vaporbombs Blueberry Waffle smells like a cigar) How he could smell anything let alone my vaping from across the bar is beyond me. Now EVERYONE in this bar is a smoker so my refraining from dying of laughter is commendable and perhaps worthy of an award.

The lady who thought I was smoking is telling me how the scent is bothering her now too oh and of course her friend. I'm out of steam. An hour later I am tired of explaining I'm not smoking nor breaking any laws but non of them will have any of it so I paid my tab and left.

I feel like there was a lot of resentment in that bar. Every time someone would have to go out for a smoke they'd come back in and see my happy ... vaping away. The other half I think was just pure ignorance of what vaping was, smoke bad!

I don't think I'll be going back but I have found plenty of other places that allow vaping and are very friendly.

Interesting story! I like the part about the smell bugging the lady. Ummmmmm huh??? lol I usually don't vape inside in public but hey more power to ya. I can at the bar/ restaurant down the street but I usually like to go outside anyway just to get some fresh air. At home, in my car and peoples houses who allow it though, I'm chain vaping all day.

I don't blame you for leaving though. Just wanna go for a drink and a vape and get the **** end of the stick.

You can't fix Stupid and there is no known cure for "stupid"
Trying to communicate with "stupid" ... defies all known laws of physics

Personally, when encountering "stupid" I act as if they don't even exist.
That means I don't see them and I can't hear them.

Never ever make "eye contact" with stupid.
Eye contact acknowledges that they exist and is a form of communication

Anyone watch the TV series...The Dog Whisperer ?
Lots of "Human" psychology there.
Turn your back on a barking dog and refuse to acknowledge them.
They will eventually shut up. Works on humans also...It really works

Sometimes though when you turn your back on a barking dog you just get bit in the ...! Not all dogs or humans are all bark.

Also, just because someone doesn't know about or doesn't care about something does not make them stupid. Most vapers are ex-smokers so I don't understand why so many vapers talk about smokers like they are beneath them and are ignorant or stupid just because they aren't doing the same thing and switching to vaping. Some people smoke because they want to smoke and have no interest in vaping. I can understand why some people might get annoyed by someone getting to sit at the bar and vape while they have to get up and go out in the cold to smoke. The OP had permission to do it so it was his choice to make but I understand the frustration of the other patrons in the bar. I'm glad that I switched to vaping over smoking but I certainly wouldn't look down on someone for smoking.

I understand you had permission to vape in the bar and thats cool. I usually don't vape in a public venue, I step outside with everyone else, as to avoid the "resentment" factor, and by doing this I've managed to get a few folks vaping! People ask me questions and I answer them and some are interested some are not. I use a Reo Grand when out and about, so it's hard to mistake that for a cigarette and makes explaining a little easier.

Some people are just going to hate no matter what.

Did your PV by any chance look like a real cig? You might try something like this. Doesn't look like a cig at all, and also makes stupid people kind of silent. Oh, and wear a leather Harley jacket.

Lol, yeah I had a 510-T black one and people were like still hes smoking. Now i use an ego-t XL and its like all cool. Can even vape at work inside now. The boss was like ow thats one of those electrical cigarettes right ? Someone in my family is doing it also, you don't have to go outside you know ... it's cool !

I generally ask if I can vape somewhere, so nobody can say anything :)

There was a time in the past when smoking was not only
a sociably accepted behavior...it was considered to be fashionable

Fast-forward to today
Cigarettes are referred to as "coffin nails" and smoking is banned
in most areas. Even the "appearance of smoking" is considered
an anti-social behavior

Vaping (appearance of smoking) will never be a sociably accepted behavior...
at best only reluctantly tolerated.

Other Places
The only encounter I've ever had was in a casino. Lady sat down next to me and started a fake coughing fit. I looked right at her, and exhaled. I couldn't help myself. I then asked her if it smelled like smoke. I didn't blow it in her face but just in her general direction. She said no. I told her that it was nothing but vapor and that I quit smoking over a year ago. After that, she was okay with it...she still looked like an idiot to me because of how she acted when she first sat down.

Sorry you encountered "stupid". Like posted above, there's no cure....

I use unflavored VG e-liquid and still get the looks from people.... There is allways some cry baby in the crowd who wants to infringe on my Vaping.......... When Im at the casino its legal except in the poker room, it use to be but to many people were offended........... They just cant stand to see anyone beating the system.....
A couple of years ago I wen to my sons graduation from Calpoly, Thats in San Luis Obispo, Ca.
They have a law there making it illegal to smoke outdoors on the streets... I asked this cop what about vaping? He told me technically it was ok, but no it wasnt legal to do.. Said people can see the smoke(vapor) and they dont like it........... Might as well ban outdoor BBOs, because I dont like the smoke.. I now remember why I moved to Arizona...
