Did you need to polish back the contact surfaces? The sulphate of the patina doesn't conduct as wall as the brass/copper or even the stainless, iirc... So bound to be some voltage drop.

Essentially where ever the pieces screw together. The whole tube is one "contact' (negative, usually) to the battery, so thread areas need to conduct well. And the positive button, both ends, which makes up the other end of the circuit from the switch. And the switch contacts.
If you have a digital meter, read a battery's voltage before putting it in. The assemble it all and read the voltage. It will be a bit less, that's the voltage drop across all the series resistances of the assembly. It may or may not be significantly different. If it's not, then it's fine. If there's much difference at all, you may need to polish/burnish them out to avoid heat problems.
I bet you could make your mix really gooey / pasty, and paint it on for patterns...

So how is this procedure done? I have a few brass parts and 1 brass mod that i would like to patina. What are the steps and supplies needed?
i just taped up all the thread very very good the soaked some paper towel in vinegar and coated it with sea salt until it had a crunchy feel wrapped them up and left it over night
Since your thread was almost exactly like mine, I figured I'd piggyback it.
Just finished my first, also an M16.
Used a ziplock 3 boiled eggs, a little vinegar and sea salt, over night. Didn't add as much figure as I was hoping for.
Next night I wrapped it a Paper towel with Apple Cider Vinegar and salt.
Add a light wet sand and a few coats of Lacquer.
