One year ago: Girlfriend constantly on my case about smoking. Says I smell like an ashtray and taste like an ashtray when she kisses me. Questioning the frequency of her licking ashtrays to make a valid comparison fall on deaf ears. Don't really want to quit smoking. Buy Smoking Everywhere e-cig from local brick and mortar. Very underwhelmed by it but give it a shot.

11 months ago: Haven't used e-cig much. Only when I'm with her, which is less and less lately as she now harps constantly about other things that I need to stop. Massive research on the internet including this forum have led me to order 510 kit. Ordered Yeti from altsmoke. MUCH better than smoking everywhere e-cig. Still don't want to quit.

10 months ago: Yeti MUCH better. Actually cutting down on analog usage. Pack a day now down from two packs a day. Girlfriend still not happy. Tells me it's cigarettes or her. Helped her pack.

9 months ago until two weeks ago: Yeti sits in box collecting dust. Back to two packs a day.

2 weeks ago: Really want to quit now. Decide to order more liquid and give e-cig an honest try.

12 days ago: Wow, that got here fast. Three flavors to use now. Had a half pack of analogs left and decided, "You know what, screw it. I'm done with these." Gave analogs, along with all ashtrays, lighters, and other smoking paraphenalia to brother.

11 Days ago: Want cigarette. Want cigarette real bad. Yeti keeping the beast inside at bay, barely.

10 days ago: Almost slipped and had an analog. Powered through it with Yeti's help. Yeti is now a given name, not a device name. Yeti is my friend. Attempt to make Chewbacca noises while vaping. End up coughing. A lot.

9 Days ago: Analog cravings much more bearable now. Only really strong when I first wake up, after eating, and after sex. Yeti won't let me have an analog. He is my benevolent protector.

8 days ago - 5 Days ago: Cravings getting less and less. Was surprised when first thought upon waking up wasn't "I need a cig", but rather "Where is my Yeti?". Several attempts to make Yeti appear in my hand by making Chewbacca noises are unsuccessful.

4 Days ago: Used Yeti in a bar. Got several dirty looks and answered several questions about it. Dirty looks stopped. Attractive young female asks to try it. I agree on the condition she makes a Chewbacca noise first. flawless wookie sound follows. Rest of night spent sharing Yeti with new female and discussing finer points of the wookie language.

3 days ago - Present: Yeti going strong. Still analog free. Yeti seems to be getting jealous of my relationship with female he introduced to me a few nights ago. Time to look into some battery mods, preferably ones without jealousy or control issues.

Well done, sir. Well done.

I actually LOL'ed. So glad to hear you and your Yeti are getting along.

And just for the record...

...Good for you. I understand loved ones being concerned, but constantly nagging and guilting and giving ultimatums as though they honestly believe they're our mother and/or the town sheriff is not a good way to support someone to recover from addiction. People like that need to take a few lessons in communication and how to conduct a healthy relationship. And perhaps address some of their own control issues with an intensive bout of therapy.

LOL... great post.

I have a good friend who is a psychologist and we spent some time today talking about vaping. I showed him my setups and talked about my success quitting smoking.

Anyway, I copied this little writeup about MAO chemicals in the brain because according to a recent study- tobacco is actually a cross addiction between an unknown chemical which blocks the utilization of dopamine in the brain, and nicotine. Thus allowing dopamine to be built up, therefor acting like an anti depressant.

The article and link to the study is here:

This is your brain on nicotine

Anyway- I've now had it confirmed by a professional, that it is likely that nicotine is not the only addictive item in tobacco- nor the only psychoactive one.

Which is probably why your cravings have leveled off as you detoxed from tobacco chemicals. I went through it a little bit myself. But there's the mechanism in a nutshell.

The upshot was, in his words, if someone is going through that withdrawal, they should exercise, hit a steam room, and drink a crapload of water.
