Well I knew it was just too good to last ... the comments section has started turning ugly now that the "anti-nicotine" crowd has started to post their comments. Once again nicotine addiction is being lumped in with hard drug addictions ... <sigh>

Seems to me that is has devolved into a back and forth between people arguing about secondhand smoke. Good news is that no one has posted anything brilliant like, "Ohhh, just what we need. Another item from China that's going to kill people."

Placebo, that comment caught my attention also. What do you think he was referring to? I visualized him walking up to the chewer holding his plastic bottle spittoon and declaring that the spitting in the bottle was disgusting. The next thing he knew he had an eyeful of tobacco spit.

When I was working at home depot, I picked up a can that was carelessly left in an aisle - only to find out after it slopped all over my hand that it was someones chew can. I don't think it gave me cancer, but I wasn't a happy person. (And I would venture that it was the spit, not the tobacco, that grossed me out)

Chew tobacco is so passe!

Modern smokeless tobacco products don't require spitting. Someone hand that guy a can of snus!

P.S. According to an aritcle by Dr. Elizabeth Whelan of the American Council on Science and Health, cigarettes were invented as a healthier way to enjoy tobacco. The spitoons were spreading disease -- especially TB which was epidemic at the time. One of my great-grandfathers died of it.

LOL ... well so far it would appear that many of the hard-core anti-smoking crowd that post comments on our local paper's site are actually agreeing with me. And please everyone, feel free to post in the comments section. Believe it or not, people in high positions of our local government here actually do read these opinion columns and the comments posted on them.

I have yet to see the two comments I left, one on Saturday and one yesterday, be published. Maybe when the site staff goes back to work tomorrow?
