My local news is cranking out a new e-cig story every night. Is this happening everywhere?

Tonight "local business bans e-cigs" which isn't really a story. And then some blabber and no proof of anything or even common sense. But anyway, is this happening everywhere?

I saw that. I am glad that so far they are leaving it up to the business owners. I spend time at both places mentioned in the story but wouldn't vape at either one out of consideration for others.

Yeah I figure someone is making a spectacle of themselves and the managers would rather not be involved with people complaining about those people making spectacles of themselves. It is a hassle they don't want. Which I understand. But the news is like "they are taking a stand," which they aren't really. They just don't want to be hassled. Also, the last story had nothing on their website and no place to comment. I was wondering if that was on purpose or not?

I happened to catch the news tonight so I hadn't noticed that. Good question.

It is no accident that negative news stories re. vaping are popping up en mass in large and small media across the country. This is the work of Washington lobbyists, PR and media firms making big money for their services. Just went through this with tech corporations who spend $3 BILLION on lobbying and propaganda to sell the falsehood of a STEM (i.e. engineers, software, developers, etc.) shortage. The real goal? $3 TRILLION in profits by importing still more temporary foreign workers to undercut the US job market. There are already almost 2 temporary foreign workers in the US even though the size of entire US software job market is only 3.5 million.

And I ain't lying -- this is EXACTLY their modus operandi. Of course they hide their paymasters but just follow the money. Who stands to profit? There's little doubt big tobacco and pharma are footing the bill. Their technique will lead to crescendo of "news" stories and large-scale astro-turfing with fake public concern followed shortly thereafter by legislation trying to lock-in their gains and profit.

Best defense? Call-out their falsehoods, name the paymasters and their motives, speak loudly, speak often, and write and call your elected representatives often. They CAN be defeated but we MUST recognize serious corporate money is being spend to subvert OUR democracy and YOUR health. And it will take a loud, sustained outcry for the public voice to be heard over the rustling of money in Washington DC.

I've seen this happen before when it's local and targeted. It's priming the public for some legislation that's coming down the road. Most news is little more than press releases or a "heads up" by a lobbyist or lawmaker; a form of advertising/marketing. So brace yourself.

I've been following Calif's battle against online sales and one thing they learned is they needed to be more pro-active; get there BEFORE the bill is published, before committees, before it's written. Now would be the time.

Ya. it's already affecting my own personal experience. Non-vapers starting sentences with, "Did you know... ... ...?" Tedious to try to patiently and respectfully disabuse them of their newly gleaned "information" from "respectable" news sources. It puts us on the defensive, which never plays as well in conversation. Much nicer when the big thing was 'anti-freeze' and batts supposedly exploding, which was relatively easy. This time it's a wider jumble of BS that targets all sorts of anxieties and concerns, a broadside.
Swaying the public is very significant.
They've gotten rather better at it.

God I'm hating this. :(

Oh don't worry, the FDA raised the "anti-freeze" issue on their FB page about a week after the deeming regulations came out. Comments were pretty funny (depending on which side your on I guess). They actually had some poor soul attempting responses. It was bad IMO.

I think there's brochures/business cards to hand out on CASAA website if you want to hand out those. The one I recall seeing was a list of FAQ's and myths about ecigs and where to go for more information.

There's also a chart somewhere of what is in cigarettes vs ecigs (LONG one) and a short one of what is in FDA approved NicoretteMist vs ecigs (my fav). They use all the same ingredients -minus a few others that are found in fuel, or muriac acid. NRT's are worse. They are also approved long term and for dual use (while still smoking). You might also want to remind them that Chantix lost a $300 million lawsuit in 27 states, killing hundreds and it's FDA approved and still on the market.
