My dear mother, who just a year ago I would've labeled an "ANTZ" (if I had known the term then), is now no more than anti-cigarette! (I taught her well!
). Well unbeknownst to me, she decided to write to the American Lung Association, as she has always been a strong supporter of them (and ACA, etc.), due to her father's death of emphysema (caused by cigarettes), and other reasons. She is still sensitive to smoke, due to growing up in a smoke-filled house (and other factors I'm sure), but she lets me vape in her house, because she's open-minded enough to learn new things.
Anyway, I'm sharing this because of the canned response from the ALA, and was curious of other's opinions, especially Bill's or CASAA folk.
Her feelings haven't strayed, but she thought perhaps I could write to them with the science.
Bless her heart!

ALA'S RESPONSE:
HER NOTE TO ME WHEN FORWARDING THIS TO ME:
I'm frustrated they are linking to BP, er I mean WHO, and their PDF has outdated information. I gave her a couple links from CASAA.org on e-cig myths.
Anyway, bless her for trying to be helpful, and dangit this really frustrates me, because I feel like we're talking to brick walls!

HER EMAIL TO ALA:
Please wait until more research can be done on e-cigarettes before condemning them. They are SO SO SO much better than regular cigarettes, since they do not have all the added chemicals that are in the HORRIBLE regular cigarettes. There are so many people who have quit smoking or cut WAY down on nicotine and of course NO ADDED CHEMICALS like regular ones pushed by BIG tobacco!!
I know people personally and know there are bound to be many more healthier people if we keep e-cigarettes as a much better option for quitting than current recommended therapies and products.
Thank you.
ALA'S RESPONSE:
Thank you for your interest in the American Lung Association. There is still no scientific evidence that e‐cigarettes can help smokers quit (WHO | Marketers of electronic cigarettes should halt unproved therapy claims) Until and unless the FDA approves a specific e‐cigarette for use as a tobacco cessation aid, the American Lung Association does not support any direct or implied claims that e‐cigarettes help smokers quit. ( http://www.lung.org/associations/ch...dfs/programs/msb/e-cigarette-fact-sheet-1.pdf).
Sincerely,
Gabriela

This response is no surprise, I'm sure. Maybe you could write to them and add some "scientific info.". Guess it's all up to the FDA anyway...
