i finally got a 901 and...well...what am i doing wrong?

the draw is pretty difficult, and i can't seem to activate it without covering the little pinhole on the atomizer which of course heats it up way quick, and i'm getting plenty of juice in my mouth.

basically i'm not getting good results with this thing (i'm NOT pointing fingers at a distributor) compared to my evo/pilot. everyone loves these things, so i'm taking it that i'm doing something wrong here. what am i missing?

there was a learning curve with the 401, but i think i have it down pretty good, but this one, i'm just not doing something right maybe??

yes, charged the batteries 12 hours, checked the carts, didn't overfill, batteries work fine, all that ;)

or...is this a sign of battery loss? it was a little more bearable when i pulled the battery off the charger, but now it's just...turning into a bad time.

love me and help me :)

the LED doesn't light up unless you cover the hole?

Flitz - it could be the battery switch is a bit reluctant to operate. Have you tried removing the atomizer and sucking on the battery a few times. It should light up without too much effort. They can be this way when new.
One fix i have read is to give the battery a swift tap on either end on a hard surface to kinda "shake it loose". Haven't done it myself though so i guess i'm saying be careful.

Also how easy is it to draw just through the atomizer? The way i check for a clogged atomizer is to remove the battery, plug the battery hole with a fingertip then suck gently on the atomizer. Again it shouldn't be too hard to draw through it. I can normally draw through mine without getting any juice come back out of it.

Are both batteries the same or is it just the one.

ok i'm failing basic troubleshooting here. haha.

the battery does light up fairly easy if i puff on it (the battery threads). i think it may be losing charge. i tried another battery and it's lighting up much easier and seems to be working correctly.

i'm shaking my head as to why i haven't toyed with the batteries :) it may just be a little faulty, but i'm new to the model so i can't say just yet. i'm going to try (got 5 batts) the others and see how they perform.

my thought was it was something to do with the atomizer, since it felt like i was just sucking air like it wasn't getting through to pulling the battery, but seems i'm just dumb. haha.

thanks guys...i'll dork around with it some more and see what i come up with.

the new battery is...much nicer. THIS is the kind of performance i was wanting to see, as my friend has one that is pretty nice, and i just wasn't being impressed :)

sun -- i know right! i'm having mixed luck! haha. i think i just like reassurance to know what i'm doing :) i luckily have a lot of patience and don't give up easy when things aren't working to my expectations.

seems i've gotten this one working better and getting the hang of it. i don't want this to be my new fav, but i'm starting to like it.

also per the other atomizer, i think i may have a goofed up battery and atomizer. out of the 3 atomz and 5 batts, 1 batt and that atomz isn't really working. that's still pretty good odds, and the seller is going above and beyond to get me fixed up properly.

i'll be doing that write up soon and giving all due respect for that :)

i'm going to charge this battery again though as it was the first i used at length, and it could be showing poor performance due to low charge, so i'm not ready to say yet that it seems bad. it does light up if i lip it, but it isn't activating with the two working atomizers i have.

as for the goofed atomz, it just seems the airflow is too....open? i don't know how to describe, basically when i draw on it, the air is just pulling through it like it isn't sealed enough to activate the battery. dunno if anyone else had that happen.

it DOES however, heat up and "work" just doesn't...couple with the battery and function properly.

speaking of partying...had a handful of folks hooked on my Pilot last night. may have some new converts soon :)

Hey Flitz - i experimented with trying to increase airfolw through a 901 atomizer by increasing the hole size. Well, it was too big and had that same problem you describe. To fix it i wrapped some clear scotch tape around it and poked a pin through the hole, tried it. Didn't quite have enough airflow so tweaked it out a little larger ... yay !!

woah really? ok i don't feel like a complete tool then, it seemed like maybe that pinhole was a bit too big. is that posted somewhere else? may be a good tip to keep around for newbs like me!

i think it is going to be replaced for me and i'll probably send it back, but it is insisted that i don't have to...i'll be trying that method.

i'm charging that goofy battery again too, just to check if it was too dead or if it does seem to have a problematic switch. the other 4 batts are working just fine and pull/draw just fine, so either it was dying but never flashed at me, or just plain isn't working right.

i am...starting to really like the easy draw on the 901. i really need a nice passthrough now!

and one of those battery packs....

I haven't read of anyone else trying that idea. I'm one of them guys who can't help but tinker with stuff. When i drilled the hole out it was just like you said, too easy a draw and wasn't lighting up the battery. I was at my desk and thinking "dammit, too large, how can i make this smaller now" That's when i saw the roll of tape on my desk. It looks a little ugly but it works.

The usb passtroughs are awesome if you spend a lot of time at the computer. As for battery packs, i saw some good ones on Deal extreme for $15.00 in the usb gadget section.

Happy vaping.

Of all my devices the 901 is the one I like the least. I don't dislike it, but it's not up there with the Evo or Mini-pipe. I found that the 901 delivered vapour into the air ok but not so much on the inhale - but this could just be me, others have much better experiences with it. It works better on a usb passthrough but for me still no cigar. On passthroughs my favourites are the BE112 penstyle from Bestecig and the original Intellicig (atomiser fits DSE 103 passthrough). The latter keeps going and going and chucks out clouds of vapour with a very smooth draw. The former delivers a vapour like thick cream! Good luck with your 901!

bishop - yes, full 12 hours. even if i puff just the battery (thread ends of the battery in your mouth and puff) the light is weak and takes a lot of suction to activate it) it isn't working as well as the other 4 batts that i have.

pipe - i'm still adjusting to the 901, but i still love my evo/pilot. i think the pneumatic switch in the 901 is quite different than the electronic in the evo, and is more of a learning curve, but i'm getting pretty solid pull so far on the 901.

so far though, i think i still love my evo and pilot better, but we'll see if i change my mind when i get a passthrough for the 901 :)

plus all this raving about the SD and the mini-pipe...i think one of those will be my next purchase :)
