I did that with my first cartridge, but the fibres ended up touching the atomiser which isn't good!

(Yeah, just 1 post to go before I'm out of the crib ;) )

I was worried about that as well but I looked at the main board and there's a thread about how the atomiser works with a picture and diagramme showing the composition. It seems that the metal mesh you can see down the end of the atomiser is a sort of sponge that is in front of the actual heater coil/wicking packing (hope you know what I mean by that). As I understand it, the metal sponge holds the juice and delivers it to the heater coil. The luice in the sponge also contributes to the vapour production.

If I've any of this wrong, I hope that someone will correct me.

That's right as far as I know, but the fibres will burn when they touch the metal mesh and that can't be healthy!

The polyester filling (filling) must touch the steel wool for the transfer of liquid to be made. Its when this steel wool is dry or fibers get stuck to the sides/underneath when you have smoldering issues.

And there was I pushing the fibres back into the cartridge:oops: to prevent the dreaded burn. Thanks Cashmere for putting me right on this one and explaining it.:)

The wire mesh arch is covering a fiber core, which acts as a wick, absorbing the liquid from the cartridge via contact. The arch is NOT the heating coil, and does not get hot enough to vaporize the liquid, let alone burn or melt the cartridge filler. The heating coil itself is lower, in the center of a small "pot" inside the atomizer, and never contacts the cartridge.

Hey Steve,

After taking a second look I see that you do indeed, have 18. It's under the special blend.
I'll stick with the 14 and see how it is. If I go too high, my head might explode.

No problem. I actually have 18mg in both Standard and Premium. High for both is 18mg :)

Leaf!

Thanks for explaining it better :)

Hi Lighter, welcome to the forum.

The DSE901 is a mini ecig. It's very popular and usually recommended for beginners.

Why is the DSE901 recommended for beginners? Seems like the penstyle, with longer battery and longer lasting carts would be the way to go. I'm brand new to vaping, so any help is appreciated.

I've been having same experience... I started off dripping and just used cartridege for the first time. First 10 puffs was great, then it started producing less vapor and flavor sucked so hard I almost gave up on it.
But then I thought maybe it is juice, so I pulled wool poly thingy, dry it up with paper towl, and used the juice I got from puresmoker. Dripped like 11, put the wool thingy back in, and vaped. First 10 puffs are GREAT!! then again it started to produce poor vapor with less flavor.... there is alot liq left on the wool thingy still.... It just doesn't come down.
If I have to refill each 10 puffs then I am better of just dripping.... I understand the capacity is low but I thought cartridge is for portable use so one doesn't have to drip everytime he smokes.... guess I was wrong

Please be careful on running cartridges low. It can have very ill effect on the atomizer, causing the life of the atomizer to diminish fairly quickly!

If you need anything else, don't hesitate to post or ask!

Thanks Bud,

This is probably the most important advice any new user could ever use!

I am new to the whole scene and must admit while I am going strong a week with no cigarette and loving it it has been a bit frustrating and I would definitely associate this with not using enough liquid. I burnt through my first addy fairly quickly unfortunately.

Today though instead of just dripping from the top or on the addy I have actually started taking out the filler and filling the cart half full, repacking and wiping the excess off with a towel. Actually taking out the filler and dropping about 4+ drops into cart and repacking is best imo and beats direct dripping BY FAR.

By far keeping the addy "wet" is the best advice any new user could use and I recommend sticking to this mantra. So much bad advice out there it's good to see that this forum has a user such as yourself, very informative and helpful, you sir are a true asset!

Every post I have read with your information is the best i've ran across on the whole internet. Keep up the great helpful info!

The DSE901 was my first style and is still my favorite among the normal sized (not big battery mods) e-cigarette. I had the same troubles as the OP after the first dozen puffs. Someone suggested I check out the cartridge mod (for modification) and I'll pass along that excellent advice. I like the straw mod and ZFM for the 901. Getting a good wicking cartridge will completely change your mind about the DSE901 IMHO.

As far as getting the DSE801 you might not like it. It has even more wicking issues and the only cart mod that seems to do any good is the BFD (blue foam dart). When/if you get it to wick well it will produce huge clouds of cool flavorful vapor.
