Thanks for all the tips everyone! I finally put together my first (successful) mod today. After a failed attempt at a usb passthrough, and a sorta failed attempt at a juicebox (not enough battery power), I learned from all my mistakes (and burns) and finally made a usb juicebox.

I didn't have the heart to kill a battery so I just used one of my old worn out atomizers which is now a beast! Yeah I went overboard on the switch but it was the only one I had lying around since I had been considering tackling a magnum one of these days. I really can't believe how easy these are with the battery cases. I got another lying around so I may put together another later on. Here's a picture of my usb juicebox along with a picture of it hooked up to my power monkey. :D

Nice Esko--Looks great. What did you decide on for batteries with yours---Sun

Thanks! Well, this one is a passthrough so it has no battery. I'm using the powermonkey as my portable power source. Initially I tried using just a single AA battery (lithium disposable) but that wasn't enough to get the atomizer going. I considered for half a second to go back to radio shack tomorrow to get some better batteries but I couldn't help myself since I wanted to try it out today! I do have some batteries on order from dealextreme but those will go toward my magnum mod if I ever get brave enough to try that one out. I couldn't find any of those n coax connectors at RS today so I guess I'll just have to wait for a battery or another atomizer to die to try something fancier.

I do have another battery housing and another switch on hand so I might try putting something together with a longtotem atomizer/cart to see how that works out with usb power since the parts are all dirt cheap.

Esk--Nice--great idea--a straight connection USB--Great idea. Too bad that small USB Duarcell Battery does not work, as that would have fit some of these boxes and made a great USB connection with the USB battery right in the box--I like your unit--Great Job--Thanks--Sun

Good job, those battery boxes make great enclosures for this stuff.

Yeah, the battery box made everything much easier since I had room to work and the wiring sequence was easy to see. It's funny, after spending hundreds of dollars on e-cigs, who new that my favorite would be a little plastic box and a few bucks of materials that I put together. I spend 90% of my vaping time in front of a computer so I'm completely satisfied now. Of course I'm hooked now and I want to keep learning and getting better at modding like the rest of you! ;)

Thanks Nico, so I could do a 2 x size AA battery holder and use only one of this type of battery. Or I can use 3 x AAA battery holder and use 1.2V AA batteries like the Juicebox mod.

I've also got the 3.6V 'AAA' Size battery for the E-cigar. I was thinking of making a small unit using the Rat Shack AAA x 2 battery holder. It sure looks an aweful lot like the battery case for the newer David Yang USB Passthroughs.

The 6V seems to work fine for many modders here. No early ATM failures reported yet-I am 1 month on same atm-heavy use. Only put down when it gets really hot.

ATM failures seem to be random to me and not related to 6V. I also use 5V usb and wall plug-in devices.

The SD-which continues to get great reviews uses 6V.

Yes, Bri, you got the idea about the batteries correct. The size difference between 10440 (AAA size lithium) and 14500 (AA size lithium) will mean a difference in run time between charges, but vapor production and throat hit should be pretty much equal.

It took about 2 weeks total, from placing order to receiving, to get my batteries and chargers from Deal Extreme. Order Tracking only worked until shipment left China.

The SD actually uses one CR3, so it's 3.6 or 3.7V. It's madog's magnum and its descendants that are 6V.
