"My Posts"

When using the "My Posts" function, there is a line which shows how long the search took (fraction of a second) and the time elapsed since the last update.

The time elapsed can be quite lengthy, I've seen it go to something like 104 minutes. I'm assuming the reason for this is to reduced demand on the server, which is understandable. However, I think 104 minutes (or whatever the limit is) is a bit extreme.

Or is my assumption incorrect ...

The New Posts seems to be updated dynamically.

New Posts is dynamic, databased driven. Every user will see different posts based on what they have and haven't read.

Well, that's simply not true, and easily checked by making a new post and then clicking "My Posts". I just watched it go almost two hours without updating ... meanwhile, I'd made four posts, including this thread.

It did seem to update after you responded though. That would make me think it doesn't update until someone else posts in the same thread ... if it weren't for the fact that the other 3 threads I posted in had further posts made and "My Posts" didn't update as a result.

I'll do a little experimenting tomorrow, don't have anything to post now. I did make an experimental post to the Sandbox and it supported my observation ... but, perhaps the Sandbox is a special case.? BTW, I respect your position.

EDIT: OK, I made a post to the Outside. I see a previous post of mine to the Outside showing in the search results, so I know it is not a special case. But, no update to the search function ... now showing 95 minutes since update.

I think I've noticed the same thing. The toolbar "My Posts" link seems to get a global system update periodically, rather than generating on the fly. It does have the advantage of sorting to put the most recently added-to threads (not necessarily by me) at the top. The "Your Posts" link under Quick Links is always up-to-date, but sorts just in the order of what you posted, without regard to what's going on in the thread.

It's not working again, since the software update. I've made a half dozen posts or more, likely more, in the past seven hours and not one of them is showing. The title bar shows, "Search took 0.21 seconds; generated 36 minute(s) ago. ", but I've made a number of posts within the past 36 minutes and none of them are shown.

I am fully aware that you've got your hands full with this upgrade and I'm not wanting to appear to be .....ing. Just didn't know if you were aware of it. I'm patient. Thanks for the great job you're doing!

-.- you would think that a bug of this magnitude would be detected by vBulletin's team.

vBulletin 4 core code had a typo in the search nocaching code. I've corrected it and it is no longer caching searchs that shouldn't be cached.

I just placed a test message in the Sandbox. It immediately showed up in "Today's Posts" and in "New Posts" (what's the difference in those two?),

but still not showing in "My Posts".


THIS thread is showing. But, that is because you posed in it four hours ago, I'm guessing.

Today's Posts = New Posts (excluding Suppliers Forums (unless you told it to be the getdaily version in your usercp)

Will this issue be re-addressed?

Ideally, the threads would be sorted chronologically by the last post made in them, regardless of who made the post ... exactly as the threads in Today's Posts are sorted. As it stands now, I can't identify any logical arrangement of the results. Perhaps my latest posted threads are on page 19 of the results and that's why I think it's not updating?

Chronologically sorting the results would vastly improve the usefulness of the feature.

It is chronological.

Any thread you have posted in is listed uner "my posts" They are in the order of the most recent post to the thread, no matter who posted it.

It is taking a bit longer than we would like to update, but that is being worked on.

Hmmm, I do notice that now too. I know that SilverD is working on a bunch of stuff and that may be affected for now. I'll add it to the list. He may be aware of it and it could be temporary while he is re-jiggering something else.

The newest post in the New Group Messages are even worse. One has to scan each page to catch the "new Post."
It would really be nice to have the newest post in the order they were posted.
