I started on my vaping quest a few weeks ago, and before I found ECF I was trying to do the research myself, going into this with zero knowledge. I thought the right way for me was a PV that looked like a cigarette, not one of the big PV's I had seen online. I ended with buying a Blu disposable at a retailer near me, and was pleased with it, so I ordered the starter kit (B1g1 free) along with a ton of cartos.

My kits arrived this past Tuesday and I'm already thinking I made the wrong choice. Don't get me wrong, I've only been using this for 5 days and I haven't had an analog in two now, and I'm not craving them. However, even though I may take a hit of my e-cig here and there, I am constantly charging the small batteries (lucky, I have 4 to charge and cycle through) and I have used 4 cartos since Tuesday. I've already bought new juices to start learning how to refill my cartos.

All in all, I am happy with my choice, it's small, I can keep it behind my ear, it's very easy to maintain, and most importantly I haven't had an analog in two days now which I could have never done before. But, if I could do it over, I would probably go with a little bigger system, and I would go manual over automatic. This is a great start for me, but in the past 5 days I have learned so much that I wish I had reached out to someone. None-the-less, go with what your gut says and enjoy whatever you get. Get multiple flavors (I have 6 so far) and don't invest BIG until after a while of learning the ins and outs. I'm $120 into vaping, which is nothing compared to some, but I expect that I will be upgrading my PV in the next 3 month or less. I'll use the Blu's when on the go, at work, etc and a nicer one for the house... That's my plan, but I'm not jumping that far ahead until after I have a little more knowledge.

Hi Rob! Most of us started out with the cig-sized devices and quickly made the same discoveries with constantly charging batteries, etc. I don't discount the fact that the smaller devices are fantastic for that 'transitional' stage from analogs to ecigs but yes, if I could do it over again, I would opt for a bigger battery right off the bat!

Rob, sounds like you have it all figured out to me! I started with a mall kiosk e cig before i knew about this site and before i knew all that other wonderful gear even existed. Poured 200$ into the hardware alone and used them for maybe a few weeks before i went with an eGo, and then with a lavatube. Like you, I do give that mall kiosk one credit though, it got me off cigarettes. Your plan to get multiple flavors and not to invest big until you really know what you want is a great plan. A lot of people who just start on ecigs want the flavor of their brand of cigarettes and nothing else. They usually just get frustrated because they cant find that. If you are willing to go out there and experiment with all the wonderful flavors that are available, youre way ahead of the curve!

The way i see these things is that there are 3 pieces of the puzzle: First the battery: the ones that look like analogs, small battery, small power. Then there are the middlin ones, eGo, e-power, K-go, stuff like that. They are awesome units and lots of people are happy there for a long while. They have much better battery life and a stronger hit. Then there are the mods. There are a bajillion mods, depending on what you want. You can get bottom feeders, variable voltage, tube mods, box mods, flashlight mods, etc. For me it took using the eGo for a while to decide what features i really really wanted in a mod. Second, the atty: There are atties, cartos, clearos, tanks, a bajillion choices there too. I had to go through a lot of different ones to find what i liked best. Third, the juice: Without a delicious juice, what good is all the rest? And there are a lot of good ones out there, and a lot that you just wont like for whatever reason.

I think its so worth the effort so good luck!

For your next step I would recommend something like an ego system with cartomizers .
It has a manual button and the battery ( 650mAh or 900mAh) will see you thru the day.
Th great thing is that with the ego battery is you can try various different combinations (atromizers , cartomizers etc.)
Thanks everyone for the replies! I agree with the above, I will probably go that route sooner or later, after I have a few more weeks of Vaping under my belt. :)

there is no wrong step in vaping. just find what works for you to stay off analogs. Most people take a similar path in our vaping quest. (minis, ego, MODS) if you use a super mini for 5 years and don't smoke that was an awesome choice.

Good for you barbee.

For me I needed something that would get me thru an entire day (and them some) without charging so I needed something with a heftier battery.
Then I discovered LR and High Voltage and there is no turn back.

but you are correct . If you what you vape satisfies you that stick with it.

That's ok because it's always good to have a backup in case your main PV needs repairs, etc. The problem lies in many not upgrading far enuff and ending spending $$ on basically the same kits before they finally buy a Mod. Ask anyone that's upgraded to a Mod and they will give very positive feedback and tell you their vaping experience has increased 10 fold.

RobW,

I would think about ordering something like this sooner than later. It's quite a bit of work keeping batteries and cartos full on something like a Blu.

KGO 1100 mAh 2 battery kit

or

RIVA 510 1100 mAh Manual Starter Kit | Electronic Cigarette | Neusmoke

Both great prices with (2) 1100 mAh batteries for under $45!

Not only will the batteries last 4 times longer between charges, and you'll need to fill cartos half as frequent, but the vapor will be better than the Blu.

Good Luck!

For every one person who buys a "Blu" and then has the good sense to come here and find a good beginner model like Rob, unfortunately there are about 50+ (probably more) who decide the poor inconsistent performance of the Blu is just not worth the trouble, figure vaping is another scam and go back to smoking. If Blu would put a tenth of their marketing budget into providing a better model, they would actually do some good, instead of just make a boat load of money.

Rob if you buy from a store, i would recommend that you make sure whatever you buy has preferrably a 510 fitting. That way you will have lots of options of different gadgets and cartos, etc. that will screw onto that.

Thanks for that heads up! I've read that elsewhere and when I do go start looking I will make sure of it.

If you're patient wait for sales and when buying from ECF listed vendors look for discount codes. Some offer discounts anywhere from 10- 35% off. E-Liquid and Electronic Cigarette Shop - Category Listings for instance has everyday 20% off discount (top of page) but sometimes even cheaper can be found. A Chinese co just recently gave free Indulgence 3.7V Starter Kit with orders over $100.00.

Rob, sounds like you are doing your research and taking it slow. That is good. There are a lot of benefits in moving up in size, mostly in battery performance. You could also explore variable voltage, etc. You will get a lot of opinions on all of these, but the most important thing is that it keeps you off of the analogs. Keep researching, asking questions, and coming here. Good luck! :)
