It's not just about money. It's about power. And the fact that they know better than you silly ignorant masses.
I believe 2 things about the government.
1. The things they do behind closed doors would disgust you.
2. The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. -Thomas Jefferson

... and Winston Churchill said that there are two things the general population should never witness:

1. The making of sausages
2. The passing of laws

Howdy,

Its a money game, that's all it is really.
100,000 hectors of land are dedicated to tobacco crops in the US, the overall tobacco market is worth 20 billion dollars. Put that in to prespective of kick backs and taxes for the government which is a sizeable chunk of money, an estimated 450,000 metric tons of tobacco is produced in the US. (http://www.who.int/tobacco/en/atlas16.pdf)

We as vapors are quickly climbing the rung to endanger that little nest egg the government has and they know it, lets take in to some facts here.

Currently between the patches, gum and drugs there is no measurable percentage of people quitting smoking.
An estimated 75% success rate thus far has been recorded from vaping (yes, that's a reduction of 75% income from taxes and bribes to the politicians).

Smoking is a known carcinogen which the drug companies make billions on medications to fight cancer.
Vaping has not been known to have any carcinogenic compounds in the vapor.

I could go on further but there are tons more facts thus far. It boils down to the government and several very power industries are going to loose a lot to vaping and the government knows it. If you have lived any time in the US then you know that the government will respond with force first before peace talks will ever take place and currently this is what is happening. They are calling their hound dogs (FDA) on the community to sniff out any issues to use against us which then will get translated in to regulation. Please understand that this battle isn't to be taken lightly as the FDA does have the power to make E-Liquid a class controlled substance and PV's a drug delivery device of a class controlled substance (Basically you own a mod, you'll go to jail, same with E-Liquid). So what I guess I'm saying is that we are stepping on the toes of some pretty powerful folks when it comes to it all.

Until we the people stop looking at government as a be all, end all to all our problems, we will continue to get what we deserve. Point being, every time something happens the first reaction heard is "there ought to be a law against that." Well they give us a new law which is a negative freedom.

Our founders would be ashamed of us today as we allow this government to control our lives.I would recommend everyone in the US to watch the three part mini series that just aired on History Channel "Sons of Liberty." There is a lot of stuff that went on in that time that parallel today. The difference was in that time they had no rights as they were just Colonists; not having any representation in England or here at home. They rose up against unjust taxation and laws. They gave us a government of We the People not we the subjects of an overbearing government.

Somehow over the years we gave up on that and gave power to those that would control us. Just look at how many Senators, Congresspeople, and people in government on the state or local levels have been in power for 20+ years. These people want nothing more than power (which equals money in many cases) and would be better known as the ruling class. However, we were not meant to have a ruling class. So until we the people take power back, we get what we deserve.
Well said.

And I have that whole series on DVD now.
But I haven't watched it yet because I'm too busy trying to catch up on other things.

Like American Idol, Sleepy Hollow, Elementary, Master Chef Junior, Grimm, and the like.
But I'll get there, I promise.
:)

I'd just like to say I've yet to meet the politician I didn't have the utmost admiration and respect for.

I'd like to say that, but I'm just not that big of a liar.
I truly believe that many people go into politics for the right reasons.
But they don't get very far in the "system" unless they compromise their integrity.

I'm just going to leave this here....

“The fact is that the government, like a highwayman, says to a man: Your money, or your life...The government does not, indeed, waylay a man in a lonely place, spring upon him from the road side and, holding a pistol to his head, proceed to rifle his pockets. But the robbery is none the less a robbery on that account; and it is far more dastardly and shameful. The highwayman takes solely upon himself the responsibility, danger, and crime of his own act. He does not pretend that he has any rightful claim to your money, or that he intends to use it for your own benefit. He does not pretend to be anything but a robber...Furthermore, having taken your money, he leaves you as you wish him to do. He does not persist in following you on the road, against your will; assuming to be your rightful 'sovereign,' on account of the 'protection' he affords you.”

You would be amazed if you knew how far you could get with a few 100 mil for bribes... If i told you to make a few typo's at work and waved 10mil infront of you, you would most likely reply "what font would you like?"

Now if i waved 100mil and asked you to make a paper/file disappear... Wouldnt you ask "fire or water damage?"... Most people would... And the tobacco and pharma industries has a whole lot of money and alot more to lose

I don't disagree with you, i just don't understand what your statement has to do with my post...

I absolutely believe that as well, although I would change "many" to "some", and have known a handful that did just that. A couple even left politics rather then become what was expected of them and I do respect them for that. And I will stop with that rather then risk getting too deep into the political discussion.

I wanted to go into politics at one point in my life, until I found out how it works.

TGWG,

You, sir (yes,my assumption... I know... I know) are one of the very few anymore that knows and believes in what that means. We now have a generation or two that would rather suckle from the federal hog's teats than stand up for our FFFFF (Founding Fathers' Fight For Freedom)!

Bob Dylan summed this up when he was only 21...............

"You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks"

Back to the OP, I am surprised this was started by someone in the UK because although a couple of years ago there was a lot of negativity against vapers this has now decreased. I believe this is because of the very positive report by the Royal collage of Surgeons and by a lot of other medical professionals on how Vaping is saving lives, and helped by the fact that we do not grow tobacco. There is still a lot of negativity but over here but I believe vapers are winning the argument!

As for the USA, I have read on here some very nasty attitudes in some states towards vapers, as has already been pointed out, this has nothing to do with saving lives and everything to do with the huge taxes on tobacco, money is what they want.

I think the war on vapers will subside when they have worked out how to poison the third world with tobacco, and they will!
