Thank you for contacting me to express your thoughts on electronic cigarettes...Your opinion is very important to me, and I appreciate the opportunity to respond to you.

As you know, the Family Smoking Prevention and tobacco Control Act (P.L. 111-31) gives the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) the authority to regulate cigarettes, cigarette tobacco, smokeless tobacco, and other tobacco products...I was a cosponsor of this legislation because it provides the FDA with the authority to take the necessary steps to reduce underage tobacco use.. This law permits the FDA to regulate electronic cigarettes as a tobacco product, but the FDA has yet to exercise this authority.

Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States, and the best way to prevent tobacco deaths is to reduce tobacco use and prevent tobacco addiction...Please know that I will keep your support for electronic cigarettes and their role as an alternative to traditional cigarettes in mind should I have the opportunity to consider this issue in the future.

Gotta love livin' in Jersey....talking to the pols just gets the standard "save the children" and "talk to the hand" response to actual science and studies. Maybe we can convince them to ban ice cream flavors to "save the children" from obesity...

Why the lecture about Tobacco? E-cigs do not have Tobacco!

This is what I think of every single time I see e-cigs (EVEN WITH NO NICOTINE!) referred to as tobacco products.

BAN DIHYDROGEN MONOXIDE!
Dihydrogen monoxide is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and kills uncounted thousands of people every year. Most of these deaths are caused by accidental inhalation of DHMO, but the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide do not end there.

Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Symptoms of DHMO ingestion can include excessive sweating and urination, and possibly a bloated feeling, nausea, vomiting and body electrolyte imbalance. For those who have become dependent, DHMO withdrawal means certain death.

Dihydrogen monoxide:

· is also known as hydroxl acid, and is the major component of acid rain.
· contributes to the "greenhouse effect."
· may cause severe burns.
· contributes to the erosion of our natural landscape.
· accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals.
· may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes.
· has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients.

Contamination is reaching epidemic proportions!

Quantities of dihydrogen monoxide have been found in almost every stream, lake, and reservoir in America today. But the pollution is global, and the contaminant has even been found in Antarctic ice. DHMO has caused millions of dollars of property damage in the midwest, and recently California.

Despite the danger, dihydrogen monoxide is often used:

· as an industrial solvent and coolant.
· in nuclear power plants.
· in the production of styrofoam.
· as a fire ......ant.
· in many forms of cruel animal research.
· in the distribution of pesticides.
· as an additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products.

Even after washing, produce remains contaminated by this chemical.

Companies dump waste DHMO into rivers and the ocean, and nothing can be done to stop them because this practice is still legal. The impact on wildlife is extreme, and we cannot afford to ignore it any longer!

The American government has refused to ban the production, distribution, or use of this damaging chemical due to its "importance to the economic health of this nation." In fact, the navy and other military organizations are conducting experiments with DHMO, and designing multi-billion dollar devices to control and utilize it during warfare situations. Hundreds of military research facilities receive tons of it through a highly sophisticated underground distribution network. Many store large quantities for later use.

Well... no one cares about Tobacco or death cases as well, they just can't find a way (yet) to get money from all those millions what float pass them. And yes, same story in Canada. You can buy nicotine in bottle but not e-juice with 0 ml, because in first case they get there's taxes but not in the second. In Canada its "grey" area of the law, its not illegal but not legal ether, so they just stop all E-cig related product at custom (what includes batteries and tanks, what no how have nicotine in them), just because they can, and they would till they get there part of profit... Its so sad, for a last few years with e-cig quit smoke more ppl then for last 30 years of all Health system tries all together and they do try to stop it.

This is helping people and of course Jersey has to be in the front lines of saving the children. It really makes me sick living here. How hypocritical are we to rant and rave about legalizing pot but so quick to ban ecigs. It's tyrannical.

It seems to me that the Senator has responded pretty well - he's made clear the existing legislation and authority and said that he will keep the supportive words for e-cigs in mind in the future.
It's a typically non-commital response, but it's good to know that your support has been heard. Thanks for taking the time to contact your senator!

I received the same canned response. I didn't even suggest e-cigarettes as a replacement to analogs. I only mentioned that they contain no tobacco and have been key in helping me increase my quality of life. Then I started my stance and requested support through rational legislation.
