>From my blog...

"I am finally quitting smoking and I am excited!!

I finally decided to buy my first setup to start my vaping journey and end my 18-year smoking nightmare WHOOHOO!

Long story short my husband and I go thru a carton of Camel light 99's every 5-6 days. We enjoy the social aspects of smoking. We hate the cost and the death sentence.

When his Dr. said it was time for him to quit and he said "I am ready" I was ecstatic! Been seriously wanting to quit for several years now and knew I couldn't be successful without him. His Dr. recommended an e-cig to help him transition off the cancer sticks. So...

Top 3 things that were most important to my buying decision:

1. Ease of use
2. Value
3. Initial investment

1. Ease of use: I have a stubborn husband that likes what he likes. We have a toddler and a preschooler, my hands are full. I do not want to mess around with liquids or mixing or washing or maintenance. So after many many hours of research I decided that a cig look alike with cartomizers would be the only way to go. For us. Keep'n it simple.

2. Value: In choosing to go the way of cartomizer at first it looked like a basic "subscription style" purchase (like razors). Buy a device and be a slave to the proprietary refills. Even though it seems like it will cost half the price of what I spend on smokes for the refills,I wanted to make sure I got it right.

I learned that many batteries (KR808D-1 style) are compatible with other cartridges. Yay! So I am not at the mercy of one "supplier". Now can I find something that isn't a p.o.s I need it to last at least 6 months. Looks like a lot of ppl have this battery as a emergency back-up as well.

3. Initial Investment: I cannot afford to spend more than what my current cigarettes cost in order to get started. I realized we would need at least one battery and charger for each of us and enough carts to get us about two weeks worth. My budget was the cost of two of my cartons $93.

Looked at starter kits, looked at ala-carte items all over the web. Found some coupon codes and started my pricing comparison. The best deal I found for us was at v2 cig. With Smokeless Image's Volt in a close 2nd place.

The Couples package: 4 batteries, 2 chargers, 2 wall adapters and 4 5-pack cartridges = $125 but with coupon and site discounts of $19.99 and 24.99 (Valentine's Special) works out to just under $80! My out of pocket is $95 after shipping. BINGO. I know I forked out too much on priority shipping but it is all good my budget was met, I figure if their pre-filled cartridges cost $35 for four 5-packs that means I scored my start-up equipment for about $30 bucks each person I think I got it right.

With two batteries each and the opportunity to purchase future cartridges and flavors thru other vendors and possibly in town, with much anticipation our next chapter begins."

>>Fast forward one month later:

I was completely overwhelmed with the tons of info and new jargon I discovered after coming to this site.

I now understand going with a 510 thread could have overall been a better value, but did not find out much about the sites that sell these until after I fell in love with vaping and subsequently found this forum. They are not easily accessible for a new shopper!

When you google electronic cigarette reviews you are flooded with 808 options more than anything. It is a shame.

I am still overwhelmed I can't shake this feeling that I got the wrong setup, but there are inexpensive adapters also I read of a lot of happy 808 users and have realized that refilling is not as hard or messy as I had imagined.

I read a lot of opinions that the 808 is inferior but I am pleased as can be with mine and would rather have a dozen different color slim batteries than to cart around a big one. That's just me. Just got my husband a SI X2 since the St. Patty's sale at Smokeless Image has the 900mAh pass-thru for under $20!! and he is all good with the "man size" lol. In my opinion 808's have a lot going for them :)

I still have no intention of cleaning cartridges, so we have switched to Clearomizer style the V2 Liqiumax Blanks and the SI CE3 is in the mail. Seems that they lasts longer than a pre-filled and isn't too bulky. I love the ease of just finding something that works well and choosing all the flavors my heart desires. Hooked on vaping and HAPPY as can be! :)

Thanks for your time!

Burndaylight: congrats on being off the stinkies! I am also new only been off cigs 1 week today. You're right there is so much to learn, and its turning out to be a fun journey too! What worked for me in the beginning doesn't work for me now (been vaping about 4 weeks it only off cigs 1). I was a heavy smoker and needed something a bit higher power and higher volume. Keep it up and don't throw out any of your stuff! You can always give it to family or friends who want to try it.

I started with 808 too but learned quickly to upgrade to 510. Just about all the better mods/batts are 510 and as you progress you don't want to buy all new stuff. Only a few suppliers are still into 808 so you are dependent only on those suppliers and their prices. With 510 you can use any supplier and take advantage of sales. I hear good things about the volt but would not use them because of the 808 threads.

808=Beta Max
510=Blue Ray DVD

Beta was great, it was the first digital video device. But it was railroaded due to lack of options and overpricing due to compitition (vhs) being able to sell am inferior product at a fraction of the price. Now you have blue rays that you can do anything with and is much superior to any of its predecesors.

A great paralell to the vaping community. Eventually the 510's will be replaced with something better, more efficient and less expensive, untill then imma keep on keepin on the vapers road.

I over analyze everything too. I have been reading and looking, watching videos and checking into everything I am totally consumed!

I hear you and I have decided that I am recommending the 808's to my family anyway. Majority of the 510 websites have so much stuff they are incredibly overwhelming. To me the 808's are an easier way to begin.

Two big reasons I hesitated are that it would be super convenient to order carts or clearos from the same place I grab some juice (oops..We are strictly calling it liquid since we have kids in the house) and the couple places I have found in town do not have 808 supplies either.

But I have no qualms shopping online, I just stocked up on 3 boxes of the SI CE3's for 7.66 a box that is $1.53 ea! and for at least the next two or three months I will not have to pick up anything but my choice of more liquids :)

I don't know if it was as good of a deal as the comparable 510 item would have been. But at this point it doesn't matter. I don't have the time to price match 100+ recommended vendors. I have determined that: If each battery last 6 months and If I can get clearo's for under $2.00 every time, if I were to use each clearo for a week and toss it, my refill cost will be about .60 each mL. For both my husband and I to vape all we want, our daily costs will be less than $3.50. We used to spend over $9 a day. With a $50 a month budget just for liquids, I can spend another $200 on various batteries this year and still not hit $1500. Our smoking cost us $3500 last year alone. I need to put more time on my coupons anyway. I buy everything we eat at rock bottom prices and stock up, my price per each (ppe) on everything I buy at a grocery store is averaging at $1 or less.

I have my eye on a handsome green or light blue or maybe a raspberry volt for spring and I like the idea of a pcc but might go with a portable charger that can work with my KFHD and phone just because they are fun and handy. So excited The Big Savings are coming soon!!!

I decided if my friends and family want to advance they can move forward in any direction they like, at least they are not starting with something that has zero options! I have found at least dozen sites that I have bookmarked with 808 items. Plus aren't we all spending money that would have been up in smoke and in a big .... can anyway. I have to keep that it in perspective.

Yea I'm real bad at over analyzing everything too but yea not this time
I have been going through the same thing since I decided to do the switch. I finally decided just make a decision right or wrong. My first starter kit is in the mail. I am bad about over analyzing things to the point that I do nothing. Not this time.[/QUOTE]

Congrats I have not yet received me joyetech ecab starter kit in the mail but I've been off regular cigs or analog for one month todaybut I'm so excited to get it should be here tomorrow or Saturday. I can't wait to get it and show all my friends who smoke and let them see what they should be doing instead of smoking them nasty cigs. :) can't wait to vape I smoke the disposable cigarette now but want my kit

808s are better than 510s in cig a like versions. It's when you go to upgrade that they lose their value as almost no higher end devices use that threading. Nothing a simple adaptor won't fix and who knows you may never need to upgrade.

The only thing you might consider is filling your own cartomizers with better juice. It's really easy using the condom fill method and will not only taste way better, you will save lots of money.

Congrats on quitting I know how hard it is if both partners aren't in it together.
