This is not for sale, I am just showing that using some copper pipe and paper to fix the parts in place anyone can throw a big battery mod together.

Just passed a store that had all those nice copper pipe fittings and thought why not?

And the monster was born:
Li-Ion, 2200mA, 18650 type battery in a copper casing.

It's still in testing so it's not completely sealed yet. Will be completely sealed in the end and will get a matte black painting when testing phase is done.

Charging is done from completely depleted to full charge in 4,5 hours with an external USB adapter. Just charge it overnight without opening it.
Any e-cig USB charger can be used with an adapter but it will take 10hours+
Anyway you can build two and let one charge. Heck, for 100$ you can make 5 of them.

Materials:
1 pc 22mm copper pipe (~10cm long) the piece that holds the battery
1 pc 15mm copper pipe (3-8cm long) the piece that covers the atty partly
1 pc 22mm copper pipe end piece that closes the tube and holds a spring
1 pc 22-18mm adapter that holds the button
1 pc 18-15mm adapter that holds the atty connector
1 button / switch
1 spring
1 battery adapter
cost ~20$

Not the best paint job I've ever done but I now know that matte black is not my favourite :D

Looks great!!

I've thought about using copper myself as it is super easy to find, cut, glue, solder.

I have read in the forum however, that there are bad fumes associated with copper and using it in this type of heating environment. I realized the heat isn't all that much and short lived but wouldn't want to be sucking up bad things along the way.

Do you know of any such issues?

Nice work.
I'm guessing that's silver solder on the bottom seam?
How long does that battery last you?
Do you have a hole in the bottom for the charger connector?

Yes, silver solder just tried it. It was a new battery, never charged and lasted 5 hours without a drop in vapor production, then I let it charge overnight. A 900mAh lasts me for 10ml of juice so this one should be good for at least 20ml.

I prefer counting in ml then in hours as everyone vapes differently.

At the 60C that an atomizer has when used I doubt any fumes could be released from the copper.
If it is used in homes for hot water (more then 60C) then I have no problems with it.

Wow - now that's one I can build... Off to Home Depot!
The parts list is great, thanks for the break down!

My pleasure! I'll try to take some more pics of the innards.

Copper- looks pretty cool shined up too! The whole thing kinda has an Art Decco- 1930"s feel to it- Very Nice!

Let's see some more pics- internals charging? usb?

Just swa the video- so that how u charge it- very cool- interesting too- never seen that done.

Thanks for the kind words. I just hope more people will be able to do this at home, it's relly easy.

Besides the parts list I've used a drill and a soldering iron.

If you are going to take more pics - how about a close up of that USB Charger thingie? :) I never had thought of "Reverse Charging" a battery!

You can use any USB charger sold for normal e-cigs also, just couple it with a manual battery adapter so you'll be able to screw it in the copper mod.
The small USB charger is ripped of another project of mine but I can't talk here about it.

I LOVE this method for stating batt life.
I think we should push for this as the standard measure.

How snugly does that 18650 fit into the 22mm tubing?

Pipe is 22mm in diameter with a 1mm wall thikness, so inner diameter is around 20mm. Protected 18650 batts are a little thicker then 18mm so there is around 1mm space.

not to rain on your parade, but the pipe design has been done...

That's why I called it my take on a copper mod :D
There are many variations, this is just one of them.

Good job
I like the little button

I like small buttons too, will post pictures with it inside soon.
