I just made one Git. Works great, thanks for the idea! The only improvement I made was to affix the spring to the roof on the inside the top cap so no reliance on wrapping the batt to retain it. Makes batt swapping eaisier and saves the plastic wrap on my batts.

Is there any way you could post a picture of what you mean by this? Is the other end of the spring pushing off of the end of the battery?

Here's what I've got together so far. I'm waiting on the battery and connector to come in. I got brass plugs instead of copper end caps so that I could put an over sized spring inside of the plug and stretch the other end of the spring to be snug on the inside of the copper coupling--this way it both holds the plug on and gives it a great button feel. It moves freely and smoothly--not too springy, not too tight.

I like the brass look too! Where did you get the supplies to make this one - HomeDepot, Lowes? Do you have a parts list? Also what is that dark brown piece in the first pic? A video of this in action when your parts come in the mail would be nice!!!!! Great work! Thanks for posting. Hoping to see more pics when it's done.

I got the parts from Home Depot. The black tube sitting there is heat-shrink tubing that I'm using as a sleeve for the battery. They have this in the electrical isle. You will need to cut and stretch the spring until it has a tight fit inside of the coupling and fits along the edge of the copper tubing thats inside of the coupling (so it has something to compress on). I'll post a video with some detailed explanations.

Pipe Cutter
3/4" Copper Tube
3/4" Copper Coupling (x2)
3/4" Brass Plug (x2)
Compression Springs (hardware isle, I think)
Heatshrink Tubing (the big ones, but not the thick walled ones)

I like the brass edition, don't those make it kinda heavy though?

The brass is actually a lot lighter than the copper itself, just not as conductive. Which I'm not sure if that will be a problem yet or not.

I didn't even notice people were posting in here... lol

This forum is a little dodgy with alerting of posts. JiveFly that mod looks awesome. I posted in your thread as well. Im gonna check out those end plugs. I was looking for something like that originally but couldn't find anything at Lowe's. I'll definitely try Home Depot...

Yup. Short piece of rod through the center of the battery connector with shrink wrap on it then its held centered with the hot glue. I'll replace the hot glue with epoxy at some point but I couldn't find the tube I thought I had...

Great mod but I am a mod dummy and dont understand "short piece of rod through the center of the battery connector" do you have a photo of that part? thanks

WOW!!!! Yer the man!!! Well, now I have another reason to go to the city for a trip to Lowes :) Thanks for the shopping list too! Very helpful.

Your list for Lowes is getting quite large Alan. Make sure you get a big shopping cart before enter the store and don't forget your credit card.

I want to make one, but dont want to have to buy like 12 feet of pipe. Can you buy a cut peice or do people just sell full lengths?

I'm with you!!! I went to the local Ace and they only sold in 10 ft lengths (for almost 30 bucks!!) .. wish Lowes would open a store less than 100 miles away!

Wow! My ace hardware sold me a 6" piece of 1/2" for $.75. Did you ask someone? They had it in the back.

Yah, I asked, our local Ace isn't very helpful, they said 30 bucks for a 10 ft stick of 3/4" .. no we don't sell short pieces!

Guess I can ask a local plumber, bet I can get scraps, brainstorm!!!!
