Well, this morning I was in my way to the office and once I got to the parking lot theres was this lady, driving her car on the way out of the parking lot.

What basically happened was that as she was driving her car and as soon as she look at me with me PV in my mouth producing all that vapor, she stared at me for about 5 seconds, and didnt even see where she was going. She was stunned looking at me and my PV (Riva SE 510).

I wonder why she was wondering at that moments (lol). But that was funny because she was like stunned or like having a big question mark on her head trying to figure out what I was doing with that silver/shiny thing in my mouth that was not a cigarette but was producing clouds of "smoke" (vapor as we know....)

I have to admit that I was kinda uncomfortable with the situation, I mean theres nothing wrong with it but most of the times people are looking at me like they never seen that before. (I am assuming that most of the people didnt actually).

I bet that you guys go through the same situation in the daily basis as well right?

Tell your experiences here... I am sure that we will find really funny stories and situations :D

People often stare simply because they see something that
is not expected or don't understand. Sometimes people
stare because they are trying to signal their disapproval.

I now totally ignore such behavior. However, when I first
started vaping and noticed someone staring...I would
smile and wave at them as if they were a long lost friend

Most would immediately turn their head away. However,
sometimes they would wave back with a confused look
on their face wondering where they the knew me from.
:p

Reverse psychology :2cool:

The more they see us vaping, the more they will recognize what it is. Curiosity leads them to talk about what they saw and someone will tell them it's an electronic cigarette. A What??? Then, they will get their answer and understand the concept.

Prior to that time, they will talk about the druggy in the parking lot wearing a coat and tie.

I vape on homemade box mods, usually with clearomizers (syringe) or DCC tanks, and if I'm using an atty a DoD (drip on demand top feeder). I'm way too old to give a flying .... what anyone thinks, or what reaction they may have, not my concern. I vape a 50/50 mix of PG/VG so the clouds of vapor are about double what a normal cigarette smoke can produce, and loving it!! ....

18 months and no cigs...:)

I was sitting in the hallway of my college the other day, waiting for the previous class to end so I could sit down in my classroom. (My profs have all OK'd vaping in class, actually, and the admin is supportive of it too.) One of my old profs walked by and did an alarmed double take when she saw vapor coming out of my mouth. She turned on her heel, came back and said "Shana... what, what is that?" I quickly explained and she gave an audible sigh of relief. She says, "You know, I thought to myself, 'now she's not the type to be blatantly smoking on a non-smoking campus' and thought that was odd." She was completely ok with it after I explained, it was just funny to see and hear her response. (For the record, I usually discreet vape in public, but that had been quite a hefty throat hit and some escaped me.)

I don't pay attention to people staring at me.. I commonly speak to crowds of 60+ people, after doing that for awhile its become something I'm used to and don't even notice anymore. However I do get stopped a lot to ask what it is, after I explain people are generally accepting of the practice especially since it doesn't stink up the air.

I work in the healthcare industry where smoking and vaping are banned from the building ontop of smelling of smoke being a sign of not taking your job seriously. Since it's banned in the building there is a painted yellow line on the roof of the parking garage where 5-10 people in a building of 300 smoke at regularly. I vape there periodically throughout the work day so I encounter the same people a lot.

The first time I was vaping at this job I saw this older gentlemen go to his car, grab a thick robe, put on some latex gloves, and his mini cigar. He came back out of his car to behind the yellow line and stood next to me while I was vaping my eGo. After a few seconds of awkward silence he turned and looked at me saying.

"That looks a hell of a lot easier."

yesterday i was waiting for the traffic light to change and i was vaping with my rev2. this lady was waiting to turn and she took a long hard look at my pv (i just fed it, so i was waiting a bit for it to wick), then made eye contact. we were only a few feet away, so it was pretty easy to notice all this. i acknowledged her interest, then pointed at my eyes, then the road. the look on her face was pretty much priceless.

I wonder why she was wondering at that moments (lol).

Being an early adopter is kind of like being a time traveler.
Someone using a PV is still to most people these days what someone carrying an electric lantern would be to George Washington. There's something familiar going on but it's not quite right.
The common response to something so alien is to just shut down as the brain loops around trying to come up with some explanation for the craziness they're seeing to decide what emotional response it should be expressing at the moment.

Well, that's what you did to that woman. In her understanding of the universe, you were doing something crazy like smoking a tube of masquera.

Really, I could give a rip if people stare it doesn't happen that often. They're just curious. If they are close enough, I'll sometimes explain what I'm doing.

I did have one pretty funny incident. Like Stosh I use a DOD at home and on long trips. It's an outlandish looking set up. It's kind of cumbersome for out and about though. Anyway I was on a 10 hour drive vaping away and a carload of young men pulled up beside me and started giving me thumbs up. :)
