E-cigs banned at my work

It was banned where I worked a few years ago when I introduced my coworkers to vaping. The supervisor, who smokes, ragged everyone about how ridiculous they look, how bad ecigs are and how nicotine is being exhaled in the vapor. Of course she banned them and we were all banished to go outside to the smoking area. No matter how much literature she was shown she wouldn't change her mind. We figured out she is just a ....* and didn't want us doing something she was unwilling to try and her access to gossip had decreased too much since many of the vapers were no longer going outside with her to smoke.

I don't work there anymore...

It might get to the point where I don't work there anymore either... hell, if I lived closer to any job opportunities, I'd already be gone quite honestly.

Here is how I look at. At my work you are not supposed to smoke at all in the building. Well you go into the compressor room in the winter and you will find smokers back there puffing away. When I started to work at my place of work I made myself not smoke at work. ( being the only female at the time I didn't want to smell like smoke) And there was a few times during the summer if I was having a stressful day you might find me outside taking a smoke break. It didn't happen much but it did happen. Now that I have quit and vape I still don't vape at work. I did stellar vape one day during a stressful day. But I only took one huge hit. LOL It sucks. Right now MN is trying to pass a band on e-cig smoking indoors today actually. I am sure it will pass. It sucks. Hang in there everyone! We will overcome someday I feel it in my bones!!

P.S. The guys that smoke in the compressor room stink sometimes and I am not talking about BO LOL!

I guess that's one way to look at it. The other way is to realize that I've been vaping for just over 5 years and have become so accustomed to doing it basically anywhere, anytime, that I find it crazy to not be able to do it now. I know I might be a little spoiled now, but I'm just used to it.

I work in I.T. and we have a server room that only our team is allowed in, and it's right down the hall. So, basically if it gets real bad with people complaining (as I TOTALLY plan on still doing this at work, maybe just a little bit less obvious) then I'll just go in there every time I feel like vaping.

I really hope you're right that we'll overcome though, but with the political correctness and liberalism in this country today, I just don't feel like we have any personal liberties anymore. I mean, 50+ FEET near a building and you can't vape? That's just crazy. That's not what they said to me, but others in this thread and elsewhere have claimed that.

Bummer...

But their place, their rules. No matter how silly or illogical they may be.

A sad fact, that there's still way too many people out there who get their kicks out of making other people miserable...

Hop you find another work place soon...and let's hope they are bit more easygoing there

totally agree man, If I ran the place, I'd like to be able to set my own rules as well. Thanks, I've been looking for a few months, I just made the stupid decision to live far away from any city due to the cost of my home, and now I'm paying for it in lack of available well-paying jobs that are close enough. We'll see.

I work in the food industry, we were able to blow clouds as long as we weren't in site of cameras. My managers were iffy on it and as long as nobody saw they didn't care. Then our franchise decided to ban them, and you know what? That's fine.
Nobody has a gun to your head and is forcing you to work there. I will admit it sucks royal, but it's not my house and imo it's downright unprofessional. That's not to say I'm not on a bathroom stall for a vape break but I understand where they're coming from.

One thing that does upset me is technically we have to be 150 feet from the premise for e cigarettes and only 50 for analogs, but I get it.

The average customer understands what a cigarette is, but what the hell is that guy over there doing? We as humans are scared of what we don't know and that's not going to change.
There will be a day when I'm able to stand 50ft away but until then I await for e cigs to become more socially acceptable ;business is run on the premise that you have a good image.

My company has a smoking deck outside with .... cans for the smokers.

Many people vape right in their cubicles including me. All the supervisors and managers allow it, but I don't think there is an official policy on it.

There very well could come a day when vaping is not allowed in the building, but for now it seems to be ok. If it does happen, I'll just start going outside.

Ecigs were just banned at my workplace last week..... Can still use them, but, now have to go to an outside designated area.

Copy of email I received from HR when I questioned the policy...

"I know several individuals who have moved over to e-cigarettes and I applaud anyone who can make that transition to a healthier lifestyle. At the same time, we need to be cognizant of those around us. This policy change is in accordance with many ***** (company name deleted) facilities. You may still use your e-cigarette; however, you will need to follow the policy guidelines on locations."

At least they recognize the healthier lifestyle part.....

I know it stinks, my work is in the process of going smoke free and they are including e-cigs with tobacco products. They want us to sign a paper saying we won't smoke on property, including e-cigarettes. I have not signed it yet. I may refuse too and see what happens. The day they announced it security was walking around telling everyone and they made a point to look at me and say "This includes e-cigarettes." I was mad to say the least.

If you value your job I wouldn't refuse to sign it as this will only cause adverse actions I'm sure or add an unwanted target on your back. Of course the choice is ultimately yours but I really don't see any good coming from not signing it.

One of the reasons ive worked outside construction jobs for the last ten years is so I could smoke all day long. I feel for you guys traped inside in a corporate environment but it is the path you've chosen. I could never survive in an office, way to pc i would be fired or quit the first day. Good luck guys, i'd be finding a bathroom stall lol

I miss working outside, there was a lot of freedom in it, but I enjoy coming home and not being completely physically exhausted.

E-cigarettes aren't specifically banned from my workplace, but the verbiage is there that they easily could be. It is about the only time in my life where I have been happy to be in a cube farm. I can blow under my monitors or under my desk and as long as no one is walking by my entrance there is nothing to see. Several people have asked me about them too since they know I use one.
I wonder how they would react if they said as a nicotine device they are not allowed, but you went 0mg? It's no more objectionable at that point than having an inhaler or a steaming cup of coffee.

P.S. People equating vaping being unacceptable but BO and passing gas being acceptable as a quandary is hilarious. I'd like to see a company try to put the words together to ban a bodily function...

Quit acknowledging APVs as ECigs folks. They are NOT the same!

they just put out the new smoking policy from HR that includes 'e-cigarettes' we have to be off of company property also, but it is only 25 feet to the public sidewalk from my desk. i'm in a secure room with only about 10 other people and i'm second in command but the boss is a female dog and would fire me on the spot if she saw me vape at my desk. i stealth vape when she is out at meetings though. otherwise i just walk out to the side walk. was a nice 88 degrees here in Arizona yesterday so it's nice until it hits around 118 then you power vape and get the heck back into the AC. you are not allowed to smoke/vape in your private vehicle also since it is on their property!!!

there is a very nice secretive bathroom down the hall that i use some times.

funny though, back in 2005 when i first discovered the 510 with a pass through, vaping at my desk was OK and the old CEO (smoker) wanted to try it..no problem sir, give her a puff! Times change!!!!

Ya for sure, its a trade off the way I see it. You may be tired when you get home but when my work day is over and I take my boots off theres no projects to take home, no emails to anwser and I if I want to work a weekend I can but I can also take 3 day weekends every week which my current job allows me to do. How many office jobs are four days a week? Lol all that being said this winter is neverending -11 right now and wading through 4ft of snow still. A warm dry office would be a lot more comfortable thats for sure
