Since I joined ECF about a year ago I've heard repeated two things that in my experience simply aren't true but since everybody else seems to believe them I've decided to ask.

vaping makes you thirsty - not in the least. It is now 3:30 pm here and so far today I've had one small glass of OJ and a coffee and I've vaped all day and am not thirsty. This is very normal for me inspite of living about 5 degrees north of the equator. I did a bit of reading on this and am now wondering if because I vape max VG this is not really a problem. Anyone else question this?

rda's taste better - I have about 6 different RDA's, mainly popular ones, and about 15 different RTA's, again the popular ones and yet I have never tasted an identifiably better taste with the RDA's over the RTA's. They both have it easily over tanks yes.

I haven't found it dehydrates me or gives me a dry mouth.
As a matter of fact, I found that it seemed to moisturize my throat when I was sick last week and had a sore throat.

My throat was very dry and sore in the mornings until I had my first vape, then it stopped hurting.

My wife (who does not vape) now has the same thing, and she is telling me that her sore throat is one of her main symptoms.

Similarly, when we have a day that's very low humidity and my nasal passages are dry, I have found that exhaling vapor through my nose helps.

E liquid is hygroscopic - it attracts moisture from the air.
I suppose it could also pull moisture from your tissues, but I have not found it to do it to an extent that I notice It.

Glycerin is sold as a skin moisturizer precisely because it is hygroscopic, so I guess it doesn't pull moisture from your skin, rather it pulls it from the air and keeps it on your skin.

Regarding RDA's - I vape unflavored so I don't really have an opinion on that, but I do know that they are a pain in the rear end.
They are way too messy to use in my opinion, I'd rather just fill a tank and forget about it.
I do have one that I use from time to time when I want a really compact setup for stealth.

Dry mouth.. yup, no question about it, not just me either, but everyone that vapes (or at least chain vapes enough) at my house, we all have our water with us if we're vaping away.

Not a myth, you just might not vape hard enough to feel it.

RDAs being better.. no more than some tanks can be better than others. It's all about airflow, deck build, and so on... I went all glass RDAs and my favourite RTA is also a all glass one too, and the difference is HUGE (from metal ones). But between my glass RDA and RTA, no, there isn't much difference, but then these are as good as can get as far as I'm concerned.

So yes, myth, BUT 100% linked to what you use. If you have a crappy RTA, a decent RDA will be way better, and the opposite will also be true.

I also do not get dehydrated from vaping but everyone is different,i cannot vape a lot of VG or Vape flavours since one causes tight chest the other bad acne.

From the posts I have read most are sensitive to PG.
I would say that more people are sensitive or allergic to PG than VG. I'm fairly sure that for most people, the mixture is simply a matter.

Like you, I have that tight chest with high VG.

Nah, it does, it pulls hold moisture from your skin, your sweat and the air, it just holds it on the surface until it's (the VG) is absorbed. But most people usually apply such creams after they washed so it takes in the residual humidity on your skin. And most creams with VG in it, tends to already have enough water already in the mix to saturate it.

In my opinion and my experience with vaping I get dehydrated from vaping and I vape Max or High VG religiously. Maybe just me but I drink a lot more water now that I ever did but it is also healthier for me to drink as much as I do.

The claim that RDA's give better flavor I find totally the opposite because I can reproduce the flavor in one tank to next by using the settings. Although many will argue this until they are blue in the face but that is what I have found and maybe those who drip think it tastes better because I can't figure out how you can chain vape when you need to drip again every full pulls. Maybe they think it tastes better because of the delay caused by needing to drip? :w00t:

Yeah that makes more sense now I think about it.

I don't believe vaping dehydrates us any more than smoking ever did. Yes VG is gyroscopic hygroscopic, but so what? It can only absorb so much water so even if it's dry when we inhale it (which I doubt) it's going to absorb less than its own volume of water. If losing a few ml of water causes anyone noticeable dehydration they have other problems.

I read somewhere that nicotine can have a dehydrating effect on some people, but that would be the same for smoking.

RDA's taste better - I have about 6 different RDA's, mainly popular ones, and about 15 different RTA's, again the popular ones and yet I have never tasted an identifiably better taste with the RDA's over the RTA's. They both have it easily over tanks yes.

IMO this one is a relic from a few years ago. In 2012 the best performing rtas were Genisis atties using SS mesh. They performed very well, but were a pain to set up and maintain. The only way to get a comparable vape was with a dripper. That's what I did for a few years until rtas got good. I haven't dripped or squonked since :)

Where I live the humidity rarely gets above 14%, always windy. I found that due to the climate here (higher elevation) that regardless of vaping a person needs to drink more water than usual. So I think it has to do more with each individual and where they live.

Can but not always. Actually for me it is only occasionally. Chain vaping in the car on the way home from work will get me thirsty maybe once or twice a month.
Chain vaping in the car with the windows up using 80vg is really bad, plus you can't see the road.[emoji2]

Vaping doesn't make you thirsty. Its the drymouth from the sweeteners in commercial juices that suck the moisture out of the mouth thus fooling the brain into thinking your dehydrated so you drink but never seem to be able to quench the thirst, that was my problem. Once I began DIY and not using sweeteners I wasn't thirsty anymore, didn't need to carry around a water bottle and spent much less time in the bathroom pizzing the excess liquid. I do rarely use commercial juices but once in a while I'll try and again I'm back to my old problem of the unquenchable thirst.

Mostly a throat hit loveing 100% PG guy. When I break out the 50 / 50 the windows are open. Wish I could have both...
