Hello Everyone!
I am a long time lurker; 1st post!!

I perform Scientific Research for a living, but in my chosen fields of expertise and vaping is not in my field. This is totally new to me and I have ZERO practical experience so choosing a PV is quite difficult. I have now done soo much research, I am completely confused. Pictures and words can be very deceiving as to: size, weight, draw, power, etc. , so I do not feel qualified to analyze. I know when to go to the EXPERTS!!

I am asking for your help, Based upon criteria; What would be the best PV Starter Kit for me?:
Note: I am now smoking over a pack a day (very expensive and quite harmful to my health). High stress.

1) I would like something Not too bulky. (I am petite and female) And well made.
2) High Volume Fluid containment, so I do not have to change or refill constantly -Cart and atty, Cartos, Ce2-4, Low vs High, Mega, xl -WHAT?
3) NO COLD AIR - I tried an ecig type thing a few years ago and it was cool air - Hated it!
4) I think I would prefer a small whistle type mouth piece - soft if possible and will produce optimal output. Is this a good option??
5) Which mouth pieces fit with what? Can an 808 fit a 510? Does an 808 extra long last longer than a 510 mega?
6) Best Flavor and Vender - tobacco and Teas only for a start, I HATE SWEET Flavors.

7) ADDITIONALLY; I know I want a Pass Through also, It DOES NOT have to comply with travel PV. This will be my primary, as I am in the Lab, Class or Office the majority of my week.

We have a $200.00 limit - Help me find my PV!

Please help, and all suggestions are appreciated!!

3) if you tried something that had cold air it was probably not an e-cig but rather one of the lesser things that let you suck tobacco flavored air through cigarette-look unit - they have flavor capsules or something. I have one of those things somewhere.

4) I think there are whistle tip carts for 510 - not sure

5) 808's do not have mouthpieces. 808 is KR808D-1 and it is a dedicated 2-piece model - battery and cartomizer - and you need a 510 to 808 adapter to use KR8 cartos on a 510. Yes KR8 xl battery lasts longer than 510 mega. Chargewise only... KR8 shorty& 510 standard=180mah, KR8 standard & 510 mega=280mah, KR8 Mega=380mah. I find the standards sufficient and they can be charged (on at a time) in the PCC (XL does not fit in the closed PCC). The super-long battery life KR8 is Elegant Easy from CigEasy.

6) There is no best flavor, and everyone has their own favorite vendors. And flavors differ on different PVs. What tastes great on my weak but tasty M401 could be bland on a hit burning atty. Or may be it would be good with extra flavor added. What reminds me of the cigarettes I smoked might not be someone else's favorite thing about the aroma of cigarettes. Re tea - I think I've seen black tea, at least as a flavoring by Perfumer's Apprentice. I know FreedomSmokeUSA has fruit teas but the one I tried is slightly sweet (Raspberry tea). My favorite non-sweet tobacco is FreedomSmokeUSA Desert Ship, a slightly pungent nutty tobacco that remins me a of a freshly opened pack. My fave vendors - FreedomSmokeUSA and Backwoods Brew.

I'll leave the rest to someone else. I'm a relative newbie and I am not up on the latest cartos or tank systems. I don't have any fat-battery models like Ego so I just recharge batteries all the time. When I am using one I am charging one (or 2 overnight). When I am away from home or work I use a PCC to charge a battery the battery I am not using.

IMO, your #1 requirement is in conflict with most of your other requirements. Does placing it as #1 make it the most important requirement? eGo isn't as big as it looks in pictures though.

So FAST!! Well I do think I would prefer a smaller hand carry. I smoke Capri 120's and they are VERY thin. BUT if you have a recommendation that fits all other criteria - I will definitely consider.

Ego with which attachment??

Do you want it to look like a cigarette with short battery life or do you mind it being a bit bigger but concealable and lasting most to all of the day? I have a post “meet my little friend” it’s a riva lite 510 I received today for $30.00. At Liberty Flights if you like it this is the link for 20% off. Received mine in two days.

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510

if i were you, i'd get both the joye 510 and the ego-t. together they make a great diverse team. the 510 is great and small(by comparison), but the battery life is going to bug you so you'll only use it when you're out and about for show. but believe me, you're not going to mind something a little bigger when you're at home, on your computer, or driving. this is where the ego-t will come in handy. vapor is bigger, better AND there will be no dripping or topping off or changing batteries every hour like you'll do with the 510 and most other small pv's. both units are compatible with eachother so you can interchange parts. but that's just me.

with 200 bucks, you can pretty much have whatever you want

What I should of read before I bought mine was a post that basically said;

Save your time. Save your money. Go big or go home.

It seems that most vapers who actually stick with it go from wanting something that looks like a cigarette to something that looks like a party horn in a matter of a couple of months or less.

I bought the KR808D-1 a week ago and am already eyeballing Ego-T 's ......

Just my :2c:

Even though the EGO/Riva are often called "big battery" units; they are really not that big....u mention a lab environment, how many times have you caught yourself twiddling a "sharpie marker".......the Ego is almost the exact same size, a little shorter. Not really "big" at all. Battery life is excellent. With the new "tank system" it is probably a really good starting point. I have a bunch of Egos, but have not tried the tanks yet. The 510 was my first ecig and filled the bit of having to have an "analog sized" PV until I got over what I expected other people/myself to think. I regularly carry one of my 510s as a backup and my Ego for all day use. You can realistically get both starter kits....510&Ego-T plus a good selection of juices (probably a month worth) and still stay under your $200.00 budget.

For what it's worth (very little I suspect), for 35 years I smoked More Reds, 120s the same physical size as your Capris. But, I'm not female. Nonetheless, I carried five different PVs to work one day and held them in my hand for several female co-workers to see. They unanimously chose the eGo as the best looking device in the group, which included several smaller devices.

So far as 'attachment' is concerned. That may take some experimentation on your part to find what suits you best. I started out with the KR808D-1 using cartomizers (a carto, which is a single unit containing both the atomizer and a supply of juice).
Cartomizers are now available for 510 fittings as well, including the eGo-Type. But, after a period of months I found I enjoyed dripping. For simplicity, you can't beat the cartomizer system for a two piece PV.

Nice to see you're getting a lot of responses. Folks here at ECF are eager to help, great bunch. It's good you found your way here before you bought some kind of junk.

EDIT: I should add this. Very soon after I switched away from cigarettes I came to relish the fact that my PVs did NOT resemble cigarettes. Combined with the fact that present battery technology doesn't permit satisfactory performance to any but the lightest smokers in a cigarette replica. Form follows function, and you just need a battery which is larger than half a cigarette to do the job.

If you have never tried any e cigs at all you might want to order a Green Smoke just to get an idea what some of the smaller ecigs do. Green Smoke has a FULL money back guarantee. If you dont like it you can return it for a full refund. They are very good about their refunds, easy to do and fast. Just a thought to get you started. Good luck with the search. Post back when you decide.

Just a thought - you say you hate sweet flavors but keep this in mind. The tongue can only sense sweet, sour, bitter, salty and umami which has something to do with MSG. Out of all of those, sweet or sweet/sour are the flavors that are most found in ejuices. Without one of those 5 tastes, your tongue won't taste much of anything and the aroma will be all you have. Cigarettes bathe you in their odor but you have to actually remember to let your nose get a whiff of vapor. I found more and more that I appreciated a bit of sweet in a juice so my tongue has something interesting too. I started by occasionally adding a bit of a nice non-icecreamy vanilla (Backwoods Brew Vanilla Bean) or some chocolate or so FreedomSmokeUSA oRYental 4 (sweet caramelly vanilla tobacco) to my non-sweet tobaccos, just to vary the flavor and make it more complex. I started doing that more and more and now I am vaping Vanilla Bean all day, with some chocolate and some oRYental for variety.

Most cigarettes have sugar or honey and cocoa in them. I've checked all the ones I have ever smoked and they all do. So maybe that is why those flavors are satisfying.

Your criteria is somewhat similar to what mine was when I first started vaping a year and a half ago, and still is.

I have the M401, the JSB-118, the M601, the 510 with regular and LR cartos, the eGo XL cone (Type A) with 650 mAh batteries, and the eGo-T.

My recommendation if you want to stick with a smaller size is the M601. IMHO, it has better throat hit and flavour than the other mini-cigs. The vapour is still substantial, but not as much as the 510. (I'm not a fan of the 510, unless with a LR carto, but even then... I think it's pretty useless.) The battery life and cart size is also a little larger, it does come in an XL cart/atty option as well as auto or manual batteries. I've used the M601 for a year now, and up until now, have had little desire to switch. I smoked B&H 100's and the size is comparable... just a little longer/same diameter. It also comes with a "Smart PCC", so charging isn't as much of an issue.

All that being said, IF you can handle a slightly larger PV, I think your best bet will be the eGo XL or eGo-T Tank system with 650 mAh batteries. It is, as someone else mentioned, about the size of a Sharpie and has considerably longer battery life, with drastically less need for refilling or modding carts. It is also a whistle tip, like you mentioned you preferred.

ETA: The whistle tip isn't "soft", but it's not as hard as the whistle tip you'd find on a cigarillo.

You can get a P/T for either PV.

HTH, and as always YMMV!

I have been reading all the answers from all the others, and mine is same.I'm an older women I smoked 52 years, longest I was with out was 14 days,My first e-cig was intelliecig that have a longer life batt. but not long like my ego mega, plus it was like sucking on a straw that was pluged up.My ego is giving me the vape I got from my 100's I smoked, but I still haven't found the burning ashtray taste I was hooked on (LOL) I have found the WOW flavor of Cinnaboom (love that stuff) once-in-while I do want a analog taste so I have sample size of one called wins/ton also have one called New/Port (I don't even like menthol but do with vaping).Anyway I smoked one cig 2 days after I started vaping and haven't smoked sense Aug. 1st.Trust me, save money go ego or ego mega. Good luck

I also smoked Capri's (not the 120's tho). They are THIN. I started with a Joye 510 and within a week went to an eGo USB Passthrough. I still have the 510 with about 6 extra batteries, a pcc, and lots of atomizers/carts, but just never use them, even when I'm out.

I love the PT because I can vape it while sitting at the computer, in the car (with a USB adapter for a cigarette lighter) or unplug entirely and walk around.

I've tried many carts/attys (all whistle tips BTW), and then went to empty XL cartos (also whistle tip) that I liked best. Until I got my eGo T (tank) system. LOVE it! Easy, no mess, just wonderful.

You can get the eGO PT (or any eGo kit) in a 650 mAH or a 1000 mAh. If you decide to go with an eGo, get the 1000 mAh. The battery life is longer and it works better with most cartos, the tank, etc.

Good luck!

Just how long does this $200 budget need to last?

If you decide to stay with vaping, you WILL need juice and most likely quickly (like in your first order quick). On your budget I would be looking at either a KR808 and/or an eGo.

It all comes down to whats most important to you.
Long battery life? Go with an eGo (or a Riva 510 for that matter)
Does it HAVE to be an automatic battery? KR808 (my personal experience was that I though I really wanted an automatic and now I much prefer the manual).

Good luck on finding what works for you.

Cheers,
VMS

I haven't seen anyone mention the Boge Leo here yet. That would satisfy your wishes for a soft whistle tip and USB passthrough (vape while you charge the battery), reportedly great flavor and vapor production, and large-capacity juice cartridges. The cartridge and atomizers are unique to the Leo, so there'd be no confusion about to which type to get, the carts are large and hold a lot of juice, and reviews so far suggest the atty seems rather long-lived as well, and suited to dripping if you ever get into that method (standard "drip tips" reportedly also fit fine in place of the Leo carts' whistle tip).

Size is larger than an ersatz-cigarette-styled "mini" or "super-mini" style but, as others have said here, well worth it for a long battery lifespan between charges. The Leo is comparable in size to an eGo setup with Mega battery, which is smaller than a dime in diameter, about the size of a Sharpie marker but perhaps a bit longer (non-Mega std. eGos are almost exactly Sharpie-sized).

The typical Leos have a bit of "bling" to their style, with gold metal trim, a jeweled endcap over the USB passthrough port on the end, and various finishes available in glossy black, pearl silver, titanium/bronze, metallic red, or marbled tan (sometimes called a "wood" or "cigar" pattern, but I don't see the resemblance):

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...apin-cape-wonderful-not-quite-perfect-pv.html

If you'd prefer something more understated, VaporNine had a custom run of eGo-styled Leos made, with a matte-black rubber-textured finish and silver trim, and no jewel on the endcap, which they're calling the "Vapor Cannon":

Our own legendary DonDaBoomVape also has some late-breaking Leo shopping tips here:

As for well-crafted juice flavors, the UK-produced Decadent Vapours line carried by Totally Wicked seem well-received, with many flavors that aren't terribly or at all sweet:
D.V Premier Range E.Liquid / Totally Wicked eLiquid
TW's "Black Label" line are tobacco-style flavors apparently also developed by Decadent Vapours:
T.W. Black Label Tobacco E.Liquid / Totally Wicked eLiquid
Check (or request) some reviews in their subforum here:
DecadentVapours

Coming from a pack+ daily analog habit, you'll probably want to start with fairly high strength (say, ~18-24mg/ml), so you don't hit nic withdrawal too hard while transitioning to vapor, then you can gradually ease off the strength on subsequent juice orders if you wish. I only ever had a few cigs/day, the occasional pipe or cigar, and hadn't smoked at all for a few months before I started vaping, and ~11mg seems a fine strength for me; I'd only go lower if I wanted to vape a LOT without overdoing it on nic dosage.

Just my .02 - I started vaping with disposables, quickly realized I liked it but they were extremely lacking. Purchased an eGo-T with PT as my first 'real' pv. Wow. Simply great and I'm probably spoiled for now. That being said, last night I ran up to Good Prophets (which is local to me but a lot of ecf order online from) and I picked up a 510 w/ manual battery kit as a backup. It came with 2 batteries, 2 attys, usb charging dongle, wall adapter and five pre-filled carts - not a bad little kit for the money. Nice vapor once the atty is worked in and decent flavor - however compared to the tank, well, you can't compare - it's a different animal.. like comparing a motorcycle to a limousine, both get you to the destination but the voyage isn't the same. The 510 battery lasted me a little over an hour and a half, the carts are refillable and you can use a cartomizer on it as is or as a drip tip. Either way, I have a little shy of $100 invested in both systems combined and feel as though I'm prepared should a mishap befall one; I'll at least be able to make it a few days until I can drive up and replace whatever I need. As for juices - I really like Rob's USA-Mix but I add MintyChocolate to mine - however I just picked up his Black Tea and have been vaping it all night - Wow! It's got the flavor of darjeeling (floral, mild muscatel), a very light ceylon black (citrus) and just a tinge of something that reminds me of bergamot (think Earl Grey), so light it could just be in my imagination. Yeah, I used to own a coffee shop/ tea house, could ya tell? Anyway, I would recommend it but everyone has their own interpretation of flavors. Good luck though on the search - you'll find something that works, just give it time. :)

I definitely think the eGo-T is the product that best meets your requirements. The 510 is nice because it is about the same size as a cigarette, but the batteries just run down too fast for my liking. I still carry one around in case of emergencies, but the larger battery of the eGo just makes more sense. It is not much bigger than the 510, but it will last for several hours. The 650 mah is about the same length as the 510 battery, but the diameter is larger (slightly over a half inch).

I've only had my tank cartridges for a day, but so far I've been impressed. Using a syringe, they are the easiest to refill that I've found yet (except for filling the bottle on my REO). They also hold quite a bit of liquid so you won't have to mess with them too often.
