Thanks Laszlo. Actually, it is Kanthal I am using - I thought Nichrome was a generic name.

Quoted from eBay page from guy selling Kanthal wire:

"32 gauge Kanthal A-1 875 alloy-This alloy has a higher max temperature than nichrome wire"

That's why I thought these two are actually different materials. Nevermind, all is good.:vapor:

I remember your video from the first one, cant you post a short one of this version pretty please?
VWFringe - this mod is going though several revisions at the moment, so it's back in pieces - when (and if) it gets successfully completed, I'll try to make a video. My movie camera is pretty poor quality though.

Ok slopes guess who was bored today :)

I use some quick steel (it is certified safe by the NSF for repairing drinking water systems) a bic pen tube and 2 needles. This is what I came up with. It is 6mm in dia. Have not tested it, waiting for the cure time.

Added,
now I am really bored.. How about this...

it is a 510 XL clearo I pulled apart and inverted the ceramic cup and pushed the pins down through. Gives it a nice area to support the mesh.

Ok 1st test

That's great Dan! Welcome to the ***6mm club*** (of which I have been the only member :().

I see you have a few more winds of the nichrome on yours - perhaps I should try this too. I would be careful with the 'quick steel' - if it contains epoxy, it's probably not a good idea to have it so close to heat and juice... that's why I have been using ceramic (from a household fuse). In fact, on my latest rebuild I have replaced the fuse with cork. There's a very cheap supply of 6mm cork plugs used by carp fishers for floats and, when bored out, these make a great, safe and very lightweight holder for the wick and needles. These corks ease into a 6.3mm stainless steel tube very nicely. Here's my cork atty. As I mentioned before, the inside needle is placed right up against the wick. I've also run the wire right in there alongside it - threading it through the needle eye with the nichrome. I have placed the other needle in a fine groove scored along the outside of the cork... and secured it in place by winding some cotton thread around the whole thing.
