I assume my comments of perique. We are all new to this, smug pictures of popcorn add little to learnings. If you know of a pipe tobacco sold where the perique really shines in a net share it. Short of picking it out by hand and making a net out of that I find perques to be so subtle as to be hardly worth it when heat assisted extracted.
.

You actually made a couple of comments that people are probably going to have issues with. If you want straight, strong perique you can buy blending perique and use less oPG for soaking. You could also try chopping up the tobacco more. Louisiana Red is a good Va/Per blend to start with. The perique is downplayed some, but it is definitely there. Oh that's right, Virginia doesn't make good juice.

Also, what do you believe the people "in the business" have access to that we don't. I would love to hear this. Aren't you the same guy that said Diane must be using a $25,000 filtering set up? Johni's 2.6 micron gravity filtration is nearly as clear and clean.

Most of the Tier One vendors are heat extracting or cold extracting their own juices. Diane isn't using some super secret insider trick but she gets Perique to pop through just fine. Your bad results with Virginia and Perique do not indicate a secret trick, piece of equipment, or conspiracy.

I feel the same way about the thread. What did u get from DownEast? Has anybody tried their Wicked Good Tobacco? I really wanna try it. It's on my list of next things to buy. This thread has made me wanna get into DIY. Looks like I will be starting soon. Just so I have something to do while waiting for my first extractions. I have been saving post and pages with tobacoos I like the sound of to extract. I can't wait to get the stuff to Start.

I had ordered DEV's two tobacco sample packs, and their RY4 was thrown in as a free sample. I haven't started on Wicked Good Tobacco, Honey Cured, or Vanilla Tobacco yet, but vaped a lot of the rest.

I find DEV very hard to recommend because, well, for most here the tobacco side of the equation just isn't very good, and many find it quite foul. I think some of the flavorings they add are quite nice, but they've all become mostly tiring to me after a few sessions. Some are quite interesting, and a few are well-mixed, but nothing I'd want a bigger bottle of.

Not saying you shouldn't try them, they may really appeal to some, but I would highly suggest going small with a first order and keeping the expectations low.

I've had some bad ones H&H black Currrant Cavendish is sort of like cough medicine. In general I stick with non fruit blends and Virginias. Something about Virginia doesn't lend to good taste in ejuice. Cavendish may not be exotic but its king in my book. I wish I had the time to try Latika, and obtaining a real strong Perique seems difficult (its mixed down to the point that it is abscent in the final vape.) To DIY a Perique as far as I know you need to be in the business.

I really dig Black Cav!

Yeah, the smallest gizmo mandrel. That was with the XC-116, I put the mandrel inside it and wrapped on the wick. When I was setting it up before for rayon and cotton, I used a longish nail of about 1.6mm diameter.

RiP Trippers has a video review of the Veritas in which he builds it as a standard single, horizontal coil.

I've built it single vertical and dual vertical (a.k.a. the Faceless method). Both have worked well, but the technique required is undoubtedly a PITA to get right.

Single horizontal was next on my list. Whether RiP's on-screen persona grates on the nerves or not, the Veritas review/tutorial will help.

Edit: The horizontal build counters the massive air channel issue by sitting right across the entire opening.

Atta boy :D

In an unrelated note, set my Veritas up with a 1 ohm single vertical coil, and since it's a pain in the ... to wick, I decided to use a permanent wick; Nextel/XC-116/ReadyWick, or whatever it's being called these days. I was going for a dual but, well, things went awry, and I got a single. Man this thing is a pain in my .... to build. Loaded up some Blondie, Dagwood style, and it's vaping pretty good. Good enough to keep it as it is anyways.

I'm usually cautious, but as with MVJ, something about SmugJuice caught me right.

Truth be told, if I had the time I'd be into the DiY movement doing straight-up just-the-tobacco-please extracts. But time is my enemy so I continue searching for par exellence commercial offerings.

Vendor: River Bottom Fog Sauce
Liquid: Porch Rocker
Ratio: 60/40 PG/VG
Nic: 12 mg
Atty: KFL
Res/Build: Single Coil 1.3Ω (8 wraps of 28 gauge; 2.3 mm; rayon wick)
Mod: Provari @ 4.1v

Color: Honey

Vendor Description: Don't be sendin' me hate mail when you find yourself speakin' with a Southern drawl after enjoyin' this emmaculate blend of Burley, Virginia, Latakia, Flake, and Perique. You may well find yourself hankerin' some mighty fin pickin' and a singin' as you lazily rock the day away on the porch while slowly drawin' in this exceptional vape. This juice is the maker's tribute to the ol' Country Doctor pipe blend that was popular in the early 20th century. This remarkable blend is the cure-all for smoking nostalgia. All 5 tobaccos combine to provide that “Old Time” flavor.

Tobacco: Medium. A very nice blend where none of the tobaccos seem to take centre stage. I like the fact that the Latakia which tends to usually overpower most of the milder tobaccos is toned down to the point where this can't be classified as the typical Latakia heavy English blend. The Perique too which normally adds a funkiness to the vape is toned down enough that you experience it more in the "nose" on the exhale. The Virginia and Burley are good accompaniments to this blend.

My thoughts: Steeped 5 weeks, I'm quite liking this juice. While taste is subjective, I find this to be a very approachable vape and can see myself using it in a KFL where I can walk away for a long period of time, as opposed to in a dripper for a short session. The flavours while not in-your-face are complex enough to keep them interesting and the mouth feel of the vape is quite tasty to me. Overall, I'm enjoying this juice and would recommend it to somebody looking for a non-aggressive medium bodied tobacco juice.

Yep. I think I am going to drip this now after reading this review. It's time.

Thanks for that!

RiP is an odd duck lol, but I think he's a good guy. Not sure why he's still calling an 1/8 inch diameter coil a micro, but oh well. I definately want to try that horizontal MACRO coil build next. I'm just not digging the verticals, they don't seem to keep the wick at the coil as consistently saturated as horizontals, so I'm happy to see someone getting a successful vape with a horizontal in the Veritas. I really think that'll make it an atty I enjoy more. Wicking the vertical properly with rayon or cotton will be a lot easier with this build too.

I'll be doing it up like the video next, minus the added wick on top of the coil which I don't see a reason for.

Glad you dig Porch Rocker, Dusty! I would have been really surprised if you didn't like it, since you love SoGent.

SoGent sings to me, Jerms! PR is just talking to me right now. While I taste the similarities between the two, they are still different enough that I would not confuse them.

Perhaps once I get some gunk built up on the coil, they may taste more the same. :)

It's been a while before I got Porch since I've had SoGent, so never got to compare them personally. John did a good comparison of the two. Definately different juices, but same style of American blends with lighter Latakia. I think Porch will grow on you more after several sessions. It's a subtly complex straight up tobacco like SoGent, with the many leaves offering a tapestry of different flavor notes that reveal themselves over time.

Wow! No internet for a few days and days and I had a book to read to catch up!

Mike, I've extracted a few tobaccos that had already been done because I liked them a lot but most of the time I'm looking for something different and previously untested. Given the vast array of good tobacco blends available, it is easy to stay original.

Just so someone doesn't get the wrong idea, Perique exrtracts beautifully and easily in blends or alone. In addition, Virginia is a wonderful part of the flavor profile in many blends and it also translates very well when extracted.

Bill, loved the shot of your extract supply! Mine isn't quite as big but close and I enjoy it immensely.:D
