Question. My RBFS order is being delivered today and I was wondering what is the consensus on steep time for these. If different for different flavors, I ordered Porch Rocker, Admiral's Pipe, Petner's Pipe, and Pirate's Drunken Sweet Tooth. I'm not going to lie, I will be trying some of these right out of the mail but was wondering at what point they hit their stride. Thanks.

Steep time is a bit of a personal preference thing. Some folks like juices fresh, while others like theirs steeped. I got around to trying my RBFS stash at around the 3 month mark, and they were all good at that time.

I try most liquids when I get them and then once a week for the first couple months to see when I like the liquid best. RBFS liquids FOR ME, do not start to shine for three weeks. Like Dusty says "it's a personal thing." :thumb:

Bill, a while back I found an interesting Russ Oullette interview from 2010. He mentions Anniversary Kake about 3/4of the way through. Interview with Tobacco Blender Russ Ouellette | The #1 Source for Pipes and Pipe Tobacco Information

Cool! So there is a slight rum topping in Anniversary Kake. Turns out that Burley Kake is also topped subtly with cocoa, rum, and anise (I use Burley Kake as the base for my favorite DIY Custom RY4).

I wish Oulette would include the topped flavorings in his on-site descriptions of Hearth&Home blends. Maybe he does that only when the added topped flavorings are used liberally rather than sparingly, which is, I suppose, what qualifies them Aromatic rather than Non-Aromatic.

Bill, next time you do another anniversary kake extract try it fresh in maybe a Magma. It'll be interesting for me to know if you can detect the rum or if I'm just losing my marbles.

sand,

We're all losing our marbles---the only questions being how fast and how much---but I'll bet your sense of taste is holding up just fine.

Yeah, kinda figured that, just my impatient self wanting that taste nirvana right out of the mail. LOL. My only experience was with a couple well aged F&B and DWiT which were sent to me. Both were real good and the favors stood out nicely. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks. I do the same thing as I am impatient. I've noticed that some are good right out of the mail but get outstanding after steeping like EV and GeJ. Others like NET.com seem to be kinda bland right out of the mail and really need to steep for the flavors to shine. At least my limited amount of time spent with them seemed that way. Appreciate the reply.

Am I correct in remembering that there's a huge CWW following? I personally don't get it. It's dry, it's woody, hints of caramel.. yes. It's ai'ight at best. Something to go ga-ga over, nah!

What am I missing here?

I know what you're missing, broseph...your freaking taste buds! Probably damaged by years of vaping nasty NETs. :D

Seriously, how dare you dislike CWW? You should be ashamed of yourself!

One of the reasons I love NETs is because I couldn't find any good non-NET tobaccos. Turns out CWW is a non-NET (atleast in part, maybe!). So that explains it.. ;)

Quick pop in regarding allegations of cliqueish behavior here.

I can state for my entrance into the fold a little less than 2 years ago I never ever felt that way, and I am pretty touchy about that stuff AND was a brand new vaper so I definitely would have smelled it if that kind of garbage was cooking. Most of the regular contributors here now were here then. I never felt anything less than welcomed by this lot.

50% of the responsibility lies with the new poster. I would never presume to tell anyone else how to live their life, but I can tell you how i did it. I read the thread top to bottom over time...and at the very least searched for subjects that had already been discussed before asking about them. It just didn;t seem right for me to ask someone else to spend their valuable time helping me if I wasnt willing to spend my own time helping myself. I also chose to be respectful to thise who came before me, being very careful not to troll and trying to use the PM system for more sensitive subjects so that crap didn;t spill into this most excellent thread. Finally, as I have stated before, I did research on the posters here...checked their profiles, their recent posts, their thread subscriptions, their friends, etc. I wanted to get to know these people both to potentially make some friends and also so I had some basis for how to evaluate their opinions.

Anyways, any claims that there is some inside network here, let alone that it is not inclusive or that it is not welcoming...relative to my experience as a noob...could not be more wrong. I was green as they come and as pinionated as they come and I never felt anything less than welcome and "part of" from day 1.

I should also add, and this is just me, that I tried to give back in any way i could to those who so selflessly were giving to me.

^^^ what BJ said ^^^. I started lurking about 1 1/2 years ago. Started posting about 1 yr????? ago????? don't know for sure and don't really care  I don't express strong opinions since I probably don't know what I would be talking about. I have felt very welcome and value everyone's contribution. It has been enlightening to learn so much about actual tobaccos, the flavor, the nuances, the whole experience. Nothing like smoking a pack of Marlboro lights every two days (I had myself down pretty low when I found vaping and quit the cigs entirely immediately). Yes, the "core" group seems to remain largely the same, but they are also the most experienced, so I read, learn, and try to share what I have discovered.

That's all... :vapor:

Another great interview, Ray. I've been watching your YouTube channel a lot lately, so this is just a quick shout-out..and your intro music variety is really nice. :)

Likewise, I also watch and enjoy your reviews as well Ray.

However, just once, I want you to take a vape of one of those bad boys so I know what a vaping Ray looks like. :)

Yeah, I started reading this thread at the same time I started vaping, and always found everyone helpful and generous. Except Jerms. He's kind of a jerk.
