I have a 10ml bottle of MyVapeJuice Savage Cocoa Blend extract that Diane included free with an extract order of mine from back in January (thanks, Diane!). A month ago I mixed up a 15ml bottle of Savage Cocoa (using 25% extract, 22mg nic, 60/40 PG/VG base). I put away the bottle to steep and promptly forgot about it. Yesterday, while looking for another juice, I came across the bottle of DIY Savage Cocoa Blend, now nicely steeped.
So, I loaded up an EVOD and gave it a go. What a lovely juice! Smooth, mild BrightLeaf Virginia flue-cured tobacco that's definitely an NET, with just a tad of cocoa powder added. Not sweet, and not what I'd call "chocolatey," either. The hint of cocoa melds with the tobacco very harmoniously, making a single flavor.
The obvious comparison is to Ahlusion's Cocoa Blend, an NET juice made from Burley plus dark and light Virginias, and also what Ahlusion calls "aromatic Cocoa." I presume that means that the cocoa is added to the tobacco before the extraction process rather than after. The flavor profiles of the two juices are similar---each uses Virginia tobacco, and the cocoa is intentionally restrained, so the effect of the cocoa in both juices is subtle rather than obvious. In color, the Ahlusion Cocoa Blend is a deep caramel transparency, while my 25% DIY Savage Cocoa Blend is a darker brown.
Overall, I have to give the nod to Ahlusion Cocoa Blend. Ahlusion's NET is more complex and multi-dimensional, what with the Burley and two different Virginias. It also has more sparkle and bite, which I experience across the entire Ahlusion aromatic line. MyVapeJuice Savage Cocoa is simpler, and the tobacco is mostly bass and mid-range, without the sparkling treble of the Ahlusion NET. MVJ Savage Cocoa is smoother, though, and the cocoa, while subtle, comes through more noticeably.
When I want to be wowed, I'll reach for the Ahlusion. When I want a calmer, more laid-back vape, MVJ Savage Cocoa will provide that nicely.
