I just received the new Aspire Nautilus Mini with the new BVC coils. After all the hype and attention these new coils are getting, I was beyond eager to test it out for myself. My main set up for the past 6 weeks or so has been the Kanger Mega with a Cloupor DNA 30 mod. This set up was working great, although there has been a few issues with inconsistent heads and some leaking/gurgling.

With that said, I decided to give Aspire another chance (The original Nautilus w/ BDC coils was a complete letdown IMO). I opened up the Mini, checked to make sure the coil was snug as well as the other threads, filled it with juice and let it sit for 30 minutes. First hit was a floral, cottony, dry pull. Second was a bit better...third even more so. I started at 7 Watts which fed the coil 3.7 volts. I then decided to kick up the wattage a bit in .50 increments. I noticed right off the bat that there was minimal difference in the air hole settings. The largest one was only slightly more airy than the smallest. At this point, I knew something was up as I was familiar with the AFC from the original nautilus, and discovered that there was literally no way to lung inhale on this mini's largest air hole.

The higher wattage I climbed, the impending fear of a dry hit descended, until BAM - there it was. Now I slowly climbed the wattage ladder going from 7W to 14W over the course of 20 minutes. I am aware that a new coil needs breaking in and can't be pushed too far until its warmed up (at least in my past experience). Once I got to 14 watts, I took a large, slow drag and was hit with the WORST dry hit in my life. I looked at the mod and it said that the atomizer had shorted. Great.

I popped in the second coil, now severely disappointed and skeptical. Right off the bat, the airflow had completely changed and there was a definite contrast between air hole settings. I was already hopeful that I had just received a dud coil (but once again fearful that Aspire would lure me back in with a few good ones, only to leave me with a pile of duds like the BDCs). I was even more cautious this time around, staying around 11W or so on the 1.8 ohm coil. Flavor seemed better, vapor was more pronounced. I grabbed my Kanger Mega tank to compare. I noticed there to be more flavor and vapor with the mega tank. After a bit more time toking on each I started to once again get dry hits from the Nautilus Mini. My heart sank, and that's when I decided to write this post.

Disappointed? Yes. Discouraged? Not really. I should have stayed with what I know works (95% of the time) using the Kanger Mega. I hope that maybe its something I am doing. I have a bunch of Aspire Nautilus tanks headed my way as well as some BVC coils that may just be going up on the classies if I can't get this thing running the way its supposed to.

I apologize for being a Debbie Downer, and for this long winded post, but I am not convinced this tank and 'improved BVC' heads are game changing. Maybe I have a defective tank? Shoddy heads? I purchased from evape.us.com, and may be contacting them to see if they can offer a resolution.

Let's continue this chase to a perfect vape...!

It just sounds like they are not wicking properly. What juice are you using? If it's too VG heavy, the Nautilus and Mini both have a heck of a time with those. I mean, there's not much you can do wrong on a Nautilus beside when you clean it, issues can arise there. From just putting a new coil in a new tank? No. The only other thing I can recommend is doing between 10 and 20 priming hits. Set the airflow control on the smallest hole and pull on it 10 through 20 time without firing. This pulls the juice into the coils and allows it to wick properly. If that doesn't work, I don't know. I'm sorry.

Doing some more research, I am reading that these new BVC coils require a decent amount of priming (not dry pulls, but filling and setting down for awhile)..maybe more than I allowed. Some even added some drops of juice onto the top of the coil to help saturate the filler material. I was under the impression from many video reviews that these were fast wicking, with many reviewers loading up their tanks and almost immediately using them....arghh.

I've just taken unfired primer pulls, waited a couple of minutes, and hit it a few times until the flavor kicks in and vapor plumes. Really haven't had a problem. I've been using the BVC heads in my full sized Nautilus, and my wife is using the Mini... no problems at all... My wife is going on 3 weeks with the same head!

On that note, I'm very surprised, you're having an unpleasant experience with your BVC's. More often than not, people are having a wonderful vaping experience with them.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the responses everyone...

Quick Update: So after letting the tank sit for a bit, the Nautilus Mini's performance has improved tenfold. Everything seems to be working great...flavor, vapor etc are all on point and now I can see what the hype is about. Im excited again to get these new coils into some original sized Nautilus and finally be able to have my 5mL capacity when Im out and about! After this tank is through (doesn't take long as this thing is a juice hog!!) I will switch out the juice to see how the coil handles a new flavor.

Im hopeful once again, and I suppose it must have been something I was doing wrong (being impatient, not letting it prime correctly), and I believe theses coils may need a bit of breaking in, but if they perform this way consistently, I can live with that!

I just got and filled my new Nautilus original, installed the BDC's that came with it just to try it out even tho I have BVC' s too.

Big difference from the mini pro tank I was using. I think I stripped the heads on my coils with that little thing cause I cause cannot get anything to screw back in it when I tried changing them. Actually, that was the main reason I broke out the new Nautilus, he, he.

Played around with voltage and airflow, 'cause the wattage on my new just MVP won't adjust. It's stuck on 2.6. I found I had to lower the voltage to 4.5, open airflow all the way to not get a burnt taste even after it was primed good.

Other than some gurgling (anyone know how to fix that?), I'm happy with it after a couple of hours of using it.

Thanks to ECF for all the help I've gotten!

w00t.. glad to hear it rswift90!

Thanks X Barbarian! I now have the same juice in the Naut and a Kanger Mega....I must admit I prefer the airflow control more on the kanger in that it is more customizable to dial in that perfect draw...although I do not necessarily like how easy it is to adjust, where the Nautilus "Clicks" into place...

I still prefer the flavor from the new enclosed Kanger heads...and at almost half the price, I may just stick with them until Kanger tries playing catch up with Aspire and develops a BVC style head of their own. With that said, I should be receiving my Aspire BVC heads tomorrow as well as some Original Nautillus tanks. Ill do some more comparing at that point, but either way if I decide to sell them off, Im sure Ill have no problem as these things are crazy popular.

Thanks Xbarb

Problem solved. I think I was sucking TOO hard also. Taking a much smaller draw is doing the trick nicely producing plenty of flavor w the air hole on biggest setting - much different than my pro-mini in that respect.

I've got an AeroTank coming this week and we'll see how different it is to the Nautilus.

rock on my friends!

I have a rebuildable.. a Russian 91% ( like a Kayfun ) that I use for really yummy flavors.. but all in all.. I'm mostly using my Nautilus with BVC's now.. its plug n play easy... I use the big one.. the mini I can drain in like 2 hours.. and depending on the juice.. I go from 9 watts.. up to 15 watts for some.. for flavors..

I really believe vaping is a HIGHLY personal experience. each vaper has their own tastes. In the beginning, I was searching for the "one device" to be all..

what Ive found.. is I like many different devices. At work, out and about, I have a REO grand.. and the Vapor Shark rDNA 30 for 3 different tanks.. ( really is an awesome Mod for swapping tanks etc. Ill probably add a Provari mini down the road, but waiting to see when the 3.0 comes out ) the R91, the Big and mini Nautilus. At home, I also use a dripper tooo.. Tobh RDA on a mech mod (Brass Infinite Cartel clone )

It just sounds like they are not wicking properly. What juice are you using? If it's too VG heavy, the Nautilus and Mini both have a heck of a time with those.

^^^^^ And THIS is the problem for so many vapers now who vape high VG.

I went crazy 2 years ago when I started vaping, and which is why I had to just switch over to a bottom feeder and use cisco atties (this was a bit before RDAs came out, the ego twist had just hit the market when I started vaping so that gives you a timeline.)

the only atties, other than RDAs or over the counter ciscos that seem to do okay with High VG are re-wicking rebuilding the clearo atties yourself or using the above or joyetech type A atties. (I do the latter). I have a few that are still going after 4 months, and that was the same story with using Ciscos or Vapage hybrid atties on a bottom feeder (I had them going for 4-6 months).

Clearomizers with pre built coils.....kanger, etc. 1-5 days. They just can't do the high VG that well.

Anyway that is how I ended up on bottom feeder mods. :) (REO and Vapage Vmods, and bogger boxes when they were still making them )

I've tried for 2 years with stock clearo coils and have just never found satisfaction......well, actually that is not true, it's satisfying but only for the first 2 tanks, then you're pretty much fiddling around and fiddling around. May as well just get a rebuildable unless you are okay with using stock coils and tossing (they are cheap enough at $1 apiece or so to just toss). I like cartomizers too, and have always just tossed 'em after a few days. I did the boiling thing and they never will taste quite right after that. The fibers are too panked down.

Just an editorial here for high VGers.....get a bottom feeder with a bottom feeding RBA because otherwise it's going to be an constant uphill battle. :)

Reads like a marketing plug from Kanger. I have been running them on 4 different tanks for over 3 weeks. All of mine gave lasted a minimum 7 days without any issues.
May not be for you but Not a piece of junk.
