I just received the new Aspire Nautilus Mini with the new BVC coils. After all the hype and attention these new coils are getting, I was beyond eager to test it out for myself. My main set up for the past 6 weeks or so has been the Kanger Mega with a Cloupor DNA 30 mod. This set up was working great, although there has been a few issues with inconsistent heads and some leaking/gurgling.
With that said, I decided to give Aspire another chance (The original Nautilus w/ BDC coils was a complete letdown IMO). I opened up the Mini, checked to make sure the coil was snug as well as the other threads, filled it with juice and let it sit for 30 minutes. First hit was a floral, cottony, dry pull. Second was a bit better...third even more so. I started at 7 Watts which fed the coil 3.7 volts. I then decided to kick up the wattage a bit in .50 increments. I noticed right off the bat that there was minimal difference in the air hole settings. The largest one was only slightly more airy than the smallest. At this point, I knew something was up as I was familiar with the AFC from the original nautilus, and discovered that there was literally no way to lung inhale on this mini's largest air hole.
The higher wattage I climbed, the impending fear of a dry hit descended, until BAM - there it was. Now I slowly climbed the wattage ladder going from 7W to 14W over the course of 20 minutes. I am aware that a new coil needs breaking in and can't be pushed too far until its warmed up (at least in my past experience). Once I got to 14 watts, I took a large, slow drag and was hit with the WORST dry hit in my life. I looked at the mod and it said that the atomizer had shorted. Great.
I popped in the second coil, now severely disappointed and skeptical. Right off the bat, the airflow had completely changed and there was a definite contrast between air hole settings. I was already hopeful that I had just received a dud coil (but once again fearful that Aspire would lure me back in with a few good ones, only to leave me with a pile of duds like the BDCs). I was even more cautious this time around, staying around 11W or so on the 1.8 ohm coil. Flavor seemed better, vapor was more pronounced. I grabbed my Kanger Mega tank to compare. I noticed there to be more flavor and vapor with the mega tank. After a bit more time toking on each I started to once again get dry hits from the Nautilus Mini. My heart sank, and that's when I decided to write this post.
Disappointed? Yes. Discouraged? Not really. I should have stayed with what I know works (95% of the time) using the Kanger Mega. I hope that maybe its something I am doing. I have a bunch of Aspire Nautilus tanks headed my way as well as some BVC coils that may just be going up on the classies if I can't get this thing running the way its supposed to.
I apologize for being a Debbie Downer, and for this long winded post, but I am not convinced this tank and 'improved BVC' heads are game changing. Maybe I have a defective tank? Shoddy heads? I purchased from evape.us.com, and may be contacting them to see if they can offer a resolution.
Let's continue this chase to a perfect vape...!
