It is not Big tobacco nor Big Pharma. The major culprit is Sharfstein, the new Deputy Director of the FDA. He was appointed by Obama and is an ex staffer of Henry Waxmans"--a representative from California. The FDA is now after Cheerios for making claims Cheerios helps reduce cholesterol. Oats have been found to reduce cholesterol. The FDA says that advertising makes the cereal a drug under Federal Law!

According to Bill Godshall, Sharfstein is the major obstacle standing in our way.

I received confirmation emails from all the emails I have sent. No responses what so ever. I guess its time to vote these people out. And I'm stocking up so when they do ban it I have time to get my friend in Ohio to ship it to me.

I only got 8 confirmations, so I guess I triggered the spam filter for some of them. I'm glad to hear you plan on continuing to use these even if they get banned. I'm with you a hundred percent on that, and hope every other New Yorker who uses PVs is, too. :)

Remember, there is a billion dollar business cigarette industry, a billion dollar government cigarette tax industry and a billion dollar pharmaceutical cigarette stop smoking industry that this amazing device could easily wipe off the face of the earth within ten years.

These industry's will do everything in their power to demonize it, make it illegal and try to make sure this product never sees the light of day...8-o.

Emails are definitely not recommended. I keep reading that in many subforums, and I post it many times.

Emails are definitely not recommended. I keep reading that in many subforums, and I post it many times.

A couple of years ago I traveled to Richmond, VA several times to speak against legislation that was proposed on an issue that was important to me. I was assisting a gentleman that was a retired lobbyist. I learned quite a bit from this man. He highly encouraged emails.

He would call in to the aids of the legislators that were "working" with him.
The legislators' office staff kept track of the "for" and "against" as legislation was coming up for a vote. They track both phone calls and emails. He would call if he had sent an email detailing issues he wanted the senator/representative to see before they went into session. (Remember though he had cultivated a relationship with both the legislator and their aid.)

My whole point is that emails DO make a difference imho. Not so much the details of what you write but the side of the fence you are on. Public opinion may or may not sway the legislators vote but it is just another piece of the puzzle. Showing up and speaking with well thought out points will have a greater impact but most don't have the money or time to put in that kind of effort.

Mikes,it is still Sharfstein pushing this--he has even gone after Cheerios cereal to be listed as a drug since they advertise its cholesterol reducing properties--oatmeal is acknowledged to be effective for cholesterol reduction and Cheerios did a clinical study on their cereal--they found a 4 percent reduction after 6 weeks of eating the product--but that is not good enough for Sharfeins" FDA!

It's a sad time when nobody cares what laws are enacted because they will just find a "work around"....thats why so many laws are written, to close "workarounds". If people would just make sure good laws are written the first time, we wouldn't have this problem. Also a sad time when the truth doesn't win. The truth about E-cigs is, they are very effective towards quitting cigarettes, very effective! Plus, I run around for hours without my e-cig, I'm not addicted to it ....I can go for hours not even thinking about it....but I do like it. It was and still is the best device I have ever found to get me off smoking, simple as that. The FDA is doing me a disservice by not exposing e-cig for what it REALLY is or providing the proof that E-cig is the way to go! FDA is a liar and sold out to big business. They are not on my side, FDA would prefer I smoke.

These hypocritical, power-hungry, greedy politicians make me absolutely sick to my stomach to look at, much less hear talk about anything at all. 125 to 0. Up your as&es you fuc&&ng puppets. Sorry for the language. But, this stuff really ticks me off.

First it was the "fire safe cigarettes" (which are 10 times worse for you then regular cigarettes). Now they want to force you to smoke the more toxic cigarettes. Thanks a lot you puppets.

You know what? My eyes have been opened to one agency (FDA) that I thought supposed to be looking out for our best interests... makes me question the rest. Like the EPA for example, and where the hell are they and why aren't they cleaning up the gulf? It's BP's job to stop the flow, but the EPA should be all over the shores saving the birds and the marshes. Just saying....I'm disappointed.

That's what happened to me too.

I was so naive to the ways of politics until I got into electronic cigarettes.
I used to think a lot of these people against the government were tinfoil hat types.

What an eye-opening experience this has been.
Now I wear tinfoil as well.

The Senate Health Committee agenda for this week's meeting, again, did not include discussion of S7234.

Is that a good sign? Does it maybe mean that they're doing some actual research to educate themselves?

I would be so proud of them if they did that and got this right! :D

It is a good sign in that with so little time left in this year's legislative session, S7234 is looking unlikely to reach the full Senate for a vote, not having been considered and approved by the Health Committee yet. There might not even be any more Health Committee meetings this term - we've asked and the Chair's office couldn't say for sure.

But I fear you would be giving them way too much credit thinking the delay relates to research on their part. :p I think they're simply too busy fighting over the budget to pay attentiion to much else.

And I still haven't shaken my fear of that possibility I mentioned above in this thread quite a while ago, however small it may be, that Rosenthal can somehow shoehorn her passed Assembly version of the bill onto the full Senate floor for a vote at the last minute, bypassing the Senate Health Committee.
