If I was in NY you would see me protesting like no tomorrow. I feel the doom cloud over us all now.

My friend, Alot of us fellow NY'ers are doing as much as we can and will fight till the end. Please remember that there will be a very large black market on all E-cigs, liquids ect. If the bill is passed. One thing is to get a mod E-cig and stock up on atomizers. A solid mod will last a lifetime. That would be the only problem to me. They will neverRR be able to stop me~ PERIOD! Don't dwell on this too much and let the clouds blow over. There are many like me doing alot to help stop the nonsense.

... then why dont they ban anything with nicotine and anything that has an undetermined amount of carcinogens? this is just crazy. idiots.

I cannot comprehend how its ok to smoke cigarettes and not ecigs? drives me crazy. especially that one guy THAT SMOKES. F!Q#$@FQ@#$F they are all paid off!!!
for all i care, they could shoot anyone that sells this to minors on the spot. but let people that want to save their lives a chance for an alternative to expensive pills or patches.

I also think that it could very well just die, for this season, anyway. It's a diddly squat bill that no one but us cares THAT much about. And we made some noise.
I hope you're right.
I hope it dies like it has in other states.

Somehow I was, and am, afraid that New York is going to be different.

Evidently they can write any bill they want, that's why it's important for vapers and all their friends to vote this November. There are only 5 months left.

Now as far as carcinogens, there are some, so that was not perjury. The problem is that a smoker and wherever he/she lives emits more toxins than the 3 low level carcinogens in nicotine.

The bill only passed the house, not the senate yet, as I understand it. Why no one was there to argue I don't know, maybe the people who voted them to their jobs are getting what they wanted.

The people who wrote the bill and voted to pass it unanimously in the house, got their jobs by the New Yorkers who decided to vote for them. And in a few months, THIS NOVEMBER, New Yorkers will be permitted to vote once again!

Unfortunately, I dont think NY vapers make up a big enough demographic to vote someone out of office.

Good point.
This is precisely why I've been trying to encourage people to lend out their older batteries for 24 hours at a time, while they still work, to people who smoke. So many smokers either don't know about ecigs or are under the impression that when Kmart and Walmart sells them then they'll buy them. I used to be one of them, then a year passed, an it finally dawned on me to order online, but I happen to have both internet and a low limit credit card. Many smokers do not have broadband.

Not everyone has internet access, and even then, not everyone with internet has or is willing to order online by creditcard, and furthermore, most smokers are hugely and vastly not willing to order their sticks by mail. These are 15 minute habits, they go to the store, and in 15 minutes they're smoking reliable and dependable crap.

So it's urgent for New York vapers to help and show a smoker the wonders of vaping. If only 1% of NewYork smokers got help from a vaper this weekend, and actually tried one on loan, NewYork would have potentially close to 20,000 signatures by monday.

Suppliers need to open up stores also (imo), many of them are strictly online, so it would be easier for the government to eliminate them. If suddenly 40,000 walk-in vaping stores opened up in New York, then the business owners would have more at stake to protect, and the government would be less willing to suddenly shut down 40,000 walk-in stores. (This last paragraph is my opinion only; Virginia already has real stores and we don't have the problem New York has, but I'm interested in helping out as I can.)

I have to say that my letter likely won't be read, let alone listened to. Sarcasm has that effect on more than just everyday people. As to being a resident..... I've been there and bought cigarettes.

My letter,

To my Senator,

I am writing to express my support for the banning of electric cigarettes. Smoking is such a proven health hazard that we cannot allow any new tobacco based product not owned by the big tobacco corporations to gain a foothold. After all, due to the political muscle of companies like RJ Reynolds, we can't ban actual cigarettes. And while we can't save the half a million people who die from smoking related illness annually, we can absolutely halt the electric cigarette in its' tracks.

It makes sense. When we consider the host of other unenforceable laws passed, creating yet another underground market really is worth it. And, by banning e-cigarettes we will be able to divert resources away from the war on drugs. If we can find a couple of other things to ban, we could divert enough funds to address the proven alcohol and tobacco health disasters.

So, please, do it for the continuing profits of big tobacco. Do it so our kids will have a healthier alternative to buy from the local drug dealer. Do it because you can't afford to lose the tax revenue brought in by the current crop of tobacco smokers.

Signed,

A concerned citizen who actually quit a 25+ year pack-and-a-half daily habit in 24hours using the electric cigarette. Yeah I am still a nicotine addict, but I am not sucking in 599 additives that produce over 4000 chemicals when burned.

Have a great day. Like your friends in the House, I am sure you will do the right thing.

good job!....

It's apparent that the health risks are not the criteria used to judge whether or not something is allowed to be legal. Taxes, whether from constituents or large corporations, weigh greatly in the decision making process.

If safety and health were the basic tenets of law making, high fructose corn syrup would never have made it into my coca-cola can, not to mention the numerous products that used to have plain old (high priced) sugar in them. High fructose corn syrup has been tagged as one of the chief contributors to diabetes in America because it is already in the form that goes throughout the body and does not have to be broken down and converted like sugar. The key point is that it works and is CHEAP. Big business can get these things passed if they need to.

The laboratory analysis results of E-cigs that I have read state that the nicotine content is about 1/10th the amount absorbed from an analog cigarette. The nitrosamine traces that show up in E-vapor are about equal to that which is in nicotine gum, inhalers, and other stop smoking products, and are extremely low compared to tobacco products, which are legal, as is snuff, chewing tobacco, and other non combustible tobacco products.

The government uses the old line "Our kids could get hooked on nicotine" since there are chocolate, bubble gum, popcorn, and other fruit and aromatic flavors available. This argument doesn't hold water since E-cigs are illegal for minors to purchase, just as cigarettes are.

Joe Camel took down the tobacco industry in the name of children. I think that all of the nicotine based products should be regulated and the age for purchase set to disallow purchase by anyone under 21. It's true that the tobacco industry set out to get kids hooked. I got some of my first free cigarettes while in high school from a tobacco rep at a public function who gave my friend and I free packs of Newports, Salems, and free lighters at a ski show in Callaway Gardens.

There will be a big fight over E-cigs, but I fear that big tobacco has the cards in this one. If too many people switch, Uncle Sam will lose billions of dollars in dollar+ taxes on packs of tobacco cigarettes.

I'd like to see the AMA stand up for a realistic alternative to tobacco and fight for E-cigs to remain legal. I wouldn't mind testing to ensure that we have a safe product. That also will present a monetary issue since big bucks are made on nicotine delivery products by big Pharma. Those who have the lobbyist dollars could take E-cigs away from us.

good job!....
I like your letter, but I fear some staffer will just read the first sentence and put it in the"pro ban" column. I hope I am wrong and they will read the entire letter. Did you send it to your State Senator or to our U.S.Senators-- Senator Cornyn and Senator Hutchinson? To my knowledge,Texas has not attempted any ban or regulations yet--unless you know something I do not know. Please let me know.
