From what I found, burned glycerine creates Acrolein, which some claim causes cancer, but that is contested:

Considering the tiny amount of emissions from burnt propylene glycol (which I'm not even sure behaves EXACTLY the same way as ALL glycerines) that vapers MAY get, it's still probably 98% safer than smoking tobacco. As soon as people get that "burnt taste" they refill or change their atty.

Keep your atty wet and it shouldn't even be an issue.

Kristin --Intelicig did a full study of this and it was shown that atomizers using VG do not produce Acrolein at all.

Maybe I should have included that question in the survey, but I'd venture a guess that most people use prefilled carts and PG, though.

Kristin, acrolein may be produced as a by-product of the combustion of glycerin, yes, but propylene glycol is not glycerin. They are two different chemicals, and acrolein is not even a concern with regard to PG.

Kristen- RJ and Morris test marketed e-cigs about 10 years ago in test markets and let it go..Go to PBS for details. One was basically the same as the ones we vape now.

NOVA Online | Search for a Safe Cigarette | Anatomy of a Cigarette (nonFlash)

This is why it drives me crazy... they had no problem with their test marketing and selling it..IT's NOT ANYTHING NEW here

I actually had a pack of the original Eclipse smokeless cigs from RJ as part of the initial product test marketing. They used a carbon tip that you lit. As the carbon burned, the heat from that was pulled through the tobacco. They tasted like crap and no-one could stand in the room with them. They actually smelled just like farts.

"...tied the hands of BT." Give me a break....while I get your argument re: not realistically being able to produce a 'safer' cigarette' I was not Blaming them for that. I was and am blaming them for continuing to put specific chemicals into cigarettes with the specific and sole purpose of enhancing the addicitve quality of nicotine. That is unconscionable!!
Unless you started smoking 70 years ago and have not read any news about smoking cigarettes, it is nearly impossible to see how you could not know this information. You, me, and everyone on here made a conscious choice to continue smoking. I have just had it with the blame culture. If we do not take responsibility for the choices we make and continue to blame those choices that turn bad, we deserve everything we get for that. It is not BT's fault that we kept/keep smoking. It is our individual fault for not doing all we can to change the bad choices we make. Millions of people have quit smoking on their own. If you want to be one of those, you will make it happen. Personally, I cannot stand the "poor me" victim culture we now live in.

"......tied the hands of BT." Is that not portraying Big tobacco as a 'victim' ? But, You are right, I am 100% responsible for my choices regardless of whether I knew or not what was being done to the product
that's my mistake, you are correct. Thank you for that - I will try to re-adjust my anger towards a more effective outcome.

Regarding the Eclipse cigarettes. I remember seeing and trying them a few years ago. They weren't electric cigarettes. From what i remember about them (only tried a pack and maybe only had 2 or 3 of them), and reading the little info on the box. . . I think they tried to make it seem like you were almost "steaming" the tobacco. There was no ash and it didn't burn down. Inside the outer shell was where the burning/combustion happened (you still had to start it with a lighter), and it would heat up enough to lightly burn the tobacco/glycerin mix inside the tube.

I remember feeling sick on the first inhale. I think it still relied on the combustion of the tobacco even though it was in lesser amounts than traditional analogs.

*Edit*
After reading about the Accord cigarette as well. .

. . . I would suspect that even now, they're just trying to find a way to have tobacco physically present in, what they would call, their "e-cigs".

Well, of course they would!
They are, after all, the RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co., and the Phillip Morris Tobacco Co., and the Lorillard Tobacco Co., ad nauseum.
Anyway, the Nova site was downright hilarious. Thanks for the link.

I used to buy a pack of those eclipse cig's every now and then. They had somewhat of a bizarre after-taste to them.

You know, that's what I thought! I could have sworn that was the case, but couldn't find supporting documentation. Thanks!

No, I don't think BT is/was a victim. I simply think the facts are the facts. Had the greedy government, greedy people, and greedy culture we live in not been focused on lawsuits and money, it is possible that all could have worked together way back when to have create a safe/safer cigarette. But, then, we never do what is right: we do what is most profitable.

Kristin---This Study should be included in CASAA's library as there is no production of acrolein in our e-cigs. Also I do not know too many members here who use pre-filled carts? Most Members here use E-liquid ---Sun

See http://www.intellicig.com/images/pdf/ECOpureReport2009-04-14.pdf

I take exception Sun, I use pre-filled carts, as do many others I've seen post on here, and am totally satisfied with the pre-filled. Please don't kick me to the curb because I don't "drip" Just being facetious!

D103--I most certainly will kick you to the curb!!;)

Seriously though, Suppliers tell me pre-filled are a very small part of their business. Most switch over to e-liquid do to cost saving and flavor options and DIY.

Remember, Sun, there is a whole world out there of vapers & suppliers who have never logged onto ECF or any other forum. ;)
