I just called (almost) all of the senators (offices) on the Health Committee. The persons answering the phones were mostly very cordial and at least feigned interest. They were all definitely noting down the call and its content. I roughly used the CASAA form letter to help me focus my points; a number of them asked for anecdotal report re my own ecig experience, my age, my smoking background, and took note that I'm a hospice worker. If you have medical background, or family members who have also quit, or anything else that might add an ounce of authority or interest, you can ask them to send that along - no idea if they will or not.

I took pains to be as succinct, civil and articulate as I could be. One office did not answer (I can only do this after work), and I left messages on two answering machines.

Please note: if you are a New Yorker, remember to ask them to take your name, address and phone number. Many ask for that anyway.

What they are saying is that they are getting a good many emails, but few calls. Flood them with phone calls! It's not an unpleasant experience - a number of them were genuinely interested. though I ended up chatting with some of them, it took only about 30 min.

I also tried to email the Bc letter, but got a msg that duane@senate.state.ny.us;farley@senate.state.ny.us;fuschill@senate.state.ny.us;hannon@senate.state.ny.us;johnson@senate.state.ny.us;jdklein@senate.state.ny.us;kruger@senate.state.ny.us;larkin@senate.state.ny.us;little@senate.state.ny.us;montgome@senate.state.ny.us;saland@senate.state.ny.us;sampson@senate.state.ny.us;scousins@senate.state.ny.us;athompso@senate.state.ny.us;valesky@senate.state.ny.us;winner@senate.state.ny.us;cyoung@senate.state.ny.us is not a valid address.

If anyone else has had this problem, might we quickly fix it? This issue is spread over too many boards...

Also sharply revised my original letter and will snail mail to all HC members as soon as possible.

Thanks to everyone putting their shoulder to this wheel!

For us very busy folks, please keep putting any new addresses, etc., at the top of the main forum page.

Thanks for the above post Aubergine, and for making those calls! I second your request for people to not stop at emailing, and to make phone calls too.

As for the email problem you experienced, I'm wondering what email program and OS you were using? Most people have had success with the preformatted message, although some email programs want semi-colons, and some want commas, and so some people have had to adjust that. But the error message you got doesn't sound like that was your issue.

It appears that Klein is yet another politician under Big Tobacco and Big Pharms thumb. In 2008 he received 1000's in campaign contributions from Phillip Morris and Pfizer. Also while an assembly member in 1998 he received 16,725 from big tobacco. In 1996 he was also caught accepting gifts and meals from Phillip Morris. He is also a proponent of the PACT act. crashibrn, please do not do that now. There is nothing ,that I am aware of,going on in Texas at this time. Why wake a sleeping giant until it is time? We really don"t want them to begin the process right now--the fight is in New York now. Texas has other BIG problems right now--securing the border!
what i am saying is get our legislators to introduce a bill using the TRUTH as their basis. I'm all for a ban for minors. why not get it done. i fear that the ALA and others will eventually go to every state. forcing vapers to be reactive, instead of proactive.

i don't think Louisiana, Arizona, Arkansas or Oklahoma are any threat.:pervy:

I sent a 10-page fax to every member of the Health Committee. When the phone bill comes in, my husband is gonna be a tad miffed.

Nine of the pages consisted of a snapshot I took of the results of selected qustions from the CASAA survey Kristin is running. These were ones that addressed age, smoking history, methods used to quit, current tobacco use, flavors, health benefits, and likelihood of resuming smoking if the products are banned. I included a link to the complete survey results. The 10th page was the TSNA Chart http://www.casaa.org/files/TSNA_Chart(1).pdf

I told you guys that survey was going to come in handy! LOL! :D

CASAA just released a statement regarding New York. I urge everyone to pass it along. Tweet it, Facebook it, Blog it, send it to the New York Assembly & Senators, etc!!

Stopping 11 year olds from buying e cig, yet that 11 year old can buy drugs, and kill himself. Work on stopping the use of drugs, getting into our schools, and leave the e-cig. alone.

It's worse.
We're busy drugging our school children, labeling them ADHD/Disabled, putting them on highly addictive prescription drugs, and making them addicts for life. But oh, I forgot, - the school systems get Federal funds for every "Disabled" child they serve in their districts. Once again, the determination of whether something will be legal is whether or not the government can make money on it. :nah: We all know this is the driving force behind the e-cigarette bans.

One person commenting on my Letter from the ALA had the following to say:

Well next time someone comes collecting or I receive a request for donations in the mail or on the phone, I will not be donating.

Can we attend some of their events and pass out literature?
Their site has list of all events going on around the country.
In Your Community - American Lung Association

There is an event this weekend in Rochester.

Excellent job. :)

In the military right out of basic training they made us choose two charities to donate to that would come out of our paycheck every month.

I'm no longer serving, but many of the Marines I served with are still active. And the ones that had the ALA as one of the monthly charities have decided to switch to another.

I have been informed that Paws for a Cause will be the most likely switch for them.

This is NY, the most corrupt state of them all. And at 10 dollars a pack of cigarettes here, PM and RJR definately have there hands in it. They will allow the sale of cigarettes even with all the medical knowledge and facts surrounding they kill people but wont put a ban on them, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE. IT IS CALLED MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree that NY is especially corrupt with regard to cigarettes, but it's not the tobacco companies. They make exactly the same money from a pack whether they sell it in Missouri or in NY.

If you buy your cigarettes in Missouri, you pay: $1.01 per pack in federal taxes plus $0.17 in state taxes.

In NY you pay the same $1.01 plus $2.75 in state taxes and, if you are lucky enough to live in New York City, you can add $1.50 in city taxes.

They don't want us to quit, but it's not because they want to keep Philip Morris happy (you can bet that Big Tobacco is working overtime figuring out how to cash in on PVs.) They want to keep that tax money rolling in. And the fact that they get to posture about how they are keeping the good people of the city/state safe from the evil smokers who are busy blowing second-hand smoke in the faces of the defenseless babies of NY is an added bonus.

I read somewhere that Big Tobacco had considered making their own e-cig brand to circumvent the smoking ban, and to make more profits since e-cigs aren't taxable. Has anyone else heard about that?

I've heard several times here in Richmond, VA (home of Philip Morris), second and first hand that PM is indeed working on their own e-cigs. If that is the case and they announce it, I doubt there would be much of a chance to ban (or keep banned) e-cigs with the amount of $$ PM has to fight against it.

Big tobacco could help our cause in a big way, if that's the case...

Magically it will no longer be considered "dangerous" and get rush approval from the FDA.. lmao!
